"not your grandma's country star" Have you ever listened to Dolly Parton ? She tackled labour rights, women's issues, and various other social issues in her music. As did a hell of a lot of other classic country musicians. Folsom Prison Blues? Sixteen Tons? Johnny Paycheck? We haven't seen mainstream Country/Western artists do this in a couple of generations. She is EXACTLY your grandma's country star.

Its not a new thing for radio to refuse to play an artist that doesn't fit the majority of the audiences views. Here's the thing.... Kacey isn't played (or WASN'T played) on country radio not because they're confused about whether or not she's actually creating country music, but because she called out some of the biggest labels in the genre. She called out Big Machine in her song "Good Ol' Boys Club" as well as just the environment in the business of country music. That had her shut out and BLACKLISTED from radio and award shows. That's why the album before Pageant Girl was bigger than PG itself.

The identity of _traditional_ country music was never been restricted to blue-collar white folks. The genre has roots in blues and old-time as well various styles of folk music. The problem is that commercialized modern country forgot its eclectic roots and started playing almost exclusively to a very narrow audience. That ended up backfiring, as now a lot of artists feel the need to infuse country with other genres in order to make it interesting and marketable.

I myself am from the same East Texas environment that is not only lost in time but lost in itself. When I say lost I mean a respitory therapist still blows smoke up the asses of drowning victims. She is the breath of fresh air this stale environment needs, but many within this enviroment are scared to death of anyone, woman or man, who can present a new concept in thinking and living. I served with many heroes while in the Marines, now in the enviroment of East Texas lost in time, she is the hero of both the present and the future East Texans for she is idealistic in an otherwise stagnant enviroment lost in its own memories of grandeur. She has the type of faith so many here in the bible belt fear. She has faith in herself, her abilities, and the message within the words of her music. Bible thumpers and verse laden people here will say Only thru faith in the Lord can one believe in themselves. She has proven by having faith in oneself the God believes in you. She is a Rolex from a sun dial enviroment.

Terrific review of Kacey Musgraves. The only portion of this video incorrect about Musgraves, is that she can not be considered anywhere near Taylor Swift. Musgraves is clearly, more talented and honorable in her humility. Musgraves appears as a sleek brown haired angel, to the liking of a modern Crystal Gale and the mystery of June Carter Cash. She is a truly talented woman who clearly is country with a bit a glitz. Enjoyable and relevant mix of songs that are spiritual and even Godly.

She like most of us is somewhat an enigma. Or a mix, if you will? She's so captivating I can't help but fall head over heals for her and wanting all the success she can attain. That said, it is a very important fact that all music is hypnotic causing us to attribute way too much power to its enticements and the good feelings it inspires. It also cause us to attribute way too much adoration and intelligence to the talent and beauty. I do give her credit for seeing threw most of all this herself for the most part. It is that very trait and her seeing threw all this that allows here to both possess and to come fresh to her unspoiled down homeyness and fresh to each song. You go Girl. But there are some definite dangers: Drugs, or any mind altering substances are dead end mistresses that entices all of us with it's lies. And one last danger. The music business is run by money grubbers who will literally run her into the ground with rigorous night after night scheduling until she drops if she lets them. Yes, this industry is a slow burn until one is just burned out and thrown to the ash heap the public never see. Yes, I'm a real fan of yours Kacey, but be super cautious about perils of drugs and the greedy money grubbers. P. S. It was not until I came to my very own knowledge of who Jesus really is (not someone else's version) that I got the answers I'm espousing here.

First of all, What you're calling "mainstream country music" is just Nashville's shittier version of top 40 pop. Kacey doesn't conform because she makes actual music, whether that be country, pop, soul or whatever her creative desires happen to be at that moment. Second, she's magnificent and also from my home town. That is all.

hi nomad, just want to clarify your definition of shitty version of pop. times are changing and so is country music. yes we all cherish old country. but the new Mainstream Country Is more Country Rock. EVEN "Rock" music has changed. So has BLUES n Soul. Then let's add Rap in there. people like Taylor Swift are POP. She wants to stay 16 and sing "Bubble Gum" music. The New Mainsteam is more like Old SKYNRD, MOLLY HATCHET, 38 SPECIAL, WHO WERE GREAT SOUTHERN COUNTRY ROCK BANDS, and who I Loved very much since I was a teen and I'm 63, AND They are from My Town of Jacksonville Fla.💝. She was "on the scene" long before 2013.. she had a duet with Josh abbbot in 2009. Which i sang to on a daily basis when it came out haha and i dont even care for country music much.

Love her voice and her music...still don’t call it country but a lot of the new ones aren’t. So it’s new it’s great. Don’t care about her political views or any of the stars. Just right and play. But she’s amazing

I’m not trying to hate on this channel I actually enjoy their content and I feel it’s well informed, however, if you don’t know all your fact about something, don’t make a informative video about it. Country is more than the stereotypical stuff you think of. It was really the drive for America’s storytelling and a push for creativity. Don’t act like it’s all twang about beer. It’s more than that! Kacey Is just taking the initiative to carry on our roots to a younger audience. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
