Russel Walker Not really. Tie the plastic rope to a higher quality rope, pull that through a pulley where you tie it to a weight. Keep adding weights until it breaks. You can also use a special clamp if you're not sure a knot will hold (although, a sheet bend should do fine).

Now that's a new form of recycling; instead of throwing our bottles into dumps, streets, rivers and the like, we should repurpose them into rope. This way we'd also cut down not only on the litter and pollution, but also how much plant material we normally use to make rope.

I know it's a bit late, but... I got a weird request: Paper Mache. I have my own recipe; 1/2 liter of water, 4 table spoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour, paper bond, make paste-soaked paper pulp with it and compress it. leave it to dry for several days or bake it to extract moisture. This thing is as strong OR stronger than wood. Don't trust me? Try it. Once dry this thing was able to withstand a machete blade to it. And if you add baking soda to it, it fireproofs it to a certain extent (it's already quite hard to set fire to, the baking soda makes it almost impossible). I did the tests by mystelf many years ago.
@EvilPlanetStudios7 жыл бұрын
Uhhh... I am not sure anymore. If 4 tbsp of sugar vs 2 tbsp of flour of vice-versa. It's been quite awhile, but trust me. This thing is quite strong if you did it right. Paper paste with the paper mache paste is quite strong. Oh, and I have worked with this material for around a decade and have a whole body of work online to prove it.

@nimrodquimbus9126 жыл бұрын
yes, PETG is great printing filament.
@frechjo6 жыл бұрын
3d printers adjust to different temperatures, and they can use different materials for filaments (the most common ones are PLA, ABS and Nylon, it depends on the model too). The biggest problem is that they're made for round filament, not for flat strips. I guess you could design a nozzle and feed system for that. Another problem would be getting strips of accurate width across all the length, or it will mess the feed rate. Another problem that might arise, is that the bottles are stretched, and they contract when heated. I think it should be doable with some effort, but it would probably be better to just recycle the bottles into filament first, using an extrusor.

I don't see why not. There might be a problem with friction of the fuses being wound causing them to actually light if you're winding actual fuses. That isn't that big of a deal, so unless there's something flammable nearby, I'd try it.

how about metal string using the same method to make plastic string, but with metal cans?
@lickytime96837 жыл бұрын
will probably cut hands when grabbed hard
@killerFreak997 жыл бұрын
The Rainbow Cheeseball Yes you could but metal isn't as flexible as plastic so it wouldn't work that great as string.
@TheRegulated7 жыл бұрын
it could maybe work. it would be alot like cable
@cole29997 жыл бұрын
You'd probably need to wrap the first rope you make in tape to eliminate any sharpness. After that it should be fine. And a metal rope of similar gauge (do you measure rope in gauge?) to what he made here would probably be stronger, but less flexible, and forcing it to flex might cause it to break more easily.

I did that for my AP Sculpture class in high school with the aluminum from Coke cans
@the10thbrown7 жыл бұрын
You should do a tensile tensile on each rope you made starting with just the bottle string.

I have an idea for a project you could make a hand gun made with wood which uses the home made cap gun powder which you made in the thunder cap video to shoot ammunition by the way i love your content they are amazing

Vedh Prashob that would be so cool

...so you are making very weak versions of guns we had 400 years ago? The only innovation you have is a quartz piezo sparker.

Try doing weight tests for the plastic string, the ropes, and previously made ones.

how much do you think that rope can hold?
@TheKingofRandom7 жыл бұрын
I think it could hold a lot. Hundreds and hundreds of pounds for sure. It might be fun to find a company that can test rope strength, and go through all the variations.

Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" make one long enough by attaching one an other by using the 3 stranded rope joint techique, if cannot be made long enough that is, then put some hooks on to it and pull a car with it... That will defenetelly proof how strong it can be i believe...

Yeah, you really need to test the strenght of this rope. You should be able to do it yourself by rigging up a heavy duty "fishing scale" together with some block and tackle and then just pull on the rope. Kind of what Beyond the Press do on some of their videos.

Hey Grant how about making a metal rope using the same method but with metal cans. Let's see if you can do a strength test of that rope and compare it to the others. Cheers 🍻
@stormyeffects47957 жыл бұрын
Can you please do strength tests on the different levels of 3 strands? I hope that makes sense.
@Missyshenanigan887 жыл бұрын
do a stress test on it!! I'd love to know it's tensile strength!

You and similar guys like you make most of us with 13 years of schooling and degrees later on- ashamed as to what contribution we have made to the world. Maybe the best we can do to honour your name is to take these ideas given free and made with lots of love, to craftsmen who can convert these to liberating modes of employment generation. Greetings from Srilanka- Keep smiling and guiding from the Great Beyond

Any ideas on how to overcome the length of the source string? I mean, every rope you make from the PET-string will be shorter than that string, and the string length is always limited to one bottle size. How would you connect new strings/ropes into one another to make a thick PET-rope really long? P.S. Thank you very much for bringing into life my longtime "shelf" idea :)
