i have spent so much time in the early access Subautica, it felt so mysterios and otherworldly. i never thought about liminal space back then, but man is that a good word to use to describe it. so creepy. i also remember finding a human model in the middle of the old lava zone that scared me. felt so creepy.

I don't think the hellhole was removed so much as moved elsewhere. It's the precursor to the mountain pass that leads to the Lost River and the lava zones. Though I do think that even littered with reaper bones, the translucent life of the river and the destroyed precursor facility, the early access one retains a more eerie feeling - the same one the void has before the ghost leviathans were added - because you know you're not meant to be there.

@@Trainboi1983 Six, technically. Two from the lava zone, one of which leads to the cove tree and the other to the pit in the pass to the mountains, and four to surface or near-surface cave biomes - two to the blood kelp zones, one to the deep grand reef, and one to the border between the moutains and bulb zone. The lost river spans most of the crater in size, hence its own distinct internal biomes.

Looking at the lava castle in this build is insane. Like there is a giant cave rn next to it and massive bodies of water afterwards. Definitely more true to the original concept arts of the lava zone! Both work well but i prefer the old against the new because of the massive space. Anytime I watch earlier Subnautica videos and see things like the entrances to the lava zone being the hell hole as well as an opening in the Dunes, it makes me wonder what made the developers work on entrances there, and then scrap the ideas entirely and go with a different placement. Like, I'm glad we at least got the mountain corridor, but it still makes the Sea Dragons dragging Reapers into the lava zone make a lot less sense without the openings in front of the Aurora as well as the dunes. Like, yea, if you had gone those routes, you would have missed the Lost River. But also those would have also been a lot more of a dangerous route to get down there anyway

You also found the lava trenches. Haven't seen them since riot played this game.

I remember the first time when they added the reaper leviathan, I think many peoples remember this moment lol, and when they added the sea emperor, it was only spawnable with commands and he had no real AI, like he was there but not moving and not doing any noises. And I also want to say, the original size of the sea dragon was so much better I think.

when I downloaded some versions from 2016 from steamdb, where then Aurora had only a driveroom where we repair these leaks with a repair tool, do you remember or do you know that Aurora used to be like this, when I installed these versions I called up the Entity Gallery command by typing entgal, the Entity Gallery appeared, everything appeared and the game crashed and she shouts out these messages

I play a lot of horror games and nothing really scares me. Subnautica on the other hand, is not a horror game but it taps into my deep primal fear more than any other game. Subnautica terrified me. :(

It just really hits different :) Totally agree!
