I've never seen anyone with presbyopia (needs reading glasses) review rear view cameras. Anyone who uses varifocals for example can see in car mirrors because the object they're focusing on is not the mirror glass but with a camera and screen their focus is on the screen itself. This can easily cause many problems, especially when combining varifocals with the interior mirror because the reading segment of varifocal glasses is at the bottom of the lens which obviously means it can't help much to see a screen above your head. It at least needs a conversation... no?

max’s explanation reminds me a bit of my time at my art academy where I gobbled up intellectual design speak to validate something which was either accidental or more archaic than I was willing to admit. And I dont necessarily like the move towards the windowless bullet where you are solely dependent of technology rather than analogue and physical interactions with the car and its environment. I do appreciate the wish to differentiate, as it can lead to awesome design solutions but in interacting with traffic, the main responsibility in a car, this windowless back lid doesn’t add anything as single solution. And for a cars that size, the cargo capacity still vastly underperforms sportswagons and the less pretty Model Y. Yes, Tesla was lazy and could have put 100 kWh in that one to get similar range to Polestar 4 and Porsche Macan EV, but their clients can live with the specs, and get a big cargo space figure, whether that's real or not, practical or not, premium or not. It sells. It'd lke this trick on a proper wagon and get to stuff it without trying to get view out the inside mirror. It's a near trick, but it's more a Lambo wound patch for the bleeding than a Polestar's most valuable differentiators. Is the view better with the cam, until it get dirty? I'm sure it is.

I own a PS2, I just hope they have designed a way to clean the rear-view camera, the one on the PS2 gets filthy and is of very little use in a UK winter. I'll definitely consider this for my next car but also looking at Q6 e-tron, and of course the new Macan.

Pretty disappointed by this- BRILLIANT video again from Jonny! I'm beginning to see why people are turning away from BEV. The tech isn't advancing quickly enough, charge times, battery range etc hasn't improved much in the last 5 years. In the meantime prices are going up, charging costs are going up and manufacturers seem obsessed with selling us cars we don't want or need. Who wants an SUV/coupe?! It looks MASSIVE and yet the boot is useless, my measure for a practical boot is a Volvo 240- can you fit a washing machine sized box in the boot? Nope, then its not a family vehicle. Everything about it looks enormous and yet the place where EVs make any sense at all is in 'urban areas' and yet, thats the very same place where space on the road is at a premium. I really wish a manufacturer would think about how cars are used in the real world, what the real world looks like and make something thats fit for that purpose, rather than trying to create a futurist, blade runner esq aesthetic that is neither practical nor appealing.

Used to drive vans a lot, can't say I particularly found no rear window a huge problem.

Same. And my last two cars have had no rear wiper, which if you live in the UK, means you can't see out of the back for 70% of the time anyway. 🤣
@tonyhawk123 Жыл бұрын
Why is no rear window a “huge problem?” I'd say restricted FOV and blind spots are a bigger problem with rear windows, and a camera based system gets around that.

Car designers are becoming a parody of themselves. Black clothes, rollnecks and talking nonsense! How did you keep a straight face Jonny? Love the Polestar brand, love the styling of the car with the obvious exception. Rear cameras are great when reversing, awful when driving, and no wash/wipe on the camera lens. Such a shame as I would love them to succeed, but this will be a sales flop as they are innovating when they didn't need to. Too much technology too.
@gonncalomariamonteiro4176 Жыл бұрын
Beautiful design ! Long wheelbase, short overhangs, and perfectly balanced proportions...seems shorter and lower than what really is. From the back it gives hints of Volvo PV444 in a "retro-futuristic" kind of way. I don't give a damn if its not the best EV of the market, the fastest or the most efficient, because as a piece of design its just formidable.

Looks alright, out my price range. Am i the only one would wants a really old school feeling EV? I dont mean restomod but just a very analog feeling car with an EV powertrain. I am talking basic seats, door locks, knobs on the dash, no fancy over the top sensors in the wheels that adjust the suspension none of that. Basically as if they took a car from the 2000s and made it run on an electric motor instead of combustion. Cheap, fun to drive, gets you from A-B no fancy gimmicks or screens just a tool to travel in. For me less is more, i want something cheap and easy to work on that i dont really care about getting bush rash on or something or a sensor taking the entire car out that costs a few 1000. I dont care for headlights that are £800+ each none of that rubbish. Oh and glass, whats with them putting glass on roofs and stuff now! Just stop it nobody is looking up while driving right?

Excellent video as usual, and a great looking car too. But removing the rear window and then trying to say "it actually has a rear window" while pointing to a camera? Give it a rest. If Tesla had done this the entire internet would be ablaze with people taking the piss.
@doublehracing113 Жыл бұрын
How do you clean the cameras like you would a back window? what with the road muck and salty air and snow that covers your car over winter.
@jgn593 Жыл бұрын
You can't. So you need to stop en clean the damn camera. While if you have a window wiper you just control it with the sticks behind the steering wheel.
@matthewmason8982 Жыл бұрын
Makes total sense. So many cars have reversing cameras, and I’ve always wondered why I can’t just have that viewable 24/7. I tested a Model S and had it on the screen the whole drive and found it much clearer/ simpler than using the rear view mirror. Especially if you’ve got a tall numpty sitting in the middle rear seat 😂
@markusb12345611 ай бұрын
Is the camera on the rear window heated? For example, in Norway it often happens that the snow that falls is slightly wet and in the morning at in the morning it is very frosty, so there will be a lot of ice on the rear camera that cannot be removed manually. Did the manufacturer remedy this somehow?
