Hey, awesome video ! She-Hulk makes me cringe as a feminist. It's just one more awfully written "women empowerment" series. I just want to add something. Yes, it depicts sexism in an awful way. But at the same time, most women do suffer from fear and anger on a daily basis. Not because some guy mansplains something but more like when we inevitably run into a creep in the subway or in the street. And 1 out of 3 women have been raped soooo they got the fear and anger right but not the real reasons. If they really wanted to depict what women have to go through they should've made a drama about sexual assault imo

Bruce when becoming a hulk: -Been hunted down by the US government for almost a decade. -Almost died couple times and tried to commit suicide half of his life. -Unable to control his rage and alt ego for years until they decide to get along. -Watches close friends die or abandon him off the bat -Isolated himself for almost a decade to protect himself and others. -Took years for the public to recognize him as a hero than a monster. Bruce past: -Survive abuse from his father. -Mother committed suicide when he was a kid. -Had to get a life on his own without any friends till college. -Been bullied throughout his life with no source of comfort until adulthood. She-Hulk: -Instantly became a celebrity -used her cousin name as leverage -Brag about being better and stronger. -Idolize when first recognized. Jennifer Walters past: -Grew up in a healthily supportive family -Had friends and groups when young -able to achieve to go to law school without any issues -had better life than Bruce. But dear god please explain how catcalling is soooooo much worst than what Bruce went through... Edit: Let's not forget Hulk is just one personality banner has to fight off to be normal while Jennifer just had one which is herself. So let's add Bruce having mental disorder on the list.

@@nokturn882 I'd add to that that the society in which they became Hulks is really different. When Hulk popped out (as a menace btw) heroes weren't that much of a thing. When She-Hulk became a thing it's like "she doesn't feel menacing compared to the many alien attacks we've got in the past years" and it's obviously mediatised. Also I don't think she "used" Hulk's name as a levrage. It's more like "people put an etiquette on me, imma use it". They don't come from the same background and it's what *could've* made her character interesting. Still, I feel the fact that Marvel is heading in a really different direction that feels more about getting new fans into Marvel rather than pleasing the audiance which is frustrating when you consider that it's supposed to be interconnected stories and so you kinda have to watch it without liking it if you are interested by the new phase they are unwrapping. Nowdays I see Marvel as a dog owner treating us as such making series that you may or not like and giving us little treats of connections from this to that movie or serie, episode after episodes to keep us watching shit we don't enjoy. How many Raimi fans went to watch Doctor Strange or Tobey fans went to see Spiderman:NWH and now how many daredevil fans are going to wait to see Daredevil on their screen even if they don't like She-Hulk... or Megan the Stallion (which I am proud of for being in the show) fans which again bring traction to Marvel from people who aren't into it usually. Now they start vanilla with a geekey looking lawyer to a big green attractive powerful lawyer (kinda basic usual girl character trope teens used to watch in the 2000s) and they might peek more and more to see if she is there, and start liking what thhey do with that other character etc... I mean I did the same and started watching all the important movies knowing that Infinity Wars was coming and now I feel like Disney's puppy. Anyway, it's the beggining of a new phase with new heroes, a new story and a bigger fanbase for Disney but I feel like the fans are going to be less engaged and are going to watch just to see well written stories get destoyed while their main character doesn't have anything to do with their own serie like Wanda.

Well her middle/upper middle class upbringing, attending UCLA, passing the state bar and becoming a public defender as a woman was a much more traumatic experience than Bruce's life where he had an abusive possibly psychotic father (assuming the same pre-established lore), his mother dying at his father's hands. Possibly growing up in the foster system. Becoming the Hulk causing collateral damage and possible harm to innocents. Living on the run for years. All the trials and tribulations as an Avenger, losing friends and comrades etc etc. Yeah, Jen had a much harder life. That's why she's better....🙄
@t.m.73302 жыл бұрын
The most intriguing part about Jen's condescension towards Bruce in the scene where she explains her goddess-level anger management skills is how unintentionally revealing it is regarding the writers' attitude towards men. It would be one thing if Jen had complained about cat calling and 'mansplaining' to some sexist middle-management type. That would make the condescension at least more understandable, if still heavy-headed. But the fact that she said it to Bruce, who has faced far grander difficulties and far greater injustices than her, exposes the writers' view that there's no difference between Bruce and some sexist middle-management type as far as the writers of the show are concerned. Individual struggles, choices, and experiences mean nothing. Regardless of what Bruce has done or gone through, regardless of how much he has grown, he will never be good enough. He deserves to be lectured at, corrected, and put in his place simply because he is a man.

What is terrifying is how deeply these things have sunk into real life. When I married my Wife in 2008, I had already been suffering Chronic Pain for 15 years due to an unknown cause (eventually discovered in 2013- Inoperable Spinal Damage.) She repeatedly insisted she could handle it. I said it could get worse. That didn't matter. She 'loved me'. Because of the neurological damage, 'Bedroom Time' was incredibly difficult for me. Like a Car with a Broken Transmission, rev that engine all you want, the car is NOT moving. But still, I DID love her, so I pushed myself to the edge of a nervous breakdown trying to meet her needs. I couldn't even get close, and in 2014, she had decided she'd had enough of my 'Selfishness and Self-Centeredness.' and decided that nothing was better than not enough, so ended all intimacy between us. Not only that, but instead of just admitting she can't (or won't) deal with having a disabled Husband, she has created a narrative where I am now a 'Selfish, Betraying, Gold-Digging, Sexist, Racist, Transphobe, Nazi.' (Also admitting I have not changed since we married.) I am now almost totally disabled and have needed to be in an assisted living facility for years, but she just recently berated me for not 'Providing for her', despite the fact she is in the top 7% of US Wage Earners and has never needed any money I could bring to the table. The nightmare my life has been for so long is just an irritating annoyance to her. The thing that made She Hulk a likeable character was how her story differentiated from the Hulk. Bruce viewed the Hulk as a curse, while Jen views She Hulk as a gift. Jen was a meek and timid woman, with no confidence in herself, not in her job and especially not in her social life. Becoming She Hulk changed all that as suddenly she was brimming with confidence. She was smart, sassy and was not ashamed with how good she looked. She never complained about the attention men gave her, that only started happening in recent comics. She loved the attention and would often seek it out. It made her a better lawyer and better person cause she wasn't afraid to put herself out there. But she was also a compassionate person and would always do her best to use her skills as a lawyer to help people and ensure everyone gets a fair trial. Even villains. Not only that, she deeply loved her cousin Bruce. She knew what he went through and it hurts her to know that she couldn't do anything to save him from the trauma hes endured. Thats what made She Hulk a good character. She wasn't meant to be a mouthpiece for Feminist writers to put down men. She was meant to be an inspiration for young women to be confident in themselves and not be afraid to put themselves out there in the world.

They were likable, sympathetic, well-written, and had wonderful stories to get caught up in. I enjoy female superheroes too, but only if they are likable, sympathetic, well-written, and have interesting stories to tell. I have no idea why writers these days think women only want to see women portrayed as better at everything with no need for growth (Captain Marvel, Rey, etc.). I don't care if a character is male or female, I want to watch them struggle and fail and try again and eventually overcome. I want to go on a journey with them and see them become a stronger person on the other end. I feel like a "The Office" vibes would've suited She-hulk a lot more. Explain that a film crew is documenting her ability of being able to become the hulk whilst maintaining a professional job such as a lawyer to help bridge how these people with powers don't have to be in this superhero avenger level position to make a change in the world no matter how small. She can 4th wall break during the interview segments and it allows the audience to get that acknowledgement that she's talking to the film crew/us.

The comics I read of She Hulk were just light comedy lawyer drama. And if was a really fun read! Think Ally McBeal helping out superheroes on their legal trouble. I dont get why they didnt do this. There is a lot of material there and you could showcase many subpar Heroes and villains that way, whole showcasing some Real life conséquences of super héro life. Potential for comedy, absurdism and drama all at once! And I understood SheHulk as a woman who just felt more confident and happy as a 7ft tall green bodybuilder instead of a cause but mousy brunette. And honesltly there is a good character arc right there!

The worst part is how these kinds of shows portray men as cartoonishly awful to try and justify it. I know enough girls to know that more often than not the guy in that situation would be the one stroking her ego while the woman would be trying to tear her down. Sure he's doing it to get in her pants which is it's own can of worms, but always amazes me how male characters in "female" shows always have to either be a villain or a subservient male apologist. I mean the antagonist of this episode is literally the Hulk, what the fuck are they doing.

Because no female chess player has ever accomplished what she supposedly did in Queen's Gambit, yet she's still doing the whole "hah you underestimated me because I'm a woman!" @@theNimboo Also statistically women and men are on par intellectually just men have more variation. Men are both smarter and dumber than women if you look at the spread. Men are more likely to suffer from things like addiction, schizophrenia, asperger's, down syndrome, general autism and other developmental disorders that lower their IQ but are also more likely to have mutations that raise their average IQ to be on par with women's. Also also if we look at it from a practical standpoint currently women are graduating from universities and colleges at a higher frequency than men so there is that if we want to compare things like general well-roundedness because women do exceed men in many social skills as well. Trust me, I hate woke feminism probably as much as you do but a woman being as smart or smarter than a man doesn't automatically equate it to "feminist bullshit propaganda". It's really about the character and how it's presented. Their skills need to be plausible and it remains plausible for some women to be smarter than some men. Maybe even a lot of men depending on who they are. Edit: yep I'm going to fix that comma placement or it's going to bug me.

@@theNimboo So the story isn't based totally in historical fact but it never claimed to be and it's not actually impossible for such a thing to happen. 5:14 My blood boiled just seeing that video clip soundless. For those who don't know, that is Amy Schumer taunting Steve-O about his close friend Ryan Dunn dying, saying she knew he wished he died instead, and telling him everybody felt the same way. From my understanding, Ryan Dunn was his best friend Steve-O had something like survivor's guilt plaguing him, and losing Ryan was something that was motivating him to be worthy of being still alive after all that had happened. It was a touchy subject as, frankly, people headbutt a bullet over a lot less than what Steve-O was going through. The camera looked right at Steve-O after she said her bit to him, and you could see him dying inside. It was heartbreaking, and half the audience laughed without even understanding what was happening, adding to the trauma. After some time, Steve-O came out and put the fires out with the idea that 'she was trying to be funny, it's okay, I'm okay, let's let it go', being an absolute legend. Him publicly requesting people forgive her is probably the only reason she has a career worth anything anymore. Amy Schumer isn't just 'unfunny'. She's an absolute piece of trash. All her feminist politics are propaganda as well, and anybody who is in the know about that is aware she knows it too. She's hurting people and lying to further her career day-by-day. I don' t think most of the commenters here get the point of the ironic jokes they make. The majority of complaints about progressiveness aren't just for sake of adding them to please the audience, it's using both sides of that spectrum of folks that are either super , terroists-like, against it or extremely too for it to where it just hurts any right cause. I think this is looking TOO deep into things that don't need to be put under a microscope and at the same time also looking at other things with a super careless and surface judgment. The inconsistent breakdown of all these points he made are simply just made to be a sinic for his own sake. I get it, I can be like that at times but I can take the time and reflect on my own judgement of irrelevant things in my life like a show that just isn't for me. I don't make an entire essay to try and fish for a party of folks to agree with me. I just have my own opinions and move on about my day. This took him days, maybe weeks, to make and edit and even a day alone is already too much to be sinical about a show you just don't enjoy and still continue to watch. It'd be like me complaining about the horribly overrated show called Game of Thrones and then completely taking the time to make a whole essay on why I don't like it just to have a party of other morons that jump on my dick about how much I hate Game of Thrones. I don't like the show and never did because it was boring and lazy with the only real reason I kept watching was that it had amazing fight scenes and gore for my liking. Other than that, the characters were OK but had wasted potential. That said, I don't care enough to make a video or even write any longer than two sentences on why I don't like a show or film. I love she-hulk cause it's kind of really making a joke of those that literally think it's cheesy or contradictory because that's the target they hit with the jokes the characters make. lol. We get that touching moment, only for the bar to be destroyed in Jen's tantrum and it meant nothing anyway. Bruce isn't upset, Jen isn't sorry and my feelings were misplaced, instead I should've remained vapid, cynical and most importantly self centred. Especially because I'm a man.

The fact that they changed the very simple way she gets the Hulk powers, was enough for me start to losing interest. It would’ve been so easy and much more realistic for the crash to knock them both unconscious with Jennfier being seriously wounded. The doctors could’ve then began transfusing Banner’s blood without realizing who he is (just that he’s a compatible donor to her), then Jennifer would turn into She-Hulk, awakening Bruce, to then run out of the hospital in terror & anger with Banner Hulk quickly chasing her down and calming her. That would’ve not only been much more compelling, but it could’ve established their relationship and familial bond. Not to mention it could’ve provided us with some great background on Bruce’s understanding and expertise around the Hulk and how he was able to achieve his “symbiosis” with Hulk in Endgame (which was never truly explained).

I can’t believe the absurdities that some of the shill media are espousing, like this one: While there is very much a female-centric perspective to this series, it does not come across as preachy nor does it turn the male characters into caricatures to drive home a message. -Alex Maidy, JoBlo’s Movie Network I must vehemently disagree. Every man in the show was either an idiot or a caricature. And Jennifer Walters is completely obnoxious and unlikable. And that’s fine, even for a main character, but nobody else in the show is likable either. If a man were to act the way she did we would calls that toxic masculinity. but when a woman acts in that same way what do we call it? Brave? Strong? Powerful? No, I say we call it what it is. Women can behave toxically masculine too. I’m all for equality.

The absolute worst part of her talking about how “angry” she is all the time because of her little “woman problems” is that the writers missed a massive opportunity to make her suffer a real “woman problem”. There’s plenty of things women have to be more careful about and tend to have happen to them more then men, but instead the show goes with mansplaining and catcalling. Brilliant writing guys.

It'd odd because the comics had already had She-Hulk pretend her problems are equal to her cousin's and it didn't work there either. The really annoying thing is that it's very out of character for Jen Walters to feel that way. The reason her hulk form has her normal mind and personality is precisely because she's so well adjusted. The thing is, when Marvel is creating "strong" female characters, they do so by stripping them of everything that makes them feminine, and She-Hulk is no exception. So it would be utterly impossible for Marvel to have had her have a miscarriage because that is something that only woman can experience, and therefore does not fit their image of a strong female character.
@MikeTXBC2 жыл бұрын
You know who was a good example of a "strong female character" in a Marvel show? Jessica Jones in her three-season show, originally on Netflix, but now on Disney Plus. Jessica took charge of her life and had her own investigation business, but she also needed (and asked for) help from both men and women, but she was NEVER a weak person. Additionally, Jessica's goal was never to "tear down" men. In fact, she even tried to HELP Kilgrave, a man who actually once mind-controlled her! If anyone deserved to be torn down, it was him! Instead of immediately attacking him or dismissing him because he's a man, she first sought to help and possibly redeem him (although that ultimately failed in the end, and she was forced to "handle him"). Unlike modern MCU female heroes, she wasn't anywhere close to perfect (she made a lot of mistakes, but learned from them), and she would've been the first person to tell someone that, nor did she blame men for her issues. And she had a LOT of issues, some of which included alcoholism, anti-social personality disorder, trust issues, parental issues, and even a medical problem when she got stabbed and had to have her spleen removed. The MCU needs more female heroes like her instead of the perfect, totally infallible characters they have today who constantly need to remind the audience of "girl power!" and how "men are awful." These aren't characters worth watching when their entire purpose is to present an obnoxious, overbearing, and completely misguided PSA in the form of films or TV series.

The scene where Jennifer talks about controlling her anger really annoys me. I’m really hating how when things like this happens, the character she’s talking to, who usually tend to be men get their trauma and hardships ignored or played for laughs. Bruce really sat back and let her say she has it harder basically, and said nothing about seeing his father kill his mom, having to kill his father, forming 2 personalities because of abuse, trying to delete himself, going to war with his first loves father who was a military general, losing Natasha, not knowing how to control a power he didn’t want until now although he was responsible for literally leveling cities, etc. Despite all of that, he’s the calmest he’s ever been. A ton of depth could have been added to Walters' character by having her have been a victim of rape or abuse. Her abuser getting off easy in court would be a compelling reason for her to seek a career in law, and a massive drive for her to excel in it. It could also create in her an above-normal need for bodily autonomy and perception of threats to that. With this, the potential assault threatened by catcalling would trigger fears bolstered by trauma, and peers perceiving her as overly-emotional or unprofessional would be serious threats to her efforts and ability to protect people from what she went through. Additionally, a moral struggle could be explored as she tightropes between protecting victims and exacting vengeance on potential effigies of her abuser. Another interesting change would be that the women who joke about domestic abuse and coerce her into letting them alter her appearance could be just as threatening, if not more, than the men she encounters afterward, changing the message from "men bad" to "removing autonomy is wrong regardless of intent" With a focus on consent and autonomy, Bruce rescuing her from the car crash and transfusing his own blood into her to save her life would be much easier to perceive as a violation (for both character and audience), and the frequent, involuntary transformation would be much more distressing. Her struggle with the hulk could be turned into an incredible allegory for processing trauma and recovering from abuse, but instead we got a legal comedy. She-Hulk could be and should have been so much more.

Giving She-Hulk past trauma would have fundamentally altered her character. The reason Jen Walters and She-Hulk are one and the same mentally is because she's well adjusted and doesn't have any hang-ups. That's why suddenly making her have repressed anger doesn't work. If she was that mad all the time her Hulk form would be more like her cousins. If they needed to give her issues they could have explored the dichotomy between the way Jen Walters looks and the beauty of She-Hulk. She-Hulk is supposed to be a fun character and I personally like that about her. That's not to say you can't serious stories about her because you can. I don't think herself needs to be a good person who likes to help people at both of her jobs.

@Alp-xe6ty2 жыл бұрын
Not even sure I'd agree with "difficult to go through". Inappropriate? Yes, sometimes. I grew up through the 90s and throughout my whole childhood, catcalling was seen more as banter, often even seen as a compliment and if it wasn't, it would be shrugged off with an eye roll. We are in danger of making really trivial, perhaps inconvenient interactions into full on drama. I knew more than one girl/woman who, whilst I was growing up, actually griped or got a bit jealous over the fact that they didn't experience it. Society is getting weaker and more mentally fragile. Obviously there are niche scenarios and situations where this doesn't apply but a majority of the time, it's harmless banter.
@jimmyprimetime10502 жыл бұрын
@@Alp-xe6ty Nah to be fair some men that do the catcalling are fucking nutty. Like the act of catcalling in of itself is annoying and at worse, degrading. But then you as the woman have to worry about this guy who wants your attention possibly following you home or to work, and who can snap if you tell them you're not interested in their attention. @@Alp-xe6ty good that you feel that way I guess but having 'nice tits' and other inappropriate remarks yelled at me by men before I was even a teenager is not okay. It is difficult for a lot of people to go through, it's uncomfortable, embarrassing, and rude. Sometimes scary depending on what the person is saying. Cat calling is not the same as flirting. Would any men who saw that happen to their sister, daughter, mother or girlfriend, really see that as playful banter or would they clock the catcaller in the face? @@xduwu4257 obviously everything has levels and what you deem as 'flirting' can be seen as sexual harassment to others. I'm not going to go into the very worst examples because I'd think it's pretty obvious that I'm not referring to extreme cases, these exist in pretty much every form of interaction we can have and are obviously not OK. You've immediately gone to talking about teenagers tits, again, clearly not what I'm referring to. It's not just how I feel, it's how plenty of women feel. I've been with them when they've had someone whistle or say something and they've openly taken it as a compliment. Again, so it's clear, I've now said multiple times it's inappropriate but not traumatic and sometimes, welcomed. And again. Obviously extreme examples exist and the situation will impact that but I'm not going to hit 20,000 words in explaining this, simply to avoid someone lazily strawmanning me. Bottom line is it isn't typically a traumatic experience. Some people are fragile and to them it will be, but so are lots of other things that people otherwise engage in with no issues at all.

Especially since Wanda has a history in comics of being unstable (Until she officially gets her children at least) and aggressive to those who gaslight her (Like when strange, professor x, ect... tell her that her kids aren't real) which he responses are killing/erasing them. Put that together with the hulk and may the universe pray for forgiveness

I still remembered the chilling in my spine when Bruce, with his low, calm voice, talked about how he tried to kill himself but the "other guy" didn't allow. To me, that means his life is no longer in his control. And is there any more tragic than "you can't control your own life" ? Sure, "cat-calling" and "mansplaining" are. What a pathetic show.

The way she talks about misogyny is just so inorganic that it really feels like it was written by a man who's heard women complain about it a few times and wanted to gain some points with a female audience.

it just plays into toxic feminism without diving all the way into it, jen saying she’s spent her whole life controlling her anger more pretty much “invalidated hulks entire life” off an assumption that he’s lived the same life as her.

No, it's a pretty spot on replication of women complaining about the infamous misogyny and patriarchy they face every second of their life.

Yeah, but the thing is no man or woman in the right mind would write this lol.

@@mtithewoodentank4817 Listen, I'm a woman and shit, and while I do suffer from these unfortunate prejudices even indirectly - I'm interested in computers and it's mostly a male-dominant field of expertise, and sometimes I feel like I'm just the exception; it feels kinda lonely whatever - I wouldn't say I shoehorn this suffering on other people. Like yeah, I'm afraid everytime I go out alone because my country is one of the countries that murders the most women - thanks Brazil; if someone came to me and said "hey man i have literal ptsd from being an experiment and if i lose control i will kill people lmao" I wouldn't go saying I have it worse. Fear and trauma ain't things to compare, we just sorta feel them. The fact that Jen is using hers to be "better" than the Hulk is just not the way to talk about whatever fear was installed into my software by society

Bruce had to adjust to being the Hulk all by himself, that is hard enough, Jennifer doesn't know how lucky she was to have someone there to explain everything to her, mentor her to manage her new powers.

24:24 It's so weird because in the Comics from what I remember She Hulk allowed Jen to be more confident (Her main struggle compared to the rage Bruce dealt with). It's a big part of the reason she chooses to remain as She Hulk most of the time. I feel like that would still work within the confines of "THE MESSAGE tm", but then I remember that Modern Female Characters cannot be portrayed as having any character flaws (Intentional characters flaws, plenty of unintentional ones) unless its something like "Oh, I'm TOO perfect".

Yes. That makes it SOO relatable for young girls too. You struggle with something and don't master it immediately? Sucks to be you. You will never see that represented anymore because Hollywood decided women can't have flaws for some reason. It might hurt their delicate feelings.

I love how you made mention of “THE MESSAGE”. And with that, the legend of The Critical Drinker grows.
