This could work and it would be cool, but I think to prove that he isn't a bastard, Samwell Tarly will find a marriage transcription by a maester somewhere in the Citadel library that Rhaegar and Lyanna were married in front of a werewood tree in the Northern tradition. So then we will have proof of his parents and proof that he is the rightful heir, too.

I have a theory, Gendry got lost rowing his boat and found a cave that led him to the hot springs underneath Winterfell, the path he came from was caved in and he is stuck there, waiting for help. Lucky for him there was an abundant amount of fish for him to eat and wood to start a cooking fire with. Gendry has been keeping up a tough training regimen to prepare himself to face whoever finds him if they try to kill him. He is in peak physical condition and has become much wiser over the months he's been trapped there. The thought of Arya is what keeps him going on.

the theory that there is already a prepared tomb for jon by ned's instructions (revealing his true parentage) is plausible for the show.. there's this scene (can't remember what season/episode) when lady catelyn was talking w/ talisa (rob's wife) while weaving an emblem of the seven gods.. telling her that she believes in the power of gods to save life because she'd done the same before for jon as a child when he was sick & maester luwin pronounced that the boy would not make it thru the night... bec of jealousy she'd been praying to be rid of jon prior to his sickness & felt guilty so she watched over him thru the night while weaving the emblem then come morning jon was already well. maybe ned also believed jon wouldn't pull through that time so he made those preparations. I cant remember if the books had talked about that part of jon's childhood though.

Tyrion mentions in season two that stonemasons typically can't read - "He was a well-read stonemason? Can't say I've ever met a literate stonemason!" Which could mean that the mason that Ned employ to engrave the tomb doesn't know what hes engraving.
@Zyme868 жыл бұрын
And the one who carved it would never known what it wrote: Tywen to Arya: I've never met a literate mason.
@Tugela608 жыл бұрын
Masons who inscribe stone are literate. They have to be to avoid making mistakes. Most masons just dress stone however, and you dont need to be literate for that.
@phteve19008 жыл бұрын
I think most of us assumed Ned made it since even noblemen of Winterfell were studied in metallurgy and some smithing. Not as aristocratically as,say the Lannisters.
@Tugela608 жыл бұрын
I think a tomb is improbable. For a start, the prepared tombs were just cavities, they had no inscriptions. Secondly, while not many people went down to the crypts, some would have (the children played down there for example), and there would have been a risk that the truth would come out. Lastly, the suggestion that it was deeper down, covered by a cavein does not make sense. If no one knew it was there, and it was that well hidden, then it would never be used. It would make far more sense for it simply to say Jon Snow.

+729Drew Bastard surnames are dependent on the region a child was born in, i.e. where the mother is from, not where the father is from. For example, a noble lord from the Stormlands could father one bastard child in the Vale, and another in the Riverlands, but neither would use the surname "Storm": the first bastard would use the surname "Stone", and the second would use the surname "Rivers."

It would be cool for Jon to discover his parentage that way, but I have two problems with it. 1st, for that to be the case, Ned Stark would have had to risk blowing his big secret, by engraving the names of Jon's true parents on his tomb. Why would he go to such lengths to protect Jon's identity, and risk it on someone stumbling upon it by wandering deep into the crypts? 2nd, it would make Bran's discovery, meaningless. I'm pretty sure Bran will tell Jon, or perhaps show him somehow if he has the power to do that.
@brightroar61478 жыл бұрын

Yeah, it would be a cold way to discover your true parents from names on a crypt. Poor Jon would be shocked and with no chance to ask questions. I hope Bran tells him, especially since Jon often wondered about his mother. This way, Bran can explain how much his mother cared for him and maybe include that he was actually a cherished child, enough so that she exacts a vow of protection from her bother Ned.

I have the stupidest ideas. I keep imagining that Bran uses his wharging powers to travel to the past, and inadvertently, he whargs into a dragon egg (within which, in my mind's eye, a four legged dragon, with a head similar to a wolf - a mutant). He spends a lifetime within that dragon and forms a bond with a young girl called Adara (see what I did there?) just in time to fight the White Walkers for the first time. They are victorious, Adara founds the Stark line and Bran finds a way to wharg out of the dragon. Of course, he decided to put the dragon into hibernation for future use, and Winterfell is built on top of him. He whargs back into himself, having aged without having aged (I know, time travel is confusing) and he rejoins Jon and gets his dragon back out of the ground to face the Night's King. Can anyone top that?

so grrm has always said he disapproves of the classic good vs evil and stuff which is y every battle basically isn't just that they have political aspects, my theory is that because the others have like lives and culture they arent just ice zombies those are the soldiers of them the wights, i also believe the land of always winter is just the other side of the world, i think esos and westeros are connected and thats the very far right thats the grey waste connects to the land of always winter and that side of the world is just the other side of the world and each side is just opposites of each other, my theory though is that when winter has come which it has, thats the world just turning its polarity around and the cold side of the world just gets put in the sun and everything in the white walkers world starts melting and being destroyed so when winter comes they are just trying to stay alive cause they cant live in harmony with the men it just doesnt work, so i think cersei will be killed by jaime and then the baratheons and the lannisters are all gone now so all thats left is the starks and the targs for the throne and then once that is situated bran comes back after finding out that the others have a language and a culture and just frozen life sam will learn about the sun and grey waste and those two will come together form a plan to create some sort of agreement with them then they have bran go to them and try to figure everything out, so then bran advises the king or queen and that is what the battle for the dawn is, both sides of life trying to maintain that way of life without everything going to shit, my idea is that the battle for the dawn is just a metaphor for the sides of the spectrum just trying to survive in atleast harmony with each other but greed and fear lead to an actual fight which just leaves everybody dead.

Ned Stark carries a secret for 14 years despite being racked with guilt without so much as a murmur to ease the trepidation and hostility of his wife while at the same time decides to make a full declaration of this same information by engraving it ---(presumably himself unless he felt comfortable with the notion "Howland Reed, me, and my trusty stonemason--- but that's as far as it goes." )--- into a block of stone which he then proceeded to place in an odd corner well within the exploratory purview of a household of five children and indiscriminately accessible to the point that Jon Snow is able to just stumble across it on aimless walkabout through the crypts. Genius.
@abbesatty94988 жыл бұрын
+Zeit Geistician Even though he could have used stone mason, I doubt it will be clear and easy to uncover engraving, that even stone mason could not figure it himself without using other hints. maybe these hints are plotted in a way only Jon can figure out.

*My guess is that Lightbringer will be down there in the crypts (or he'll find some passage to the furnace of the world that is underneath Wintefell, and turn Longclaw into Lightbringer in its fires).* *1) Why would Lightbringer (or the source to create it) be under Winterfell?* Could it be that the Last Hero, the legendary First Men hero who defeated the Others, was the same person as Azor Ahai? Could it be that it was the furnace of the world under Winterfell was the fire where his sword was created? Could it be that Winterfell is named such because it is where the winter (the Long Night) fell/ended - where the Last Hero defeated the Others and drove them back to the Land of Always Winter? Is it possible that the Last Hero was Bran the Builder (or perhaps one of his ancestors; be that his father, or grandfather, or a more distant ancestor). The words of House Stark are "Winter is coming" - it is a warning that the Starks have passed on to each generation intended as a reminder that the Others were not defeated completely, but only driven back to the Lands of Always Winter, warning of another Long Night in the future. If Bran, the founder of House Stark, was the Last Hero who drove back the Others, it would make sense that he would pass on the warning to the future; and that he'd build the wall as a defence against them for when they return. It could be that he stored the sword (Lightbringer) in the crypts, or in furnace of the world, underneath Winterfell. *2) I would argue Jon is having dreams to go into the crypts and deep under Winterfell (to find/create Lightbringer) because he is the real Azor Ahai reborn/Prince that was Promised.* _According to the prophecy, as recounted by Melisandre, these are the indicators of the coming of Azor Ahai:_ *-* After a long summer, when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world *-* He shall be born again amidst smoke and salt *-* He shall wake dragons out of stone *-* He shall draw from the fire a burning sword, Lightbringer _If Azor Ahai is the same as the prince that was promised:_ *-* His is the song of ice and fire (according to Rhaegar) *-* He is born of the line of Aerys II and Rhaella (according to the woods witch) *-* He will triumph over darkness will bring a summer that will never end *-* Death itself will bend its knee. _Now, think about this:_ *-* Jon's father is Rhaegar. Jon satisfies that prerequisite as he would be the grandson of Aerys and Rhaella, and thus come from their line. *-* The phrase "song of ice and fire" could relate to the Pact of Ice and Fire. It was an agreement made between Prince Jacaerys Velaryon and Lord Cregan Stark during the Dance of the Dragons civil war, that a royal princess should marry into House Stark in exchange for their support of the blacks, but it was never fulfilled. Therefore, the "song of ice and fire" could be relating to the union of House Stark and House Targaryen. Given that Jon's father was Rhaegar Targaryen, and his mother was Lyanna Stark, Jon is the embodiment of the union between the two houses, and thus fulfils this prerequisite. *-* In the books, Jon's wounds smoke while Bowen Marsh cries (tears = salt), providing the prophecised smoke and salt; and Ser Patrek's bloody, star laden heraldry is in the air above which explains the bleeding star (also in the TV show adaptation, who's showrunners' know from GRRM himself who Azor Ahai is, revealed in Season 6 Episode 10, not only that R+L=J is confirmed but also that Jon was born under a bleeding star. You see, Ned enters the Tower with a bloodied Dawn, the ancestral sword of House Dayne which was forged from a fallen star, therefore ensuring that in accordance with the prophecy Jon was born "when stars bleed"). Furthermore, obviously we know it is the end of a long summer (it is asked of the younger characters if they even remember the last winter, implying this summer has been a long one); we also know that the "cold breath of darkness" is the forthcoming winter/"Second Long Night". This all satisfies these parts of the prophecy. *-* Jon Snow has a dream where he fights the Others with a red sword burning in his hand. This foreshadows Jon retrieving Lightbringer. This is why I believe he will find/recreate Lightbringer. satisfying that prerequisite. Also of note, Jon chose his duty to the Night's Watch over his love for Ygritte. He indirectly caused her death by warning Castle Black of the incoming wildling raid. Similar to Azor Ahai sacrificing Nissa Nissa to complete Lightbringer. *-* Jon Snow is resurrected from the dead - death bent its knee. This fulfils this part of the prophecy. *-* Obviously, by defeating the Others once and for all, Azor Ahai reborn/the Prince that was Promised will usher in an age of eternal summer. He will finish what the Last Hero started when he drove the Others back. Given the potential link between House Stark and the Last Hero I discussed earlier, it makes sense for it to be Jon to head the age-old Stark warning that "Winter is coming", and to win the next Battle for the Dawn. _Further evidence is that:_ When Melisandre looks into her fires for Azor Ahai, she sees only things to do with Jon or snow, which he thinks must just be ash but she sees a possible connection to Jon. _However:_ Admittedly, there is a flaw in this theory regarding the "He shall wake dragons out of stone". We know that Daenerys is the one who hatched the dragons from petrified ("stone") dragon eggs. However, it is suggested that the dragon Vermax left a clutch of eggs somewhere in the depths of Winterfell’s crypts. These eggs could also be down there, and Jon might hatch one/some to fulfil this prerequisite; and thus also discover that he has the Dragon Blood. Additionally, there could also already be dragons down there, or these eggs may have already hatched and these dragons could be living in the furnace of the world beneath Wintefell just as the dragons did in the Fourteen Flames of Valyria, and Jon could tame one. However, perhaps this part of the prophecy is misinterpreted (there are afterall different versions). Perhaps actually it is one of the other heads of the dragon (eg. Daenerys) who is supposed to hatch the dragons, as the heads of the dragon are supposed to show the Prince the the path. Jon could then tame and ride Rhaegal, perhaps?

Well you're certainly right about the show's gaping disregard for logical consistency. But clearly if Ned didn't even tell his wife and yet Howland informed his children then he's a pretty crap friend because children are not normally considered reliable actors when it comes to sensitive information. However in my mind, if it were to prove true that Meera does know -- it might be Jojen who could have told Meera without Howland wittingly being involved although I wouldn't know the limitations of Jojen's abilities to acquire that info.

I could see Bran telling Jon of his lineage, once he meets up with him at Winter fell. However, I could see how Jon would deny this claim, as simply a vision of Bran. With that said, I think Bran would have to have another vision showing the already marked grave and use this as the, "you don't believe me, look in the crypts." This is where Jon could have his nightmare, it clouding his mind, preventing him from sleep and gaining the courage to make his way to the crypts. Yet, these two items would still not be sufficient enough to merit Jon's authentic lineage. This is where Sam comes into play, being at the Citadel and having access to birthing and other rare records, which could potentially provide the authentication of his parentage and birth right.

I say Lightbringer is in the crypts. After all, the Starks are an ancient house, used to be Kings of Winter (before they were known as Kings of the North), and it was Bran the Builder - the founder of House Stark - that built both the Wall and Winterfell at the end of the Long Night after the last hero (Azor Ahai) fought off the White Walkers. Since the crypts are said to hold every Stark that ever lived (other than ones slain elsewhere whose bodies were never recovered), it's reasonable that Bran's tomb is in there somewhere, too, in the oldest part of the crypts. It's also reasonable to say if Bran wasn't Azor Ahai, himself, that he was at least well-acquainted with Azor Ahai and quite possibly came into the possession of Lightbringer. Since all Starks are buried with their sword laid across their statue, it would be pretty safe to assume Lightbringer, the sword Bran the Builder wielded at the time of his death, would lay at Bran's tomb. Note: It's also possible Bran buried Azor Ahai within the crypts as an honorary Stark. After all, when House Stark was brand new, they wouldn't be quite so caught up in tradition, seeing as there hadn't been any traditions to set. So, Lightbringer could actually be at the tomb of Azor Ahai, rather than Bran's. Either way, it's in the crypts.

Remember in Season 1, just before they parted ways at the fork in the road, Jon asked Ned one last time about his mother. Ned said that when next they meet, he would tell Jon all about her. Now that Jon has control of Winterfell again, Ned, who's bones are not in the crypt, will have his spirit free to call Jon down to the crypts through his dreams. That is when Jon will learn of who his mother was. Sam, meanwhile, will find proof of Jon's legitimacy in the Library. Since Targaryens took multiple wives often, it wouldn't be out of place for Rhaegar to have done so as well. And then the third piece will come from Bran, who will give Jon his true name. Jeherys Targaryen II.

This is a great theory! You do incredible work with your videos. Please keep doing them. All the revelations might be required to convince the major players in Westeros that Jon is Targaryen. They might even be needed to convince Jon himself. Bran revealing it, this crypt theory, and Sam finding the birth record would be sufficient to convince all. Problem is the show doesn't have enough time to delve into such a gradual realization of Jon's parentage.

I just realized something, something that could prove Lyanna married Rhaegar without documents or flashbacks. Assuming Lyanna married Rhaegar, she would've had a wedding ring. Names of the spouse are typically engraved in wedding rings, not to mention, Rhaegar seems like the romantic type that would do that. If that's the case, Ned would've had his sister's wedding ring and took it with him to Winterfell. He'd have hidden it away in his personal chambers. We *do* know Jon is moving into Ned's bedroom. We also know Jon is bound to check out the crypt to pay his respects to his recently dead brother, Rickon. So either Jon finds this wedding ring at the crypt (with Lyanna) or at Ned's bed chambers. He'd realize Lyanna married a Targaryen. Then when Bran checks in with Jon, telling him Lyanna was his mother, Jon would realize his father was Rhaegar.

Would love the dragon theory to be true, but since they have never mentioned it in the T.V. series I doubt they will start now since they are close to the end of the series. Wouldn't mind if Jon finds out his true blood line down there by a combination of things like Howland Reed, Bran Stark, and the crypt.

Honestly I just assumed we'd get to see fireproof Jon at some point. If he finds a crypt, or even if Bran tells him, the story doesn't go anywhere. He's not going to pursue the throne. The revelation is probably going to hold more significance to other people, he just wants to know. So it seems more likely that he crosses paths with . . . Daenerys or some other major player and then they react to it with/for him.

Not sure I can buy into Jon finding out on his own. It would defeat the purpose of building up to Bran witnessing the TOJ, though I could envisage Howland Reed getting word of what had happened re JS being named KITN, and making his way to Winterfell to offer fealty and finally give him the information himself, either to be reaffirmed by Bran or visa versa.

I would love for it to play out as follows: Jon and Sansa at odds. bran not able to get to Jon quick enough to prevent a possible betrayal by Sansa. Bran starts sending Jon message dreams telling him to go to the crypts, Jon is fearful, but shares with Tormund and Davos after several sleeping and waking dreams. Jon reveals he's feared the crypts since childhood (with a nervous chuckle). Things get really tense with Sansa, fearing for Jon; and Bran's dreams coming more frequently, fast-furious, Jon goes to the crypts with his mates at his side. Jon FINALLY goes down, gets the truth, glimmer of the Targaryian eye color in his eye... cut to Bran reaching the Winterfell gates as Sansa struggles with whether or not to betray Jon for Littlefinger. Littlefinger now thinks he can enact another plan using Bran and keep his original plan secret. Bran seeks out Jon, pissing Sansa off making her feel slighted again. As Jon emerges from the crpyts, Bran and Sansa spot him, Davos, and Tormund... Littlefinger not far behind, talks of the True Lord of Winterfell- spots Jon. Jon and Bran share a knowing look, Bran greets him: You are the True heir. Everyone thinks bran is talking about Winterfell until everyone notices, and the camera zooms in on Jon's eyes. credits roll.

The Dragon awaiting in the crypts is metaphorical for discovery of Jon's heritage. He is discovering his true heritage as a targaryen as soon as he walks down there and then metaphorically turns from Wolf (Stark) to dragon (targaryen). I think the one who leads him there will be Howland Reed, who is going to join Jon's allies in Winterfell.

I really want to believe this theory because it'd make for a great scene, but wouldn't Ned have wanted to put Jon's real name on the tomb? If he's already taking a massive risk by inscribing his true parentage into a stone, would he really let his beloved Nephew lie under a false name? Also I feel that if Ned intended for Jon to eventually find out who his real parents are, he would have chosen a different way to let him know. In my opinion, there's just too many variables with this - what if Jon had died after Ned and nobody ever found the tomb to bury him in? What if someone had discovered it while Jon was still in danger from Robert? That said, maybe he DID build a tomb for someone with a Targaryen name, son of Lyanna and Raegar. It would still be risky, but since he did such a great job of presenting Jon as his bastard (and since Jon thankfully looks more Stark than Targaryen), maybe he would be able to explain this away and nobody would put two and two together. Or better yet, have the tomb sealed so that if anyone asks he can tell them that Lyanna gave birth to a child who died, and that he secretly buried it in Winterfell out of respect for her. Then there's the possibility of leaving some kind of message for Jon in the tomb itself. This means that if Bran comes down from the North with the news of Jon's parentage, they'll be able to extract some physical proof to prove his claim.

Yeah, I like that theory. Ned had intended to tell Jon who his mother was when he returned from King's Landing...and we know how well that turned out. I always knew Jon was more. I never thought Ned Stark would have a child who was not Katlin's. I believe she survived the Red Wedding, and I would love to see her dining on crow while bowing to Jon.

I like this theory a lot, but I just cant see good ol' practical Ned ever taking that risk, no matter how much he might want Jon in the crypts with the rest of the Starks when the time comes, I cant see him risking anyone stumbling upon it blocked off or not that's a HUGE risk. And I'm guessing that Ned was expecting Jon to out live him and Howland, so then who was meant to put Jon in that crypt when he dies if no living soul knew about the crypt and if he did hide it well enough to to be found by the many crypt visitors over the years then how did Ned ever expect anyone to find it without being told? It's just all round to risky and the likelihood that Jon would end up in that crypt would be minuscule, but hell yeah that would be a cool way for Jon to discover his parentage
@thislldo23267 жыл бұрын
If his real name isn't Jon and on the tomb it is written with and his surname as Targeain, some interesting things could happen: Jon will see a tomb of a Targeian in the winterfell crypts, being curious, he will ask Dany, Tyrion, Davos, and maybe Sansa to come and look at the tomb (I believe Dany and Tryion will be in winterfell forming an alliance) . Most of them assume that Lyanna and Reagar must have had a son who died in infancy but, as they are walking away, Tyrion turns back and opens the tomb lifting off the stone revealing it to be empty. The Targeian is alive. They are comfused for a second before it suddenly clicks, and everyone stares at Jon, they know who he is: Lyanna's and Reagars son. While they try to keep it secret, Littlefinger hears of this and tries to take advantage of the situation by starting a rumour of Jon's true parentage. When they hear of this some people are outraged but many think Jon should try and take the Iron throne. However, Jon, not being Ned's son doesn't think he's even worthy of being "King of the north". Dany isn't happy, Jon has a stronger claim than she does and might get in the way of her becoming king. The doubt begins to cloud her mind and she turns against Jon, wanting the Iron throne for herself. Many people believe that Dany will end up as the villain and I think this is a possible way it could happen.

I like the theory of Jon having a crypt below Winterfell, but I can't help but think Ned's remains will be the catalyst that reveals Jon's parentage. My theory is with Winterfell back under Stark control, Walder Frey dead, and little finger declaring for the Starks Ned's remains will finally be able to make it back to Winterfell. Sansa and Jon will have a ceremony and place them in the crypt, but once the crypt is open will find a sealed letter from Ned addressed to Jon, placed there in the event he died before being able to tell Jon himself. This letter will detail the story of his birth, his name, and if he is a bastard or not. The crypt may also contain Dawn, since it's current location is a mystery in both the books and the show. This would work quite nicely with my favorite Dawn theory which is that the sword is actually Light Bringer, and will then be passed to Jon Snow who is the prince who was promised.

Are there actually Stone Dragons in the Game of thrones. In Danys visions in the temple she sees "from a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire" My thought is when Winterfell when it is burnt down. You then have Bran who had a dream from his wolves eyes summer who sees "The smoke and ash clouded his eyes, and in the sky he saw a great winged snake whose roar was a river of flame. He bared his teeth, but then the snake was gone. Behind the cliffs tall fires were eating up the stars... I know a lot of people will say this is a metaphor for John possibly being reborn but part of me thinks this may actually be a stone dragon. The part of shadow fire is interesting as well as it could mean the much anticipated Ice dragon but doesn't quite match up to Summers who saw a river of flame. Thus I like the Stone Dragon theory possibly who guarded or was held captive by magic on the walls of Winterfell in the form of a Gargoyle and was released during the fire. Thoughts ????

Nah, you would have to assume that Jon has never been down there and explored, but Jon and Rob used to play down there as kids. One time Jon put flour all over himself to look like a ghost to try to scare Arya and Sansa. Only Sansa was scared, but the point is that Jon had no fear down there in the dark and you can assume that him and Rob saw all there was to see down there. Bran even knew all the history of the different statues in the show when he took Osha down there, so the Stark kids have toured it plenty of times I'm sure. If there was a passage blocked by rubble, I'm sure the Lords of Winterfell had the resources to fix their most sacred site. Or if they didn't it would be prime exploring for young boys. It would have been for me as a kid.

Ned can't very well prepare a grave for Jon and then hide it where nobody will find it. That defeats its purpose. Unless he expected to come back and talk with Jon about it all later. But in that case, why would he prepare a grave beforehand? Theory doesn't check out.

Hi, I just found your channel and I love it! It would be pretty cool if he found his own statue, but I think Sam will find Jon's birth recorded in the Citadel we now know that there were more people that knew of his birth, there was 2 other people in the room with Ned and Lyanna.
