If all other numbers stayed the same, yes that would be pretty long, but combined with the steeper seat tube angle, it doesn’t feel stretched out at all when climbing. It’s really informative to look at all the geo changes as a whole, because they add up to a better climbing *and* better descending bike.

Elevated chain stay or unified swing arm designs avoid the notoriously tight gap between the tire and chaining, which the addition of a motor makes even more complicated. Any bike with significant tire clearance has to go through ridiculous contortions to fit the chain stay in there, and this method just makes the problem go away. Also interesting: That clearance issue, and stiffening the chain stay, were the justifications for bumping out the chain line on the new swing arm versions of the ripely and ripmo, which is ok according to the drive train makers, but still less than ideal. I would love to see the eventual next gen 'naturally aspirated' ibis bikes go elevated chain stay as well once their team has a chance to dedicate some serious R&D time to them.

Regen braking would require your pedals to move since the motor is in the BB, so I don’t think it’s coming. Hub-based motors have had regen braking, but it tended to be too aggressive a force so it’s not done. Plus, hub motors are no good for MTBs
@h82fail
@h82fail Жыл бұрын
@@WesMacaulay Would require the chainring to keep turning, but technically the pedals and chainring could be independent / just like they are on a gearbox bike like the Pinion (shaft in a shaft kind of thing). Agree about not wanting auto regen, or even it blended with the regular brakes - same reason lots of the electric hyper-cars disable regen in track mode. They don't want one pedal doing two things, its unpredictable and doesn't feel good. If it could easily be added without much weight, do it but give me another lever or button to activate it with - Chevy Volt style.

Im worried your "average" e Bike- will rut out trails using turbo mode on the way up. e-Bikes on natural single track just is not cool. Maybe on groomed flow trails that are 100% downhill and pedal back up on fire roads, but the heft of these bikes (50+ pounds...25 kg's ) is just undeniably immense, its an electric motorcycle. I agree, technology is cool and may give those with some aging joints or health issues a pass back into cycling.
