I had this operation a year and a half ago I am 39. The root ruptured and I was able to make it to the ER in time. Surgeon was able to keep the valve and replace the root. Thank for all the information.

Fantastic video thanks. I'm Atlanta based and 4.7 root anx and under CT surveillance. Searching internet now for centers doing the most valve sparing and hard to stratify. Clev is #1 in TAVR and surprisingly Piedmont Atlanta is #2 per Definitive HC. I search CPT code 33863 and still see Clev followed by Mayo, Mt Sinai. Emory only 10 total - I'm glad I watched this vid. Thx again

Guidelines for ARR go from 5.0 to 5.5 cm. Seems like if one is at 5 cm in order to not overly stress the leaflets, it would be wise to not wait until the root reaches 5.5?
@bgrant19744 ай бұрын
wandering this for myself. Exact same measurements...wait or go at 5? Don't want to damage the valve

Hi Tim, Really interesting question regarding aortic aneurysm repair/replacement. We would encourage you to discuss this with your medical team. If you have already done that, what did you learn?

My son had an asd repair at 12 and it was a large defect. He had to have open heart surgery. He had his yearly follow up this week. His aortic root has been dilated since the surgery but this year it has grown. He is at 4.4 now. He was 3.9. The doctor wants an MRI and said he doesn’t like to go a dilation of 4.6

Good idea to get this checked out by a medical team. What did you learn?

Thanks to everyone for posting this, and other, excellent videos about aortic surgeries. I am a 66yo WM, and I live in Seattle. I have a 5.0cm root aneurysm with AR/w eccentric jet (according to the MyChart notes). I suspect I´m going to need surgery at some point, and I´m wondering to myself if it might ge a good idea to go out of state to have it done, as I´m not sure my cardiologist is the right person to do it. (Nothing personal!) Does CC ever have patients from the West Coast?

Thank you Dr.Roselli and Kopravanac. You mentioned the possibility of this type of surgery with a leaky valve but would a bi-cuspid aortic valve fall under the same category if it is in not stenotic or degenerated?

Hi Dominick, Great and timely question! We just posted a new educational video about Bicuspid Aortic Valves and Valve Sparing Aortic Root Replacement with Dr. Eric Roselli of the Cleveland Clinic at this link - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWiumKeqeL2qaNE. We hope this new video helps you!

I’m 55 years old now on 2024 and I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve on 2008 now I have a root aneurysm of 5cm so do you think that ones I reach 5.5 and get the surgery will the doctor replace my valve again or not? Thanks

Hi Gumby, You raise a really great question. Unfortunately, as a patient advisory group, we are not trained or capable of providing specific medical advice. That said, we would strongly encourage you to discuss this question with your medical team. If you are not getting information that you are comfortable with then perhaps you should get a second opinion to validate and support next steps in the treatment process. We are sorry that we cannot be of more help to you.

Great question. Have you tried Brigham and Women's Hospital. There is a doctor by the name of Tommaso Hinna Deanesi that you may want to contact - physiciandirectory.brighamandwomens.org/details/16677/tommaso-hinna_danesi-cardiac_surgery-boston.

Sir, the operation process which is going on in this video, I have also had the same operation, so I want to know how old is the life of such a patient. i am taking blood thinner & BETA blocker and ecospring tablet. i also had mechanical valve.
@HeartValveSurgery2 жыл бұрын
@@rahul_9000 Hi, As discussed in the video, the hope and design of the valve-sparing procedure, as discussed by Dr. Roselli and Dr. Koprivanac, is that it could last for the patient's lifetime. However, as you probably already know, there is no certainty that this procedure (or any heart valve procedure) will last "forever". That said, please continue to see your cardiologist regularly to track the condition and functioning of your heart. We hope this helps!
