that is interesting. in open source software and development, i remember reading YEARS ago, like 2010, on Ubuntu's site, how their development works, with graphical charts and how many patches are pushed to upstream. so, i think every downstream project can and should benefit their upstream. i wonder if the kernel and mesa driver they maintain will get pushed upstream to benefit Ubuntu and Debian, or will it just stay there in Tuxedo OS only. i hope their great changes are contributions which will help everyone in the free OS sphere, including Arch, Fedora, Opensuse, etc.

I do really like the powerplan app they have, and their automated power adjustment feels like the only one that works without major compromises. I think it's a solid alternative if you don't align with Kubuntu, Neon, or KFocus. I honestly just wish that they also have FerenOS theming/UX options but it's clear that it's... not easy to accomplish. I launched the installer from the desktop, it went a bit further, and "crashed" again. Once more I was back at what looked like the beginning of the installer. I've been using Tuxedo OS on a Tuxedo laptop for a while and generally really like it. My only issue is that the graphics will sometimes bug out horribly after suspending (which it'll do by default after some time of inactivity). This will often show the contents of your programs even before you've unlocked the device, which is absolutely unacceptable from a privacy and security standpoint, especially in a business context. I understand that it's unlikely that Tuxedo wrote the code which causes the bug (probably something with the combination of Nvidia and KDE) but that's no excuse, as Tuxedo are the ones that chose to combine these technologies into a package they charge a fair amount of money for. Some fix or workaround for this is absolutely and urgently needed. Other than that, I can only recommend Tuxedo.

Now things got worse: Right hand side of the screen only shows every second line of pixels, and screen content is sized down to about two thirds of the screen. I kinda find it frustrating to have to go to a derivative fork of a mainline distribution, in this case Ubuntu, to get more hardware support. Why aren’t all these additional kernel modules and libraries already in the mainstream distros , e.g. Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, or even the Kernel itself?
@MaryamMaqdisi Жыл бұрын
Things are usually ported upstream, but it can take time until it’s merged + I would bet most people run older kernels anyway (like me) so it will take a while until they benefit from these changes. Other changes may break things for some devices so they may be doomed to forever be outside the main kernel.

Top-spec Stellaris 16 w/ 5y warrany is $5140 + $99 shipping to US. Over 5 years (absolute minimum life given the warranty) this is $1047.80 a year or $87.32/month. I was really impressed by how Pop OS makes it super easy to install a recovery partition and to upgrade firmware on Lenovo laptops - less impressed with how crashable their Pop Shop is - but I guess all their resources are going into Rust development just now. I also get really annoyed about the "bloat" nonsense - I suspect this mostly comes from people who got used to measuring drive storage and maybe even RAM module size in MBs a while back and haven't really moved on since ;)

Okay, I tried it a bit and I generally liked it a lot. It really feels like kubuntu without all the stupid things from Canonical (or like Mint with KDE, if you wish). I would not say that the system is bloated, but there are a couple of extra utilities from Tuxedo (useless on my hardware). They can be removed, but I've noticed that this removes some kernel modules, so be careful. Also, shortcuts from the menu remain and they need to be removed manually, which is sad. For some programs, German language packs are installed by default, and I had to manually install some Russian langpacks (for example, for Firefox). Changes in KDE Plasma are not significant, easy to change to the stock state. Almost all the necessary programs are in the repositories. And yet I miss AUR. I broke everything (okay, not everything, just Dolphin) pretty quickly. But this is purely my fault, a normal user should not experience this.

Their hardware looks really good and with a tailored Tuxedo OS (pun intended) it makes for a good out of the box "it just works" experience. Given the higher price point of their hardware though, I'm kinda expecting to have an easy premium experience with the device, but it seems like a solid brand.

I'm currently looking for a "Linux friendly" 13'-14' laptop. But non of them so far is offering AMD ryzen 6k/7k-series with out a discrete gpu. For me performance per watt, and there by battery life is a must, and when I need ,rdna 680/780m is awesome. So intel just doesn't cut it. I'm currently using a Lenovo (Ryzen 5600u, getting on the slow side for my work..), it's awesome until you need to update the bios (Windows only -.- )

Out of curiosity, what kind of work do you do?

I had a few issues due to its being (semi) rolling: I still have library to update but in order to do so I should remove other stuff I want to keep. I changed my preferences to prefer packages from Ubuntu instead of Tuxedo to have a more "stable" OS, or at least a snapshot of it. I guess I'll eventually have to reinstall it from scratch and try harder to keep up to date

Why are these powerful machines still stuck with resolutions different from 4K? 4K is already old nowadays. Have you ever reviewed the Tuxedo Gemini 17 Gen 1? That appears to be a good machine for engineers, with a 4K display. Thanks for sharing your ideas! Very interesting!

So, we're saying Tuxedo OS should suit most users?

I am planing to purchase a sirious gen 2 laptop because of your videos, and i was wondering if getting it with Ubuntu set by them will let me use their controls for the PC that they have integrated or that is only in their OS ?

When switching graphics, do you still have to reboot though? A year ago the commented under another reviewer that they intended to implement a seamless switch , much like on Windows. Is it already there?

When you test graphics performance, you usually do gaming tests. How does this relate to performance in applications like video cut? A gaming laptop that can play for example Cyberpunk, can also be used for video cut or which requirements does it have?

How you can know if the control centre would work on your laptop from another manufacturer?

How do you get support from Tuxedo Computers on their laptops if you live outside of the EU? Do you have to ship the entire laptop at your own cost?
@TheLinuxEXP Жыл бұрын
Returns and cancellations are free (they pay for the shipping), so I’d say it’s the same for support, but not sure! You can ask them though, they’re on Mastodon if you use that!

My Tuxedo laptop fan has worn out. I have the Aura 15 Gen 1. I live in Russia so I can't mail anything to Germany now. However, I contacted Tuxedo support about my issue asking for the part number for a new fan and they gave me all the necessary information to get the right part and fix it myself. They're really helpful and friendly. I can't recommend this company enough. Other than my fan wearing out everything else has been stellar. Note that I've had this laptop since March 2021 and I took it to campus a lot for my master's degree. Something might have happened with it in my bag all the time.

I live in the US and had a Tuxedo Pulse that had a faulty trackpad. They paid for shipping back and forth, fixed it, and had it back to me in about a week and a half. It was no more trouble than dealing with any other manufacturer and the machine has been rock solid since.

I running MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit... Run Great but when 2024 comes around (?) more programs & Browsers aren't going to update, moving away from Windows 7(?). So sent this old timer is HP DV7 AMD 17.3 w fingerprint scanner, 2.0ghz x2 CPU, Dual HHD/SSD, Blu-ray/DVD-RW (News one "Not built-in" you have to carry extra DVD/RW devices) so I going to set one HHD of dual boot Tuxedo. I like the Tudedo laptop for DIY fixable or changeable components? Look at the review on the Laptop a lot of PC get lost are damaged coming to USA? So looking for a seller I mean Tux Laptop 1500-6K USD. in the USA? But now I will try it out! OS and see?
