Visit Portland, Oregon and it won't be long before you see the slogan, "Keep Portland Weird." In this video I take you to some of the places that give Portland it's weird credibility! Take a walk with me through the Peculiarium, let's stop for some Voodoo Doughnuts, we'll look at skeletons, oddities and curiosities at Paxton Gate, sit at a haunted table at Rimsky Korsakoffee House and lose our minds at a Lovecraft Bar inspired by the cosmic horror of HP Lovecraft!

As a fan of Lovecraft, when I heard of the bar, my mind was shouting: “I beseech you, Elder Ones! I shall willingly sell my sanity to The Godfather of Cosmic Horror!” Then I thought to myself: “I’m still stuck in the well, aren’t I?” *If you get the reference, I applaud you!

Learning about Lovecraft's feelings towards people like me (and others) doesn't allow me to get into him, but I can at least acknowledge that he's had a ton of influence.

I've lived in Portland since 2009 and I've never even heard of the Peculiarium, you come to visit and you just happen upon it? Whaaaat. Lol I HAVE to go when they open up again (as I'm assuming they're closed atm.) Also, when I the entryway to the lovecraft popped up on screen, damned if I didn't almost start crying! I miss it so much. 😭

Yes! Portlander here! You found some of our spookiest places, and a couple I didn’t hear about and will have to check out! Thank you for introducing them! For your next visit, I highly recommend Lone Fir cemetery which is gorgeous and full of Portland history (special mention to James Hawthorne’s and Asa Lovejoy’s graves). We also have a large amount of supposedly haunted locations like Mcmenamin’s Edgefield and the White Eagle saloon!

I live across the bridge from Portland, and being a transplant, I don’t actually know a lot of the local goth places. Being a suburban middle aged housewife, I don’t have anyone to ask. I knew about peculiarum , the love craft and Paxton gate (love) but not any of the others! Many thanks! If this pandemic ever ends, I’ve got some fun places to go! And if you’re ever back in the area, there’s a devil museum here in Vancouver wa I think you’d adore! And lone fir cemetery is lovely as well.

I used to live in Portland.....it started getting out of hand when it became a refuge for homeless teens. I remember you had to step over them if you walked downtown as they lined up outside the stores....I loved my little house with two fireplaces...I certainly miss hiking all over mt. hood and Portlands little speciality neighborhoods...I doubt that I would even recognize it now...

If you were at Universal Orlando I'm surprised you haven't been to or featured the Universal monster Cafe in the park! It's so cool and I highly recommend the Dracula/Frankenstein section of the restaurant!
