Those with the 5200 Wico joystick would have had more fun. It has a switch on the bottom that changes it to self centering. I've played Pacman for hours with that thing. But the Atari brand controller is terrible for Pacman. Non self centering is however needed for a small handfull of games like Missile Command and Breakout. But the same Wico stick got ya covered. The 5200 wico command control stick is the best joystick I've ever used in general actually. Its touch sensitive and requires less force than usual 2600 Wicos.. so never have to grip it hard in the hand that holds it, or easily sits on my knee. Analog helps in this way even for digital games. The stick doesnt have to be pushed the full direction to register.

Your video is just fine. I suggest that you read "Once Upon Atari" by Howard Scott Warshaw, for he tells about his creation of 3 of the most iconic games for the Atari 2600 and the home video game market crash of 1983/1984. However I have talked with him and I believe that it was the terribly awful cheap garbage that came from the third party publishers that really killed off the industry.

Wow...those girls were incredibly hot. Yeah, they don't make commercials like they used too anymore and it's a shame. I don't have much experience with the Atari 2600 nor 5200 or Hell, anything from the 1st and 2nd generation. I got my start in the 3rd with the Nes and Master System in 1986. The only Atari console I have ever owned was/is the Jaguar and I loved it. Especially being able to play a competent version of Doom in 1994 on a console. Even as a collector I do not have much experience with Atari's machines.

I’m confused as to how you’re going gaga over a hot woman and that jumpstarts singing about Atari.

It did NOT make sense for Atari to go into the Home PC market. That decision is what killed the company. If they would have concentrated on what they did best, video games, there is no telling what they could have accomplished. They should have discontinued the 2600 and focused solely on the 5200. I believe without the distraction of the home computer business lingering over them, the 5200 would have been a much better gaming focused console. Obviously this is only a small part of Atari's mistakes. Treating their developers like dogsh** was another major mistake. There was no video game crash is the US. That was just Atari and Colecovision's made up excuse to stop selling the cheaper consoles and try and get consumers to buy their much more expensive BS home computers. It failed miserably and so Nintendo came into the states a year or so later and showed them how it was done. By the time Atari realized that their home computer venture was a huge mistake, it was already too late. Video games is what made Atari huge, and discounting video games and focusing on computers is what caused them to fail.

What a splash the 5200 would have made if it came out in 1979 instead of morphing into an 8 bit computer line. I remember hearing Curt Vendel say they should have released the Atari 400 without the keyboard, so basically the 5200 as their updated console and released the Atari 800 as their computer product.
