Wow surprising that two men in 2020 understand so little of women's characters, which are just some women's life reality. I mean sadly a lot of this stuff, the characters and motivations are just sth. in many women's lifes or you see or live through yourself. Like Thelma shows exactly a woman who doesn't have enough self esteem, doesn't actually know she's attractive to other men , that's why she immediately likes Harlan's attention. Pretty obvious to me.

It could be 2020, 3299 or 4768...no man will ever understand what it's like to be a woman. Any man who says otherwise is probably trying to sleep with you. What is the least surprising thing here is its 2020 and women can't take jokes about women...even fictional ones. Thanks for the comment!

Bianca, you are so right. This is a typical reaction from straight men who tend to react to feminist themes with a bit of anger and a lot of misunderstanding. There are plenty of men who do get it, but these two are absolutely CLUELESS. I remember when this movie first came out, men reacted with so much hate and ridicule. As you can see, not much has changed.

So sad that after 30 years... Misoginy is rampant... And yeah, is not only that "men don't understand women", is men ridiculing women... It's just so funny them saying "suicide is not the answer" 😂 it's a metaphor jezz... There's no solution to the real problem of the movie: women mistreatment and power inequality.. Such a dumb "Review", so funny how they think women empowerment is women with guns or shouting and winning... They don't get Thelma and Louise won in their way by not subjecting themselves to a corrupt system, they chose to die in their own terms, that's their Freedom. And that's an incredibly sad metaphor and for many women is not even a metaphor, like women who resist a rape risking their own lives. Such a Bad "Review", i Guess the world is full of plain people

Well, I guess I can forgive you for not understanding how abuse works, and how it can affect people. In the case of this movie - women, in particular. It sounds like you've never seen it in real life. How could it possibly make sense to you? Please try to understand, though, that just because you haven't experienced it, does not mean it doesn't exist for other people.

That's a fair assumption based on a 30 min comedy review of a 30 year old work of fiction... We guess, since you've been so magnanimous, that we can forgive you for being unable to distinguish a comedy show from a psychiatric podcast. Thank you so much for commenting...

@@KisstheReviews Are you guys for real? This is a movie about a woman who was almost raped and it's obvious that Louise's character had been raped. If some of your jokes fall flat maybe, just MAYBE that's because they weren't funny. But no, it's obviously someone else's fault.

Well, me personally, I enjoy this movie. In fact it may be time for me to revisit the magic of it.😄 But I'm not one to overthink plots or details that much. I can watch movies simply at face value and not worry a great deal about plot holes or overt realism. That being said, allow me to go deep just this once and offer a view that may help us all to agree that not everything in movies or in real life is always so black and white. Instead of looking at this from the angle of whether this would have been better as a court room drama rather than a road movie (and let's face it, the writer wasn't interested in writing a court room drama, she had her mind set on a story about two women on the run. If you want to watch Primal Fear, let's just go and watch your review for that one) let's consider the idea that this story is really just a flat out tragedy. We know based on something that the character of Hal said, was that he was on the side of these two women. He ultimately knew that what happened in that parking lot wasn't their fault. He wanted to help them so that maybe they didn't have to go to prison and give up a ton of their freedom. JD complicated that plan to get Thelma and Louise to possibly allow Hal to advocate for them in their case. Whether you realize it or not, the reality is that rape victims have been dragged through the mud in court rooms as some sleazy attorney seeks to get his rapist client off the hook. They are often shamed in lesser ways after an assault. And a rapist may in fact get away with the crime due to some legal technicality. The American justice system is flawed, let's not lie to ourselves about that. The tragedy is, that justified in that belief or not, Louise believed enough (based on her own experience in the past) that she and Thelma were not going to get a fair break if they put their trust in the system. She knew in her heart that at the very least Thelma would be victim shamed and seen as totally at fault for what had happened to her and Louise was going to prison and her life would be over. Had she known that Hal was determined to make sure they were vindicated for what happened to Harlan, yes, the story could have ended far less tragically for all involved.

A lot to unpack here. Based on our other comments and lives, we’re well aware of the reality of rape. Some explain it more condescending than others, but we’re aware. Based on your logic, they should have stopped making courtroom movies after 12 Angry Men, there can be a movie where all of the reality you pointed out comes to fruition on screen, making a much more realistic film…as opposed to our heroes committing suicide and allowing their story to be told by a bunch of men. Defeats everything that took place. Just my opinion though. Thanks for commenting.

As someone who was raped in 1989 I absolutely hated this movie. It's 99.99% misandry and Thelmas character was stupid af. Louise was not much better. She's definitely guilty of murder. It wasn't self defense for anyone at that point.

This is a buddy road trip movie meant to dazzle the viewers with scenery and car chases, just with female leads as the bad-asses so a trial movie wouldn't make much sense. Plus you wouldn't have had the ending of them driving off the cliff which is what most people remember about this film anyways.

@@KisstheReviews they literally had seemingly hundreds of troopers with guns pointed at them and were either going to be gunned down or put away for life, you act like they had a ton going for them lol. @@KisstheReviews Also i don't think the courtroom idea works because louise shot the guy in backwoods Arkansas, a location where a jury probably wouldn't be too understanding. No-one would have wanted see them get convicted, that would be a horrible film.
