In march 2022 I was in SF and went to Lost Coast Outfitters and talk to Steve Adachi, he told me about surf fishing with a fly rod... By that time I couldn't figure it out what he was talking until now. Great video. All the best to Steve, he is a cool dude.

Have often gone for a walk by Half Moon Bay. Never imagined anybody would fly fish that place. It is a beautiful place for sure.

2022 was my year for surf fly fishing, I caught tons of surf perch, unfortunately no striped bass. It was my weekly gym. I feel really sad that I haven't been able to go out to the beach because of the floods and crazy tides this past month.

keep casting with your Clouser flies, you'll get one this summer!

As an avid surfer and fisherman… the two mix perfectly as my wave knowledge and closeness to the ocean makes for catching a verity of species from shore quite simple. That said, targeting striper specifically ( especially down here in Southern California ) can be quite difficult! But, we have em, and they can get huge! 🎣

Well done! Stripe bass is a ton of fun to fish on a fly. Also respect for our ocean is so critical. We don’t get many, but we do get an occasional stripe bass in SoCal. Peace.

You are so right back in the early 80s I remember big stripers 20lb and up we would limit out of them on the charter boat in the surf. Those days are gone.

This question is from an avid fly fisherman gents. Did I hear you say you guys are using sinking line? I fished San Diego, North county up to Malibu but always used floating line with a 7' tippet. I had intermediate and fast sinking line but never used it. Used a 7weight and 9 weight rod. Can I get your thoughts on why sinking line? knowledge is key. great video. Miss so Cal surf fishing. You guys ever get out to East Texas, give me a holler. Love it here in the Gulf Coast. Great fly fishing. best of luck and thank you.

Sad back in the early 80s there big 20lb stripers in san Francisco Bay and beachs. Those days are gone. Same way with the king salmon.

That looks like serious fun. Im CA born n raised. Been fishing, surfing, diving, yakking, boating, n spearfishing since the early 80's. Not sure quite why but my Cali surf' fishing experiences boil down to getting hit in the junk by waves, catching literally tons of kelp n eel grass, kicking sting rays, and occasionally catching small surf perch. Maybe i need to give it another go.

Anyone know the make and type of rods they are using for this style
@LostcoastoutfittersSfFlyshop Жыл бұрын
We are using lost coast outfitters rods, ocean beach and golden gate rods

They look like switch or spey rods. Probably 11 to 12 foot 7 or 8 weight? Tight lines

You guys are "brave" fishing the surf with regular waders and no PFDs. Where that older gentleman fell while catching that striper seems to be in front of a rip current. (That is where the fish come in and out to surf anyway) If he falls like that little deeper, the first opportunity he gets to look around, he will realize he is at least 50 yards out. You need a wetsuit and a PFD to support you at least 45 minutes in that water. Regarding the stripers, clean water etc. SF Bay is already doomed by mercury and lead from hydraulic mining more than hundred years ago. I support clean water for looks but we all know that SF Bay will have a toxic bottom for at least another one hundred years.

While conservation efforts are important… why would you advocate for an invasive fish 😂 only in California….
@decapfish4714 Жыл бұрын
Not invasive striped bass in California is an introduced species...
@camtaylor198911 ай бұрын
Because they fight like a train on the fly. We gotta just enjoy it while we can
@ryanschembri41395 ай бұрын
salmon and steelhead are dwindling every year, stripers are way better game fish and they will be here long after native species all but vanish
