I remember going into White Flint as a kid and marveling at how upscale and glamorous it was, so sad to know it's gone, like so many other "ghosts" of the past.

This place was heaven to go to as a kid. Anybody remember the Discovery Zone, KB toys, Glow in the dark store or Dave and Busters??? So crazy to think all that awesomeness existed under one roof at one time. R.I.P. White Flint Mall, thank you for the irreplaceable memories.

Wow!!! Thanks for filming this! I am a Montgomery Mall guy through and through when I grew up there but this mall is a part of the fabric back home and this video REALLY makes me sad! As I watched, I kept visualizing when my family would walk around the places you filmed! Ohhhhh.... there is no way to tell you how I felt watching this because my dad died years ago and we now live in Kansas where, there are no real malls unless you go to Topeka! Ever since we moved away from there, I always long for the days of when we would spend all day Saturday hanging out at those malls! Ohhh, I nearly get the chills thinking about how we went to those malls all the time, and now, we don't go to any! Sad...very sad!!

When Montgomery Mall started their upscale renovations which added Norstrom's that was the beginning of the end for White Flint, IMO.

I grew up going to White Flint Mall. 1970’s and 80’s. I vividly remember going to The Eatery for lunch and the movie theatre that was there.

White flint mall was a beautiful mall did not deserve to be torn down I feel like it was done in the dark in one night like when the Colts left Baltimore. I know they were going to try to redevelop that area but they could’ve just left the mall and built housing around it. I’m glad Lord and Taylor stuck it out and I’m sorry that they are out of business. I remember that glass elevator I felt like I was in Star Wars riding it.

I remember as a kid going to Dave and Busters and Discovery Zone at this mall. I bought so many PS2 games here because it was walking distance from my house. I'm glad we still have Montgomery Mall, I guess, but if we could only have one, I really wish it would've been White Flint. Nordstrom could've taken Borders' spot lol.

I remember when this mall was vibrant and the place to be! I remember even when IMAGNIN was still in the mall and there wasn't even a food court there!!!!! This place looks so sad and depressing!!!!! It breaks my heart to see what has happened here! First Ted Lerner had his Landover Mall, NOW THIS! :(.

I remember when this mall was a big deal. I would go to the Cheesecake Factory and then to a coffee shop around the corner. Shop at Hallmark. And there was always a fight for parking

I went to school at College Park in the late 90s and visited White Flint almost every weekend. Loved the big two story Borders there. So sorry to see it's gone now - I wish I'd had a chance to go back and visit before it was demolished, but I didn't find out it was shut down until several years later. Thanks for uploading this!

It was weird seeing the shell of what once was Borders. I worked there for 12 years and closed the place down. Had no idea our Paperchase sign and info desk were still there. Wish I was allowed in one last time to look around. Such a nice mall, it's a shame it'll be torn down. Sad.

I know that malls usually do well in the DC area. White Flint was doing fine until Borders closed in 2011, and then Bloomingdales in 2012. I saw an elevator video from 2008, and the parking lot was packed! It declined very quickly. The mall owners probably didn’t let stores renew their leases after Bloomingdales left. The mall probably went from like 90% occupancy in 2011 to 10% occupancy by early 2014. I do know that the food court had been nearly empty for at least a decade because it was hidden behind the main corridor. I also know that the mall was bad with replacing major national chains that had left. For example, an Eddie Bauer store that had been closed since around 2005 was never replaced by a major chain. Neither was KB Toys, Sharper Image, or Johnston & Murphy, who all closed in mid-late 2000s. They were filled by local businesses. That isn’t bad, but it probably made the mall seem less upscale than it originally was.

I know. I'm really sad about that. It appeared to be open when I was there on 1/20/2014. I made a plan with a family member to go see a movie there this Friday. I use to spend a lot of time at the mall and at the theater. I felt like if we went to see one more movie, it would be a way of shutting the door for me. We were going in just a couple days. Last night I was looking for showtimes and learned that the day I was there may have been the last day for the theater. There no signs or anything.

Funny how some ,alls thrive and some fail! Here isn Edmonton, we have some major malls doing really well. West Edmonton Mall, Southgate, Kingsway...City Centre is doing ok, Northgaet not so much, the have room for 5 fast food restaurant, they have 3, Wa;-Mart just moved in which could make or break the mall. Nit sure what is happening with the Safeway...yet. Lots os store space for rent. Capilano Mall is in worse shape. The have Wal-Mart at one end and Safeway at the other, most stores inside are gone and only 2 fast food restaurant s where they have room for 6, Pity really!
@TheLyon30110 жыл бұрын
Plenty are thriving, but the owners of this one decided a long time ago they wanted to make a drastic change to the area. The Lerners are big, big, big time realestate people around here. So several years ago they started letting/encouraging people to leave the mall.

@@icecreamforcrowhurst this was around 1999 to 2001. He was paranoid about gay men so maybe he saw "gay" where it wasn't. It was like gay men were drawn to him. He was "metrosexual", so yeah, gay men might be drawn to you if you "act gay" fashionwise. He loved shopping for shoes and clothes.
