Want to make sure you keep going. Just these short little things are so useful in tying everything together, the barrage we get from other teachers of inferior grace. You've tapped into an info sequence that other people just arent using. It's very calming. I think you have a career here...

Hi T'helah B., Shalom! I just found your channel and I must say you're a very good teacher. I'm enjoying your videos a lot. I have one question: I noticed that in the verb "לִשְׁפּוֹט", the daggesh is missing in the "pey" in the conjugated forms. Does that always happen in the pa'al present tense, or is this an exception? I know it's the case (though reversed) when the soft letter begins the root or the verb as in the case of "לִבְנוֹת". Thanks.
@decentchap9683
@decentchap9683 5 жыл бұрын
I got really confused with this too! Feh changes to Peh if it’s the second letter in the root but in לשפּוט after conjugation it’s לשפות . 🤷🏻‍♂️ Love the videos too btw!

I'm only just now seeing this comment 3 months later, for some reason YT had it flagged. It happens often where the pey in the infinitive becomes a fey in the present & past tense, but not in the future. For instance: LISHPOT = to judge Hu SHOFET = he judges Hu SHAFAT = he judged Hu YISHPOT = he will judge Another example: LIKPOTS = to jump לקפּוֹץ Ani KOFETSET = I jump קופצת Ani KAFATSTI = I jumped קפצתי Ani EKPOTS = I will jump אקפּוֹץ It doesn't just happen with Pey, but also with Bet, see the verb LILBOSH, meaning to wear, that Bet becomes a Vet in the past & present tense conjugations. It probably happens with Kaf too, it's just 1:30 am and I can't think of a verb off the top of my head right now :)

I know this is an old comment, but for those that still want to know, www.doitinhebrew.com is great. If you want to see the vowels, you need to pay a monthly fee, but it is very reasonable if you are a serious Hebrew student and if you want to be able to see the word or phrase with the pronunciation guide. I use it every day with my Hebrew studies. And you can turn the vowels on or off and the cursive as well, so for practicing cursive with no vowels, it is great and you know the vowels are only a click away if you need to see them. The audio file is good as well.
