In this video you'll see so much progress on the quilt that Anna has been making with me this year. I created a playlist so you can find all the other videos in this series.
• Teaching my daughter i... It has been quite a journey for her, from choosing the fabric, so generously supplied by Spoonflower
www.spoonflower.com ,through all the stages of design and sewing to now, where she has created a quilt top, a scrappy backing and is hand quilting her lovely quilt.
I have been making what I call my 'Terry Quilt' alongside her. I was inspired by a quilt I saw on Terry Rowland's channel
• Color Wash Quilt Scrap...
it has been a real labour of love and I really like the result. I chose some very funky fabric for my backing. Brandon Mably's Sharks Teeth! Here in the UK I get my quilting fabric from Cotton Patch
www.cottonpatch.co.uk/
I'm not sponsored by them, they just have a wonderful range of things for quilters and are very friendly!
Over on Patreon the Advent Series is well underway where I have been making a different quilt block everyday for the whole of December, I am starting to work out the layout now and deciding how I will quilt it. This is my Christmas Gift for all my Patrons and everyone from $1 can view these videos, plus all past Advents, found in the 'Collections' feature. I am really grateful to all those who choose to support me in this way. Thank you all!
/ thelasthomelyhouse
Anna chooses the music for my videos from a subscription website called Epidemic Sound - today we have: Rosemary's Garden, Onthou, and What I Ever Wished For.
I am sending some fresh Pink Lane Bakery Mince Pies down the Lime Green Sofa for you all to enjoy and some ginger wine to warm your insides!
Have a very lovely time this Christmas, whatever you plan to do
With my love and thanks for your support
Take care
Love
Kate

Anna is also a great daughter-in-law. The woman my son married is a sociopath narcissist. She completely alienated him from every family member and friend he's known his entire life. Until he wakes up it will only get worse. My other son has a wonderful wife.

I just have to add…Anna, I think you’ve done a fabulous job on your first quilt. Confidence will come as you do more. There’s nothing wrong with this quilt. If you know of any trouble spots or anything you struggled with, you’re the only one who does. It is lovely! You can be well pleased. I find the joy is in the journey.

Kate looks into the camera with a twinkle in her eye, says 'sometimes I make mistakes and I don't mind that' (or something like that) and what a relief! Quilters who do it for the joy and not for the perfect piece. Thank you Kate. My friend and I would like you to adopt us (really - however between her and I our hijinks would probably leave you in a spin) but if you are looking for a couple of Australian daughters to adopt - let us know, we are dead keen!!! Take care both of you xx

So peaceful. Reminds me of... I lived in a small town where most were employed by the same company. A beloved worker was retiring, and the whole town came together to make him a quilt. Just like a historic quilting bee. I sat next to a person who had never even held a needle. A day of coming together in joy and comraderie. Merry Christmas to all!

I am so enjoying your teaching Anna to quilt. As a young child I remember my aunts and cousins quilting on a quilting frame. Oh how I wanted to quilt! The frame hung from the ceiling in the middle of a large sitting/ bedroom in front of a fireplace, the only source of heat in this very old uninsulated house. I might add it was dead of winter in SE Alabama. Not nearly as cold winters here as you have there. I remembering watching with much interest still able to remember it till today. The long stitches, the rolling from different angles and that as many as four or five relatives quilting together. Wonderful memories. These quilts were made from very worn pieces of clothing; shirts, dresses, coats, bedding, and collected from who knows where. I am now 78 and have never completed a quilt. I have made many assorted squares . Several years ago I was at an estate sale and in the garage there it was my hoped for quilt frame. No C claps , but no matter. No rope either. But as I watch you and Anna I now know I can lap quilt no frame needed. My home does not allow for the frame😂. But alas there is still hope.

I started quilting in the early 2000s and loved it. At the time though, there was this great pressure for every stitch and block to be absolutely perfect. There were shows on TV that pushed perfection as well. I always thought that was a shame because the beauty of quilts comes when they’re not absolutely perfect. That pressure for perfection also takes the joy out of it as well as the cost of all the notions out there. Thank you for reminding me to quilt with simplicity and pleasure. Love your videos!

Anna is absolutely adorable! What a blessing to have her in your life, Kate. The joy of creating a beautiful legacy is inspiring and exciting, even now in my 60s. I learned to quit from my grandmother (usually playing underneath the giant quilting frame and watching the needles poke through the underside) while the women worked above me. Such incredible memories and fabric is an enduring love of mine. Merry Christmas to you and your family and thank you for your lovely videos. 💗

Anna, just want to say that I very made many quilts, not one has been made without its imperfections, I’ve ripped stitches out to match seams, corners or points. Sometimes I sew a piece in the wrong place on the block. I fix it and move on. Thats the beauty of any quilt, and when the binding is on I love them all. Have fun your quilt pattern and colors are gorgeous.

Anna, your quilt is looking beautiful, you must be very proud of what you’ve achieved for your first quilt! Having Kate as a teacher is amazing too! Wishing everyone on The Last Homely House a very Merry Christmas, and looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year❤

Beautiful quilts. I would like to see how you bury a knot when starting and stopping your hand stitching by popping them to the backside of the quilt top. Might be handy to demonstrate for new quilters.

It's heartwarming to watch Mother & Daughter in Law working sweetly together. I have 2 dnlaws but neither like doing handwork. I love watching how you talk and work together. Love from Alabama...USA.

Oh, Miss Kate, I was given a bag of leftover fabric and made many, many half square triangles and sewed them into a table topper. I decided to give your big stitch quilting method a try and completely fell in love. It's so relaxing and was what I needed to "get out of my head and into my hands" thanks again for the inspiration.

This is a gorgeous video! Thanks for the close up Anna. I love the little 'plip plip' of the needle against the table top. That multi coloured thread is just so fun! Well done on these 2 beautiful quilts ❤
