Believe me, they can. My best friend's brother is voting Trump. Normally their entire family votes Republican, but not this time, (they absolutely hate Trump) except the one brother. Many years ago, his wife nearly died because of onset diabetic pregnancies and miscarried. Twice. If the procedure needed had not been available, who knows what might have happened. Some religions boil morality down to "believing the right things" and "asking God for forgiveness." My wife nor I never thought about reproductive medicine. But as a combat vet coming back from the Middle East, we just wanted a family. My wife got pregnant but started bleeding and lost most her amniotic fluid at 18 weeks. We lost the baby that night. The hospital advised us that to protect my wife they could induce a "birth". Seen my wife give birth to our dead baby was the worst thing I've been through. I can't imagine what it felt for her. But I'm glad reproductive care was legal in Florida at that time. Not anymore with Desantis 6 week ban. Trust me, you don't think about reproductive care until your wife's is bleeding and your baby loses his heartbeat. If you are lucky, you will be glad to live in state that values a woman's life, and a doctor's training and knowledge.

I'm so sorry for your loss. A friend of mine had to go through an "induced birth" because they had traveled to a hospital that specialized in high risk pregnancies but was across our state line. They didnt realize an abortion ban had gone into effect there so had chisen that hospital because it was closer than the other specialty hospital that was IN our state. So she had to endure the pain of delivery without the reward because the fetus was dead. Had they stayed in our state the hospital would have put her under and done a D&C to remove the fetus, no birth trauma involved. THAT is the HUMANE thing to do. Not punish a mother because "she failed in her duty"

I find our local League of Women Voters has information or links to see who and what is on my ballot. Local newspaper should also have information as well. Definitely review everything long before you go to the polls.Make sure you are getting accurate, reliable information. There will probably be some bad actors out there spreading misinformation. That happens on "normal" election. This will NOT be a normal election.

55 years ago this month, I lost my mother, she was just 19 years old and her second pregnancy was not viable but the laws prevented to give her any treatment until the baby could be induced at 7 months. She waited in agony for weeks in the hospital until the baby was induced. My sister was born alive but so sick that died within 2 hours. My mother died that same night suffering of immense pain and fretful for her 2 little girls, the family did not want her to know that all her pain was in vain, because the little girl didn’t survive. I was just 1 year and 6 days old, so I never had the blessing to know her, just the picture of a young sweet smiling girl that I know as my mother. The lost is still with me, I mourn her everyday, I do not remember her voice or her touch. Not only the women suffer but families and generations as well. Please vote 💙 if not for you, for any family out there that may need your help.

2 years ago my sister (in Texas) went to the hospital because she suddenly started bleeding heavily. She was on medication for RA and she thought she was having a severe reaction to it, she almost died from blood loss. While in the emergency room, she found out she was likely at least 4 weeks pregnant. She had no idea she could even still get pregnant (39 and already had 4 kids). The miscarriage almost killed her and also caused her great emotional stress. But all I could think was ‘thank god’ they treated her because they thought she was having symptoms from her RA medication and not a miscarriage…if the doctors had suspected that first, they would have refused treatment and she likely would have died because she lost blood so quickly. That’s what they subtly explained to her husband while she was asleep. This country is terrifying to have children in. You have to hope that it goes perfectly everytime, or you risk being treated as a criminal at best and death at worst.

My first pregnancy, at age 19, ended with an abortion because the fetus had trisomy 13. The first ultrasound showed the head was six weeks behind in development with the rest of the body and wouldn't develop further. It was also a high-risk pregnancy. I was devastated, but I'm thankful I had a safe, medical abortion because I did, eventually, have two healthy pregnancies and have two amazing kids. It was 1980 & Missouri allowed abortion up to 12 weeks, but I was just past that so I had to travel out of state to Texas. Now, in 2024, a person can't get an abortion for any reason in either state. I was told I'd never carry a child to full term due to multiple health issues and injuries that were not addressed properly. After suffering 4 miscarriages, one that required a D&C, I double and tripled my birth control (which they are also trying to legislate). I did end up carrying my son to full term with almost losing him multiple times and major bedrest. I confronted my father (maga) when he was espousing this crap and he freaked out on me. After having 5 healthy children, we would carry signs against abortion at abortion clinics. So when my doctor explained that my next fetus was dying, I refused to have an abortion. When the fetus died, yet I continued to have around the clock “morning sickness “, I refused to have an abortion. After having a dead fetus inside me for two full months, complete with “morning sickness “, the doctor informed me that if I didn’t have a procedure, that I would die. To check into the hospital, I had to sign a paper saying I was having an abortion. That was when I realized those signs about how many babies die each year from abortion, I knew they were lying, so lost all respect for the anti-abortion group, and have not looked back.

It was never about killing the unborn child ever, it’s always been about saving one out of two twins, it’s always been about saving the Mother early enough that it will never impact on her next chance at carrying a child to full term. If I had lived in the States when I had gone through over 20 miscarriages 3 stillborn children, all because I refused to have a hysterectomy in my early 20’s all because I had endometriosis and cystic fibrosis of the uterus, I wanted a baby I was told I only had a 50%, but not every woman’s body is going to comply with what we want and what we can have. I would have been denied the after care treatment that was needed after each of my losses, but also in the States I would have been branded and charged for negligence of not going full term on each of those pregnancies which is happening right now to many women in America. Instead of helping them they are charging them for something that is beyond their control.

It doesn't affect you because luckily, you live in Canada. Many of these so "pro-lifers" are not so keen on people in the LGBTQA+ community having equal rights under the law. Project 2025 spells out a lot of this, but many states have passed, or tried to pass legislation already to allow employees and landlords and government officials (such as clerks that issues marriage licenses) to freely discriminate against you if they happen to just believe you are immoral according to their personal religious beliefs. Already there are states that say it is perfectly okay for a pharmacist to refuse to fil any prescription that they "morally" object to, and for a doctor to deny you health care in the name of THEIR "religious freedom". There are plenty of these kind of nutjobs in Canada too, but hopefully, they will never take such a stronghold on your beautiful country.

If you look up the maternal mortality rate (where maternal mortality was ALREADY unacceptably high) in states with abortion restrictions since roe v wade was overturned, that will give you a better idea of the amount of deaths (IF it's being reported accurately, which it probably isn't). They are from women who just don't want the responsibility of a kid. The left uses these extreme cases to pull at heartstrings. I cannot imagine having to carry a dead child in me for another 5 months to term, and I don't even know what health consequences it would have posed for my health. As hard as it might sound - without proper medical care like a DNC the remains of a dead fetus would not remain in the uterus for months without complications. There is a very high risk of an infection resulting in a sepsis and sepsis is, even with the best medical treatment, all to often lethal.

20 years ago my sister in law got into a similar situation. The fetus was still alive, but an infection threatened to trigger a miscarriage. In the end they had to stop tocolytics, knowing that would trigger birth of a fetus far to young to have any chance of survival. The girl died shortly after delivery. Now, that is a situation nobody wants to experience. But the last thing you need in that situation is a prosecutor breathing down your neck.
