razors Flat changed the game with with the sole/backslide plate components. its still basically the same skate today with the cults. (as far as sole tricks and boot tricks)

Woulda been sick to hear about the different materials used over time. The CDS detroit heel plate mods on M12's, rb lightnings, dirks and oxygen heel fins back in the day. Also the oxygens having metal tabs then moving to the little plastic ones and using UHMW plastic. Then salomons being so fast because they used uhmw on their little stock original soleplates, then the widebody was like nylon or something like that. then on razors they used uhmw on the stockwell pro boots i think they were gen boots. Also it woulda been really cool if you talked a little about deshi and how they could use different soles like usd two pieces which kinda inspired a lot of the boots out now like carbons and seba boots.

Great video, thank you! Razor shift souls are probability the best imo. I wouldn't say that the AEON is the future. Out of the box the AEON has the slowest soul plate of the market, nothing can be swapped, fitting is weird and the built quality is not good. I think Razors is way better overall.
@Ultrakillerism3 жыл бұрын
It is true that the Aeons are a mish-mash of dubious choices: hard shell and frame is the same piece (so no modding unless you want to spend $100 for another Aeon shell), the setup is flat which, even with the custom frame that has a big H-block, it is still less forgiving than antirocker, and overall the Aeons give me this vibe of planned obsolescence, where once something happens you're better off buying another pair. Sure, our sport is severely lacking in the low-end market (think Walmart brand) that absorbs a lot of people into the more expensive but much better-built market, and we kinda need it in order to absorb the younger crowd into our sport; we can't compete price-wise with the scooter crowd and not even the skateboard crowd, we're the most expensive urban trick sport there is.

@@Ultrakillerism dude yeah my first aggressive inline skates where given to me by a family friend. That was an expensive hobby for kids. Like if you got the wrong sized boot. You're fkd till Christmas /birthday time. Soo expensive.

Ha ha this took me back to the 90´s ! I had exactly this Razors Impact 200 Skates ! But I missed in the Video the CDS Detroit Soul Plates that everyone screwed on his Majestic 12 XD

Skates not soposed to grind on. My first skates were the rollerblade spirit from the 90s, which were fitness skates😅. i made 50/50s, soulgrind and made my first tries of doing fishbones on them. I was a very broke teen, and so i used everything i was able to get my hands on. I even used the inner plastic core if an worn out cheap plastic wheel, peeled of the outer plastic, to have smaller inside wheels as anti rocker. But i broke the skates by locking them into an over/ topside position to often.

First grind on inlines maybe but people where grinding quads well before that. Really interesting content thanks for sharing.

The Aeon being all in one makes it lighter as well. The downside is the slow soul area and the fact that you grind through the boot eventually. The solution is some Sliqx plates. Now they are fast and serviceable.

This was great! Even I learnt something new. I would say that the Roces 5th Element was basically the first skate model to have accomplished Backslide plates/grooves/cups. A lot of skates have also gotten weaker somehow. Companies trying to take short-cuts. Most people will say that any pair of Razors will slide the best/fastest.

Right now I’m skating 3 different setups. M12 with symetric frames ( had oysi 72s before), Salomon modded with usd carbon souls and k2 unnatural frames, usd aeon 72s. I’m one on the lucky few who never had a problem with aeon sliding speed, my fav between all the setups in the m12 with symetric, they slide a lot fast, the plate has a perfect groove for me, and the tiny soul keeps me locked in on everywhere. Large souls touch the ground on turns and they make the skate too wide for my taste, and that’s a thing I don’t like on the modded Salomon. Not saying anything about the aeon as the 72s are very technical in my opinion, but had 4 pairs of 60s before, and they are incredible if you can fit them.

I had Solomon’s as a kid in the early 2000s. I know those skates worked for me then. Dropped off skating for a long time. Then had some K2s in the 2010s, but I don’t think they were for me, because I didn’t really stick with it. Might have been other factors to. Kinda want to get back into it, now in my 30s! Can’t really figure out why everyone doesn’t like Solomon so much, that’s been odd to navigate while I look for a new brand. I am leaning toward Aeon 72s, but then there are these THEM skates that maybe worth trying too? Don’t know. Need to find a local skate shop I guess, but not sure if they even exists!

I really liked the soulplates of my old razors genyses 9! With the little dimples in it which collected a lot of wax, always a smooth ride 😎. Got the usd aeon 60 now. Great skate, but miss the old soulplates from the razors…

Pretty sure the first rec rollerblades he was talking about from Dare to Air were RB lightnings. Cause then after that was the Tarmac, Boxcars,Troopers and Chocolates. Tarmacs had the long three channels metal grind plates stock and a heel crank strap.

When it comes to sliding I prefer razors skates the most. Especially the SL and the Shift.

Am I right in thinking razors has the patent on the removable backslide plate? Only the remz skate which is under sunshine has the same design. Otherwise it’s built into the boot or the soul plate of every other skate. Also great video, that OUT skate was minty!

The 50/50 Prime frame gives designers the ability to push the middle wheels out more toward the ends because you leave the core mounted to the boot with UFS bolts and swap the frames by removing the front and rear wheels. So you get the Aeon groove width with the maintainability of a UFS skate. Plus you get some interesting design possibilities since the frame walls are 3D printed. There is a KZbin channel called District where they tried like 5 or 6 different sole plates back to back. They seemed to think the Faction Tactical V1/Stealth sole plates and the Seba Street sole plates were the fastest. Back in the day I had some Rollerblade Chris Edwards Tarmacs that I installed CDS Detroit sole plates onto. Later I also tried the sole plate that was held on by the axle bolts that came on the Rollerblade Troopers/Chocolates. That sole plate kinda sucked. After that I bought a pair of the original Roces 5th Elements where the frame and sole plate was all one piece. I got older, fat, and lazy and quit skating. Fast forward 20 years, and I want to get back into it. So I've been doing a ton of research. Things have changed big time!

It's so weird talking about the widebodies being too wide. These days the Adapt / Symmetrics soulplates I have on my Carbons are as wide as the widebodies on my Vinny Minton widebodies.

Also if you went into the xsjado soles and the Razors SL and Gen boot customizable and inter changeable soles.......oh and almost forgot USD tumor plates and those failed adjustable usd plates on those skates only Demetrious george skated that were a million pieces and heavy as bricks...cant remember the name of them now but they were like transformer snowboard boots.......the Legacy boots. thats what theyre called.....things were a good idea on paper but in real life they were horrible. Less is more sometimes lol

For me my USD vII and Sway soul plates slide the best. Then my Remz, Roces M12 and then USD carbon souls are just painfully slow.
