Not a critique, but this new editing style is a little harder for me to follow, I actually enjoy the longer videos and like to see how each player proceeds throughout their turn. Maybe there is a healthy balance that can be struck, but I did feel like I was bombarded with jump cuts in this video. Love the effort to improve though!

Hi Pete, i just wanted to say, i liked your vids much more without those fancy skips and other reworking in the Videos. Your calm personality fits more in the older Videos. Neverthless, thanks for the content
@Alexand3ry

Personally I like the short games with no skips best... but I'd rather have a 30min video with skips than a 60min video without. The bits they skipped here look like totally skippable three-player skirmishing: I think in this case it was a good fit.

I also prefer no skips. I can skip myself if I want. There’s often value in the “boring” stalemates. Seeing how people position to survive and ultimately break them. You completely miss that if it’s skipped.
@markjust86

Agreed. I can see the value in fast forwarding but sometimes it happens exactly when I want to see something in particular that you might think is insignificant but to me it is important. I don't even play the game, I just watch it and try to predict people's behaviour.

Hi Pete! love your vids. I prefer the older style without the skips tho, for the following reasons. - The skips makes it more jarring, having armies suddenly move, making you scan around to see if you missed anything else. - The increased intensity that follows from previous point gives no time to think, and cuts down on the suspense as well: e.g will he move that kamchatka army or not and let you out of NA? - Old vids i could look away for 10-15sec knowing when the next turn would start, a constant flow of time means i could relate to vids in a more predictable manner. Now it's more intense and less relaxing to watch, too easy to miss something. It loses that real-time hangout vibe. Don't mistake my points for entitlement, thanks for the content nonetheless. ♥

Congrats on the sponsor, pumped to see you growing and getting more notoriety. Reading through other comments, we seem to be offering our unsolicited opinions on the new editing style. I've watched a lot of this channels videos and there is a reason I keep coming back. I prefer the "old" editing. I think big Pete is a cool thing at times, but the jumping and fast-forward were not enjoyable and really took from (my) the viewing experience. I tune in to watch you play Risk, to see the whole match and to hear your thoughts as you have them. If it is going slow, I have the option to fast forward or skip ahead here. I also wasn't a fan of the zoomed in portions, only because you have the red circles now, which I like that better. One of the main reasons I have stayed/watched so many videos is you have a really calming voice and the electric moments have this great build up and we are cheering right with you; that said, I am not a fan of the flashy cut edits to get loud or be over the top. Now let me be clear, the editing is done very well. Praises to whomever put in the effort (except the sound effect for fast forwarding - that is not fun lol) on editing, I just prefer the "older" stuff. I ranted, and I wasn't asked. Thank you for making such great content, excited for more.

Commenting before watching. I've watched 100s of your vids and recently started playing ranked FFA classic fixed because of you. A lot of the manoeuvring in grandmaster and tourney games goes over my head, but I began to understand good neighbour theory and the importance of not rushing to claim a bonus. Recently won my first ranked game. Half way to Intermediate and enjoying the adorable insanity of 6p games. Thank you for all you've done for the game and its players.

I like the direction of editing for sure. Always good to try new things. I also love the long versions, so a mixture could be nice. The crash zooms threw me off a little bit. I think it was just having you at a bunch of different sizes felt weird? Maybe have set sizing changes if you are going to do the zooms would fix that feeling. I like the time lapse parts and the sound there is a good volume. Even at x1.5 speed the edits still felt like watching a normal Pete video. Keep up the experimentations :D

Great work with experimenting on the "perfect"/ possibly best editing style for your videos. Appreciate the effort. Personally I like the videos without skipping parts/ time lapses more, because you can follow the thoughts of the players better and have a better look on the different kinds of playing RISK. Used on the right time those skips can be very reasonable. But that's just a subjective opinion at all. Keep going with that great work. Enjoyed it! One idea for future videos: Rewatch videos/ games of other RISK players/ KZbinrs and rate their strategies/ comment on their playing styles and decisions they make. Could also be some kind of meme, by doing it for 'bad' players. All the best for the "Old-Pete-Man" from good old Germany ;)

Wound up installing Risk today and playing my first online game. Did the tutorial and played a bot game to learn the controls, and then did a 3 human 1 AI game on Boston. Wound up split between West Roxbury and Charlestown/Downtown, and managed to convince the other two players to suicide into each other, and then cleaned them up before finishing off the AI. Would not have gone nearly as well without having watched your videos to learn general strategy. Still figuring out the settings (How do you get those player rankings displayed at the end of the game? Is there a way to reverse the mouse wheel scroll for troops? Is there a hotkey to skip through phases, cause the enter button doesn't shift me from draft to attack? Is there a way to filter games based on rankings, cause I don't want to be going up against GMs while I'm still learning.) but was a ton of fun and glad I hopped in.

Hi! I’m Soft Bubbles! 🎊 🎉 I’ve been a long time supporter of your channel for the simple reason that you make honest, entertaining and in deeper dialogue and thoughts type of videos. And Risk is a challenging game after all, so improving technique also never hurts. But to be honest, and I hope you appreciate my honesty, I don’t like the editing at all. I actually got a bit stressed from it. What also sets you apart from other content creators is the feeling of hanging out with a buddy, not watching a full on attention maxing edited production. I also have full respect of your economic and creative integrity, but todays sponsor doesn’t feel like a perfect match really. I would very much like to support you from buying for example merchandise, but this doesn’t really flow with me personally. I understand that you can’t make comments about your sponsor so don’t mind this. I wish you all the best and the reason I keep commenting and in this case give you my perspective of your video is because you actually try to reach out and wanting to hear your audience’s opinion. I love you for who you are and no matter in what direction your channel goes I’ll surely support you! ❤

I agree about the energy. I like the editing but I like the long form, unedited better, because it's more about hanging out. There's probably a middle ground. Maybe weekends can be more edited to draw in the people looking for the more traditional youtube entertainment and getting more views. I don't know.

@@drew1321 if we are taking 90+ minute videos down to 40 by use of FFW'ing I think that's worthwhile. There was a lot of zooming as others said and kind of weird skips I think are unnecessary unless it's how you condensed the video. I would rather see a 40 minute video without any of those edits if that's how long it took IRL. I can reasonably handle 30-45 minutes of Pete a day. When we got the 90+ minute counter going it becomes a lot less consumable right? That's an average length motion picture a day of one of many KZbinrs I watch. If some of these changes are how we condense an particularly long video cool, but it's not what I want to see on the regular, hopefully that makes sense. P.S he never told us what you built him, what are his PC specs?

this is my problem with risk, grandmaster losing to novice, intermediate... everything can be based on what others would play, not entirely from your own gameplay :< It makes it terrible cause you would needlessly play a game for a period of time, with a plan already made 30 minutes prior to you losing from a suicide

Super happy to see you get a sponsorship, but the editing in this vid was a bit much. Cuts in these videos are jarring. Fast forwarding through an opponent just rolling multiple territories is fine, and zooming in on your face when you react to something is great. But any time time was completely skipped, it made it obvious and pulled me out. Also there were too many fast forwards for that single 2-sec sound effect, but that's a nitpick. lol

I hate the new edit. It's hard to keep track of what is going on. I like to do my own skips and speed-ups!

What would you recommend? We ideally want to move this channel to high quality produced content and have his second channel be more just raw videos.

@@drew1321 I don't know. I'm not against high quality production or changes once in awhile. The animations and extras are fine. It's just the skipping and speeding make it too confusing to watch. That's my opinion anyway.

While I understand the reason behind the editing, it was definitely jarring to come across. Risk is a game full of action and patience, and I feel like you lose a bit of the essence of the game trying to edit for more action and have Pete's talking as secondary. I enjoy the ramble and vocal thinking Pete provides, getting insight into the strategy one goes through throughout the game. I was expecting a 32 min Risk game, not a longer game cut down. The editing for emphasis is very enjoyable, however.

I love your videos but I really don’t like the editing, I prefer to see all that’s going on and if I ever want to skip something I can still do it on my own and not be forced to.

Hey Pete, love the edits (South America?) but I'm not a fan of the scratchy skips, especially in the early game. Not sure if this is a new thing for the algorithm, but I'd rather have the 45-60min video with your dulcet tones.

Some of the skips make sense but some of the other edits seem a bit messy and pointless. Not sure it suits the style of the game and your content.

I think we'll cut out the skips all together and just go with fast forwarding.

@@drew1321 that should work, makes it a bit cleaner and clearer when it happens. I do like the zoom in onto the single territory for attacks but maybe save it for when big stacks smash each other and not for 3 on 1's. Great to see you guys trying new stuff.

love the enthusiasm but the editing is a bit much and breaks the continuity of the video. would rather watch a 50 min video that you can follow instead of seeing things move and not seeing the move. have loved your show for being the straight forward game. often less is more.
