I’m glad I found your page I was recently diagnosed with a 4.15% accenting aortic embolism. Actually, I just found out on Friday after CT scan. I had my first cardiologist appointment the week after Thanksgiving.🙏

The variability shown in Elefteriades' recent papers suggests to me that BSA correction implies an accuracy of predictabiliy that simply does not exist. Much work going on in this area.

Hello. My mother in law is 5'5" and weighs 144 lbs. She is 78 years old and just had an echocardiogram. It showed her ascending aorta size to b 4.6 cm. Is this of major concern or should we ok with the slow process it's taking for her to get in to see a cardiologist? Should also mention she had 3 small seizures in a row about 3 weeks ago which made her Echo get ordered.

7 1/2 years ago, a CT scan to find my calcium score (which was 0) showed a mildly dilated aortic root of 3.8cm and after adjusting for my height, weight and body mass, was told I am simply at the "outer limits of normal". This was confirm with a follow up CT scan one year later, this time with and without contrast and stable, not growing. I was told we can just follow with echo every 2,3 years. Just had a echo last week, and after 7 1/2 years, still stable at just 3.8cm and was told this probably is just normal for me and very unlikely I would ever need any surgery. Rest of echo, completely normal. Blood pressure is normal at 115/76. Lipid blood work is optimal. Do you agree?

I have a dilated ascending aorta measuring 4.0 cm, with no family history of this condition. Additionally, my aortic valve is trileaflet. Could you provide information on the average number of years it typically takes for a dilated ascending aorta to progress from 4.0 cm to 5.5 cm? Furthermore, are there any minimally invasive surgical options available for treating a dilated ascending aorta, rather than open-chest surgery?"

Does someone with an aaortic valve that is "normal" still have some form of risk of an aaortic complication? Or are only people with dialation at risk as well? Thank you for this video, have had a hard time sleeping after finding out yesterday of my 4.0cm dialation. Docors visit is over a week away.

Hello doctor. I am a 29 year old male. I am 180cm tall and 89kg. This year i was diagnosed with a dilated ascending aorta at 4.2 cm. At first my doctor told me its normal amd that its because of bodybuilding and heavy weights. I did not like the response i got and i went to another doctor. He did an echogram and told me that i had an biscupid aortic valve which for the moment works fine and that caused my dilation. He also recommended a ct scan. I did one which showed my ascended aorta at 4.16 cm with no calcifications and no sign of disection. The doctor told me to excercise reguraly(running, sqimming, cycling, walking and moderate lifting). I have 2 queations 1- is it considered aneurysm at 4.2? 2- is having sex dangerous because it can spike your blood pressure for a certain amount of time?

Is the aortic valve working normally? You can live a relatively normal life but you need long term followup with echo and ct

@@Thekeyholeheartclinic thwy told me for the moment it's fine. I just need a follow up every six months for now and if it stays the same i can do it every year after that. Is it ok to run, play football, sex, etc?

8.6cm aorta is extremely large and are at risk of rupture or dissection.

At what risk measurement is intervention recommended? I was at 46mm for much of my life. Just measured 52mm on an ultrasound, so got a CT scan ordered. Ascending and descending were normal, root was 46, 47, 49. My cardiologist suggested surgery; however, I am 79 inches tall and fall within “low risk”. I showed him this chart and he suggested it didn’t matter because the guideline for patients with Marfan is 5cm and I’m “close enough”.

If you have marfans and esp if you have a dysfunctional bicuspid valve then surgery at 4.5 is indicated

@@Thekeyholeheartclinic Dr. an add on: is Genetic testing the only way to know if one has Marfans, as they just found mine at 4.5 cm. Thank you.
