Hey Pete, played my first game of risk ever in the KPO 2 today, and somehow won. Got lucky with spawn and bided my time, then had to learn how to sloppily speed attack during the game, but somehow pulled it off. Didn’t expect to have so much fun with it, and don’t think I ever would’ve made the jump to start playing the game if it wasn’t for the Kill Pete Open. Now I guess I have to actually learn how to play all the other game modes lol. Thanks for hosting such a fun and open tournament, and for being such an excellent ambassador for the game.

It seems bots don't find one stacks threatening and are less likely to hit them. I've started figuring this out after watching a lot of games from youtubers and testing it myself. If you build up close to bot stacks, they're likely to hit you even without 100% success chances.

they also tend to stack up against capitals and will choose not to make attacks with those stacks. So I think that's the reason why he didn't get broken by the bots.

Just had a really cool game on the meta settings: My spawn was the worst of bad dogshit ever and i had to cap in noob corner. It was a one point noob corner bc of blizzards (3 continents) and i capped behind the player that had his cap on the one point. I put all my troops behind his cap and when he set on 4 and didn‘t put enough troops on his cap i hit it (something like 45-18) and lost almost all troops (15 left on cap). No problem though as i knew i‘d now get 15 a turn and he doesn‘t have 3 cards. The game progressed and at the end it was 3 players left. One had the entire east and one had the entire west both getting like +25 and +35 a turn. The russia player at least had 3 times my troops and the spain player around double. I of course broke the strongest player multiple times but the spain player didn‘t help me at all and only took 1 country like 6-7 turns in a row. I was so annoyed by him as he just was playing for 2nd even though we could have killed the russia player if he had an IQ over 50. The russia player finally tried to cardblock me but i had a set so he wasn‘t successful and i continued to break him. Them OUT OF NOWHERE the spain player came back to action, set in and tried to kill me, but my one point was a bit too strong for him still so he just decided to completely f*** russia player in the ass. Then russia player set in and almost killed spain player. Then it was my turn, i set in and killed the spain player getting 3 cards and broke russia player. The russia player then quit even though he still had at least double my troops and i only had 2 cards advantage. I then won the game. The lesson: don‘t just quit just because your spawn is crappy, it can still turn out to be a win and many players quit easily if someone breaks one or two of their continent in midgame.

10:13 One of my weirdest wins was in a similar situation where I was hunkering in E Europe for most of the game surrounded by two bots who refused to attack my bonus at all! I sat it out long enough to be able to set in and chain some kills.

On people that disconnect: In another game I play, you’re allowed to disconnect without returning X number of games with no punishment. Once you hit that quota, you automatically lose every game you leave and don’t return to. Would love to see Risk implement something similar.

I like the way you play Europe advance capitals lately. But I kinda agree that it was a huge error to go for black in the end. Was their not a possibility that you could have gotten black on your side to fight red? insted of depleting both ur troops, coulda had black smash into red or have red deplete his troops on Black?

regarding BOT-outs.... I am pretty sure I see this most games. I create a game, 6 people join, and then I get the messages that at least one person (rarely do I not see this) did not start the game and will be replaced with a BOT. I find that quite annoying... if it happens one-off, ok, but happens so often!

Regarding why so many people quit the game so quickly: I don’t know for a fact, but my belief is that they don’t think their spawn is ‘good enough’, or their cap got hit immediately. We’ve all had our fair share of players leave the game immediately right after we steal their undefended cap on turn two, but most of the time this doesn’t even happen. People leave games while holding bonuses - why? Presumably because they don’t think they can win and therefore choose to bot out, in the hopes that the human players prioritize killing each other and giving the quitter second place (for not playing). Solution: give lowest placement to bot outs even if they were the last to die on the board. Legitimate disconnections and accidental game closings suck, but the abuse sucks waaaaaay more.

I have some very bad experience with bots in my games. So much so that if there is a single bit territory close to a continent I want to go for, I won't go for it until the bot has established a position elsewhere. In every game I have played, the bots put most of all of their troops on top of my positions in the first turn, especially if I have a bonus. In my last few zombies games, early on the zombies put 50% to 90% of their troops on my border every turn for the first 5 turns. At one point they got 40 troops, they had at least 50 territories, they put 35 troops on the 2 zombie territories on my border and killed 2 of my guard stacks. I have extremely bad luck with bots as it turns out.

In a normal progressive game what i do to prevent this is not stacking big next to a bot. Seems like bot often hit the most threatening territories. Sometimes i purposely remove a bot completely near my position at the beginning of the game so it can bother other players. Just to name a few strats. If in doubt, just cap stack and hit another real player when the time is right, or just remove the bot completely then when it has 3 cards.

Seems like people get bad options and just give up for a better board not even caring about rank. Also, those bots weren't breaking your bonus because they were stuck on your cap stack. Doesn't make sense but they like to hang around big numbers and add to their own.

Yes the fact that you don’t get disconnected is rare from a mobile player. I get disconnected where it won’t let me reconnect roughly 20% of games.

I would like to share my opinion regarding people leaving games. You dont know whats happening behind their screen in their life in that moment, maybe the player rage quit, maybe the house is on fire, maybe internet problems etc. Therefore i think reports or any kind of penalties are pointless.

I think the point of the question was to ask what your goal was with that attempted black kill. You saw both of his caps, a combined 116 capital troops, and you had only 145 to take both (if you had fortified into one you'd have had abt 180), so way short of a guarenteed kill. On top of that the sets were only on 80 so the odds of going positive were astronomically low. I think you decided to kill black, correct me if I'm wrong, because you figured that he wouldn't help you kill red so you'd have better chances of winning the game if you got stronger by killing black to have a chance in a 1v1. But given the odds on the positive kill, many viewers including me thought that keeping black alive in hopes that he would eventually turn against red wast the more sensible play

You can check by clicking their profile and it'll say sorry I'm offline or something like that. The only time the bot icon shows is if someone doesn't click the ready button pregame. It's dumb and leads to people not even realizing that it's a bot and just assumes they're a greedy/ new player

Funny enough I have had issues with it and I think it's both. Sure some are cheating I've definitely seen it but the larger group is that they just farm games over and over again until they find whatever cap they want. It's made me not want to play online risk anymore.

It‘s because most bots are programmed to be extremely defensive in my point of view. They know they can‘t take your cap but at the same time try to prevent you from breaking their continent by leaving big stacks near your cap. Also if you threaten them for example with a 5 that guards your continent and they have an 8 there they will most likely break you as they interpret that 5 as a threat, not a continent guard.

Here's my thought on the quitting. The bots still get points for placement correct? Join a game, quit after you pick the cap, then join another game, rinse and repeat until you reach master or better rank. Sure your W/L ratio is ass but who cares? You're a master now.

While I do not disagree that people starting a game and leaving either before or after their first turn is annoying, and there should be some type of "punishment". After watching a lot of your videos, I think you are making one very large assumption. The assumption is that everyone that is playing the game is 1. trying to win the game 2. Actually plans to stay the full game - people might take their phone out waiting for a friends. Friends show up -> no longer cares about game (or others playing it). They do not necessarily even know what they are doing hurts the games of others.
