Great real world assessment of this vehicle and the video was way less boring than the car is. No one should by this car and when they don’t Honda will just conclude that no one is interested and they’ll keep pushing out their ICE vehicles. It’s a real shame as many non enthusiast drivers do stick with the same manufacturer more and this will convince their many loyal customers to delay their transition. Would definitely buy anything else instead of this! BYD Atto 3 or Volvo V30 instead.

With the two new concepts, Honda 0 saloon and Honda 0 MPV, Honda announced a focus on "artistic design". So I think Honda realise that this ultra-conservative styling that they have rolled out over the past couple of model years is a mistake. As you would expect, the Honda 0 saloon's styling like a stretched Lamborghini Diablo or example of 1970's retro-futurism has been polarised between people who love it and people who hate it, but I guess this is better than everyone thinking your cars are too boring!
@The_Noticer.10 ай бұрын
Japanese car brands see EV as a lost cause. They all have token cars in their portfolio because they're obligated to, and that's it. Mazda, Honda and Toyota all simply dont care about them. And are happy to have all the UDM and EDM brands lose their shirts over it. They dont expect to make money on them, they dont expect to sell many of them. They make their money on Pilots, CRV's, HRV's and Civics. Because those are the cars people buy, and keep. The current formula of EV cars just isn't a winning formula. Not for the environment and not for your wallet. When they solve the battery problem and replace it with something viable, im sure they will put in more of an effort to create a viable product. The whole idea about EV's being simpler and therefor more reliable is a joke. Look at how complicated the heating/cooling circuit is on a Tesla. And a good ICE outlasts a battery pack several times. I think with the recent cars Honda has been putting out, they know how to build one if they want to. But the truth is, in this case they just want a token vehicle. The fact it is perplexing to a car journo why this is a throwaway car to Honda, is beyond me. I guess they really bought into the notion that EV's are a viable product that has mass appeal. They dont. They are too expensive, too complicated because of the batteries, require too many rare materials to produce and they are not long-time purchases. Noone buys an EV, they all lease them. Well what happens to them when that period is over. Or what is someone realises that he would actually like to own his own vehicle?

I get the feeling Honda and Toyota have developed deliberately poor EVs so they can say based on their sales figures that no one wants EVs. But what they’ve failed to recognise, like VW, is that if you develop a poor EV, buyers that want an EV will not stick to their brand and stick with an ICE car, they’ll just find a good one to buy from another manufacturer. The one thing missing from the review is that Honda shipped this to Europe to have something there, but in reality it's a Chinese market vehicle designed and manufactured by Honda's Chinese subsidiaries, originally released two years ago. It wasn't designed for western markets, isn't new, and that fwd Bev platform is only going to be for Chinese made Hondas. As a product for Europe, it seems like more of a placeholder to say they're selling something instead of it being an actual sequel to the e. Still, I very much agree with Jonny; it beats me why anyone would think it would be worth importing them to Europe at that price. At least they realized it wouldn't sell in the US (even though they played the same game with us by giving us a worse large Chinese model called an HRV instead of the latest HRV model sold in the rest of the world.)

I love my Honda e, even though it has terrible range (especially in the winter) and charges slowly. It took one test drive to totally sell me on the car - the brilliant chassis, gorgeous design, and obvious passion that went into the car sold me immediately. Everywhere you look, there's something that someone clearly thought about and put there to make it a better place to spend time in. For my daily commute into the city from a nearby village, I still can't think of a better car for me. It's the only car my partner has ever liked, and I don't think I would be able to ever sell it. As someone who prior to the Honda e hadn't ever considered an electric car (and still isn't interested in any other electric cars), this is immensely impactful. I say this all to emphasize how depressing this review is to me. I knew the e wasn't going to be a success - it was too expensive, too small, and had too short a range - but to see a company like Honda retreat into such mediocre blandness so soon after making such an iconic car is really sad. I fear that these special "Honda moments" of brilliant eccentricity may disappear entirely, and the industry will be much worse for it. Awesome work as always, wish you the best!

Great rant Johnny. I used to be a fan of Honda for years until Kia came along. Now we have moved on to the VW ID 4 to have some solid Germanic build quality and a whisper quiet ride.

Giving the E a better battery and a more efficient engine would've been all they had to do. Only thing holding back the E was the abysmal range (Especially here in Norway where we are lucky to even get 130km's in winter)

Yeah, why didn't they do a bigger range version and maybe a tech lift?!

japanese manufacturers very reluctant to build EV car. every EV they build in japan will be more expensive than build them in china (they don't want to build in china). if they managed to sell lots of EV, a big portion of money will go to china (battery/battery material). so, they always half hearted.

You’re totally 😊right about this car, Johnny. It’s a total failure, but so was the E: too expensive, rubbish range; stupid cameras instead of door mirrors (surely the biggest solution for a problem that doesn’t exist in years). There’s a wider problem here though. Just because a car is electric it doesn’t mean that it’s a good car. I’ve been totally underwhelmed or appalled by awful styling of lots of new models. Mercedes Benz, BMW, the VW ID debacle, Mustang E, Toyota whatever it’s called -they all fail to make me want one. The excuse for manufacturers to fit stupid touchscreens for everything is another no no for me. As a proponent of electric cars, we need you to make more videos like this one -telling the truth about these emperors new clothes cars.

This Honda e:Nywhocares and the new BMW i5 M60 blah blah blah are the perfect examples of why keeping a pre 2017 ICE on the road until it dies is the way forward. Paying hyper inflated new vehicle prices for tech that we all instantly turn off (lane departure etc) is so wrong. The front end used to just be heavy metal to protect you and lights to see what you are about to crash into. Nowadays it is like having a whole IT department glued on, no wonder insurance premiums have shot up if we have to replace all that crap that none of us asked for. Thanks Jonny for an honest review

The interior is undermined by the truly awful UI and software. It looks like beta software with zero polish. Clunky, slow and incoherently organised. Honda made the e then immediately abandoned it. Such a massive missed opportunity.
