Some Risk variants I would be okay with seeing are: * Secret Mission Risk. Each player gets assigned a random mission at the start. Completing your mission wins you the game. Missions range from controlling certain continents to wiping out a certain player. It's like Assassin with some wildcard options for missions. * Armageddon Risk. AFAIK originally a rule set published in a game review magazine back in the 90s. Instead of cashing in 3 cards for a set bonus, you can cash in 5 cards to be able to armageddon one of the territories on the cards. All troops are wiped out and the territory is no longer passable (think placable blizzards). This leads to cutting off players and isolating areas (who wants to turn Australia into an island?) And getting the board to quickly turn against you that way. * A percentage control for domination so it isn't always just 70%. * A simplified ruleset of Empire Risk. The Empire is a neutral player with more troops and teritory than other players. Each player may opt to make a single attack using the Empire on their turn. The Empire gains troops at the top of the round and tries to spread them evenly. Usually you start the game by giving the empire a continent before players place their troops. It would be kind of like zombies, but you have more direct control of the bot. * An official Assassin ruleset. Each player is assigned a player to hunt and defeat at the start of the game.

I agree on the 70% thing not being right for all maps. Some should be 80, 75 percent or whatever suits. A lot of the agreement for 70 is authoritative and confirmation biases.

A fun new game mode would be something like super progressive or progressive+, where starting at the 50, 60 or 100 trade, trades increase by 10 instead of 5. Not too much that it becomes super unbalanced, but definitely progresses the game faster than usual.

I dont think i have played a fixed game in a very long time, mainly because they have this annoying tendency to drag on forever, and when its 3 players left all you can do is wait, wait, wait, wait, wait and wait some more. I dont know how many of those games i've just noped right the fuck out of. I just dont need to win that much, i much prefer having 30 minutes then a single win.
