True story. When I was seven years old my family left war-torn Iraq and moved to the USA. When we moved there I barely knew English and hadn't even finished learning Arabic yet. This was the first band that the American family that allowed us to stay with them showed us. I remember listening to "Ho-Hey" in their car when I was 7 years old. The first time I heard it, it was a bright, snowy, very cold day. This takes me back :) .

@nothingnew63603 жыл бұрын
Guys the cinematography and words are the key for your nostalgia. - The stage where the singer is singing, detaches himself from present, and in thoughts he goes back. Showing detachment and being lost in one's thought. - The backside lane is the place we are most familiar with in the childhood, playing and running. - Unknowingly or subconsciously we also see rainy weather which shows our joy and the time when we just enjoy weather. - He kicked the water collected which we all did. - The boat(old) which we see in the yard also triggers some deep hidden thoughts.(Here most will be in state of confusion, why they are feeling so emotional). - "Got a little pay check" line also triggers the first achievement memory and happiness by the little pleasure. - Then he comes in much wider space which shows, your entry to world and you start feeling bit lonely and small. - Then he walks on street and a man watching him from the window shows that people see you. - At last he becomes a bit crazy and starts to dance in middle of the road, thats when you feel a bit joyous and fearful that a car might not hit. - And the car flashes and he comes back to real life. The song defining Ophelia and scenes are so well aligned that this will surely make you a bit emotional. The more you hear, the more you get emotional with the song

Ophelia is one of the prominent characters in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. She was in love with Hamlet who was heir to the throne of Denmark, and in certain situations Hamlet reciprocated. Nonetheless, Ophelia’s father and brother warned her to stay away of Hamlet in order to guard her childlike innocence. Eventually, Hamlet takes Ophelia’s virginity and kills her father, leading her to take her own life despite the fact her family claims she “fell off of a willow branch”. Her death is considered one of the most poetic in play history as even though the entirety of her life was dictated by the men around her, her own suicide was her one chance to have a say in her own life, even though it meant ending it. Some critics say that Ophelia was a innocent girl, taken advantage of by those around her, but fail take into account situations in the play where she displayed cleverness and wits. On the other hand, some consider her a conniving harlot, only taking into account her cleverness but neglecting the many times she was naive and innocent. In either interpretation, the audience is dictating who Ophelia is to them, just as the men in the play did. But in the end, Ophelia will forever remain one of the most tragic and neutral characters of plays, doomed to never find love and forever be controlled by others, an amazing symbolization of femininity.

Totally Twila Thank you :) it does confuse me as to why people are always saying “can’t wait to find my Ophelia” though given the actual story of Hamlet lmao

Please vaccinate your kids Oh, I didn’t realize! What interview did they mention that in? When I was researching the song they only mentioned that the song was named after Ophelia from Hamlet as a metaphor for falling in love with the idea of fame.
@squeegeeandcrew86194 жыл бұрын
it’s sad to think about the context of who ophelia in this song really is... she’s a character in hamlet who killed herself in a flood (drowning,) & hamlet finally realizes he loves her after it’s too late *lmao i know they didn’t name ophelia by the character from the play, but it still plays.*
@glowingeyes10824 жыл бұрын
there’s also another theory that the song is about money the name Ophelia referring to money often why he refers to her as a “he”. Many think the song is about him falling in love with money and how it’s a foolish thing to do.
@squeegeeandcrew86194 жыл бұрын

@@glowingeyes1082 well both of what you two said is false and they actually said that the part about the flood in the chorus is they chose ophelia as a name cuz it fitted the song and then they tought it would be cool to slip in a reference to hamlet in there they didnt put more meaning behind that and they said that they didnt have money in mind when they made the song but its a good life lesson ppl can take from it

I love how the videoclips all connect together, but are time incoherent as well. Makes you realize that it doesn't matter whether it's 2020, 2000 or 1980 - people are solving the same problems, with the same heartache, pain, happiness and love. We stand at crossroads in our lives, seemingly minor ones, just like the generations before us did. It's sad and calming, connecting, at the same time.

It stayed in my head for years and years, and eventually I started singing the lyrics that I thought I heard to the melody of this song that I hummed. Only recently had I rediscovered this song, and the nostalgia was crazy. Never had I experienced something that had brought back that much of my childhood to me. Ophelia was the character controlled by the men in her life, taking control of her life by killing herself by DROWNING. This entire video: shows boats, rain, and water. Lyrics: "Oh ophelia you've been on my mind ever since the flood." This video showed so much imagery behind the character it was based off of and it really showed that. I really love that :)
