I have no personal experience, but I watch a lot of videos and read the comments and stuff and I remember hearing and reading that the Intuition liners do need wearing in, but after you get through that initial period that they are great liners. Hopefully yours get comfortable soon. Great video, keep it up.

@@ThirtyandRollin I commented on another of Law's videos about getting kicked out of the last skate park I tried to visit about a month ago. Cop on a bike rolled up and scattered the few of us there, literally right as I finished putting my skates on. Here in norcal, we took shit srsly from the get go. That definitely motivated me to finish my practice rail, and yeah, I've been looking for spots to set it up. Found a parking lot with nice smooth asphalt and a couple traffic cones I can setup to expand my personal impromptu pandemic skate park.

I had a lot of the same issues as you when I got my intuition V2s about 5 months ago, but they all went away after break-in. They will stretch and compress lengthwise, and the heelpad will compress and get less tall and squishy. I added an insole under the liner and heelpad as well which helps with shock and just filling the boot out a little extra. And I don't know if this is superstition, but I never heat molded mine because I heard it's better to break them in the "hard" way. All I know is they feel great now!

I soooooo strongly recommend heat molding intuitions. I've not used the version that comes in THEMs, but i heat mold any time I change my V2s between skates and it honestly makes all the difference. For your toe issue, i recommend trying to make a toe cap of sorts. Either- Cut the toe-end off a thick pair of socks and tape it to the end of your socks you wear to heat mould. Or Make a cap out of some kitchen roll and gaffer tape. Basically, try to heat mold with a couple of milimeters added to your toes to free up some space.

@@jacobs6456 You say that like heat moulding is a time consuming and complicated process or something... 😁 Just because something is more expensive, that doesn't mean it will work perfectly out of the box. Sometimes you pay extra not just for the quality, design etc. but so you get the ability to tinker with the product so you can dial everything in perfectly (and that's true for tons of things, think adjustable suspension for a car or something). Some speed skaters and ice skaters will have custom skates made for their foot. That's a bit more money, time and work... If the stock liners work for you and you don't want anything more, then save your money and enjoy skating them. 💪 We're all different.

Stick with the intuition liners. They will give you the space you want. I think it took me about 3-4 hours of skating in them to notice a difference and many more hours after for them to be fully fitted to me. Note I did not heat mold. You mentioned the cuff felt stiff and that you might try the lower setting. I believe Kyle Sola said in interviews that the low setting would be stiffer, but I could be wrong. I am curious to hear more about those two settings compared.

Thanks for the reviews as always! It seems like sizing is one of the only big drawbacks to this beautiful skate. I'm a size 9, about 260mm.. If I bought 909's I would go for the small shell and use a thin liner.. But after seeing so many people selling them because the shell was too tight for them to downsize, or upsizing was too loose, I'm pretty hesitant. I know it will be a while before you do a review of these skates with a different liner, but I'd love to hear how they feel for you with your Reign V3's when you get a chance! The V3's made my Aeons fit perfectly when the stock liners were too tight around the toes. I'm curious if they have the same effect in the 909. I love the Aeons, but I would like to have a ufs boot as well, so I can slap on some of those red 50/50 frames and have an antirocker set up.
@BacktoBlading

If it helps, I bought the 908 blue with intuition liners and my foot measures 255 mm. When I first wore the setup, my toes went numb within 30 minutes. It took about 4 hours of skating to feel them start to really break in, now i have more wiggle room for my toes than i expected, but think they fit great. The break in was pretty brutal and I wore the thinnest socks I could find but now I feel like it was worth it.
@HollyBoni
@HollyBoni 4 жыл бұрын
260mm is more like an 8, but sizing is so all over the place that it's irrelevant. I think at 260mm the smalls would be a very good fit. People who find the smalls too small and the mediums a bit too roomy are usually in the ~275mm range. A lot of skates lack a "true" 9.5-10-ish shell. In this range you usually you either get boats that are more like an 11, or something that's too small.

My foot is just a bit smaller than yours, but I hit the end of the THEM intuition liner with my toe, and my right toe always hits the end of a V2 intuition liner in an SX boot. I have always had good luck with just skating a few sessions in the intuitions to get the space. They pack out on their own sooner than you might imagine. This is the same thing everyone says about every liner. But, I really think you will pack that out without heat molding. Good luck with or without heat molding, and without the heel shock.

I believe they purposely made the cuff stiffer, because the 908's had a tendency to bend too far off the boot during royales. I'm sure the liner will break in after a few sessions. The only major issue seems to be heel lift for you, so I'd just take it out and add a full insole.

I had Intuition V2 liners some time ago and my opinion was that they were too short for there width and height (or too wide and heigh for their length). In a Small I had the snugg fit I would expect from them, but they were too short. The Medium had the right length, but felt too roomy. I also didn't like that they make a lot of noice in plastic shells. How is the noice with those 909/Intuitions ?

Get a pair of Superfeet Hockey comfort insoles. I have a pair in both my 908s and 909s. Get the size 10-12 or larger then your medium boot. I wear a medium boot size as well for reference. You can trim down the superfeet insoles to fit under liner between boot. I do that and I remove the heel pad on both my v2 intuitions in my 908s and my new Them intuitions in my 909s. Really actually helps with responsiveness as well as a much softer footbed to land on.

I'm looking forward to your final review after you break them in and skate them for awhile. I'm considering the 909s for my next boot. I'm hesitant though, because I've been skating nothing but K2 for years now. To give you a history of the aggressive skates I've had over the years: 1) Rollerblade Tarmac CE (2nd Gen; 1995 - 1997); 2. K2 Fatty Pro (2nd Gen; 1997 - 1998); 3. K2 Style Points Bob (1998 - 2000; 2011 - 2012 -- I came back to blading after an 11 year break); 4. K2 Varsity Pro (2012 - current). In your opinion, do you think I'd like the 909 as a K2 fan, or hate them? I'm definitely looking to switch from K2, as I'm not really thrilled with what I've seen them put out since the 2012 Varsity, but not sure what brand I should go with. I've considered the Roces M12s in addition to Them 909s. Keep in mind that I will not be able to afford those fancy Intuition liners and will just be going with whatever stock liner the boot comes with. I've been riding GC Featherlite frames (anti-rocker) on the Varsity.

Don’t heat mold them by putting a bag of rice in them... you want the liner to mold to your toes and shape of your foot. This is what they are literally designed for. Once you put them in the oven for 10 mins at 150 degrees, the foam becomes like a gel. Put them on, lace the skate as tight as you can and stand in them for 15 mins. As the liner cools, the foam becomes rigid again but around the shape of your foot. Makes a HUGE difference.

I’ve only had a few solo 7am sessions in my life and they were all incredible. Might have to make this a part of my new routine! I have a love/hate relationship with Intuition liners. They’re genuinely great liners but they’re way too thick(for me anyway). And now even thicker for the 908/909. I’ve been skating the standard v1/2 Intuitions for years but mostly for fitness skating. The beauty of these liners is that if they’re not perfect after the first session you can totally skip the break in process by heat molding them. 200° in the oven for 15 mins, put them in your skates, put them on and lace everything tight for 20 minutes and you’ve skipped a month of work. The rice/sock method doesn’t do nearly enough in my experience. As you’ve said, the heel pads have to go for a raised heel boot. I use Superfeet insoles in mine as they’re super thin. I find that they help me feel more stable and are more supportive and reactive. I used to always skate with my buckles as tight as they would go until someone pointed out that there’s nothing wrong with loosening them a few notches. This idea opened up my whole vocabulary. And now with super supportive liners that lace up it’s no longer risky. Try loosening up a bit for those groove and topside tricks. 😉

The Intuition foam underneath the foot is really thick, after heatmolding and breaking in it can help wrap around your foot from underneath. When you use an insole inside the Intuition liner, this effect won't happen. On the contrary, when using an insole underneath the liner, then I guess you have to lose the shock absorber. I don't think you can put an insole underneath the shockabsorber, It should be directly under the liner. So pros and cons I guess. I might prefer the Intuition liner with shock absorber, so I might put an insole inside the liner (and lose the wrapped feeling from underneath), this also makes the Intuition liner sit deeper inside the boot I would think, which would look more aesthatically pleasing.

I don't think either skate is better or worse than the other, they're different. Both the Aeons and 909s have their advantages and disadvantages (and a lot of that is personal preference). But the most important thing by far is fit, so skate whatever fits your specific foot the best. This is why I personally don't really like comparing skates, or even recommending skates to other people... 🙃

The thing is the Sways accept trinity frames because they're basically a normal aggressive boot, with a trinity adapter instead of the soulplate. The Next is a boot directly built for trinity mounting. So, while you could take those adapters and convert certain other aggressive boots to accept trinity frames, you can't do the opposite with a trinity boot.

Yep, he knows what style of skate he likes. Better fit for me than the m12 though.

Of course I'm far from an expert, but Law, knowing you a little about your skating and reviewing routines, I think you'd benefit from trying the heatmolding path if you're having issues. As far as I understand, the absolute ideal would be breaking those liners in the hard and slow way, by just wearing and skating them for hours and hours and hours... I guess that's the least aggressive method for the liner's long term integrity and durability, and probably the most precise to fit your feet perfectly. But, if you're really uncomfortable through that process, given that you don't really have a lot of time to skate, always have other skates and stuff to review... If you're still uncomfortable after a couple of sessions, I think directly heatmolding them would make the whole experience more enjoyable for you, by taking an issue away from the start. That way you could focus on all the other customisation options of these skates and truly enjoy all the process. I don't think you'll be using those liners to waste ever anyway, they should last you forever, heatmolding or not 😉

I’ll give it one last try, then heat mold. Thanks for the concern. :)

Anyone remember how odd K2 skates felt at first? As if you were falling backwards.

Outside of letting them adjust to you naturally, just use a hairdryer on the heat setting and blast the toes for a bit and walk around your house to stretch them out. So much less risk than throwing them in the oven, fuck that.
