I haven’t watched to the end. I already know what you’re going to say. Let me guess. Your letter is about taxing your electric car. Well you shouldn’t be surprised. In fact, your car is much heavier and therefore even more punishing on tarmac. What a lot of fuss.

@janetcutts7921 what did they lie about? The conservatives never once said that car tax for EV's would remain at zero. He and many others got in when the govt was offering zero tax, plus other incentives. And now, they have been told the gig is up and that they will be taxed just as the rest of us are. This guy does nothing but moan, and you lot are drawn in by it. If you say something often enough, your words will stick. And that's what he has been doing. He could have bought a far cheaper car but chose to buy a porsche. A replacement battery for his car is almost twice that of another leading EV car brand. The car itself was a minimum 30 grand more expensive, but so what! And then he moans and moans and moans about how much he has lost it the last 3 years (or however long he's had the car). But moaning because you are going to have to pay road tax, BIG DEAL!!!

When it came time for me to change my vehicle more and more of the cars had this deposit on them which I cant afford. However The brand new electric Nissan Leaf came with a homecharger + installation and a "Gift" of £1500. So i went for it. Now as long as you not doing alot of miles per week and you use it for school/shopping runs and you charge at home during off peak hours £7.50 to fully charge then its perfect BUT you go outside of those bounds then your F'd. It costs £20 to use a fast charge to get 80% and you'll need to stop upto 3 times if going from north to south Wales.

The charging problem would have been eased if, in the beginning any car could use ALL charging stations. Standardisation was a lesson learned in the INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. How come we didn’t catch on by now?

Battery as a service would make a whole more sense. Have mandated standards. Then your car can go for much longer.

@@ayedee6681 Yup fully charged/maintained battery packs automatically popped in and out of your car like an old VHS tape from something that looks like a petrol station forecourt would work. Really only works if the battery chemistry structure doesn't require liquid cooling. Some of the newer substrates can do this.

Because Elon Musk wanted all the EV pie for himself via Tesla and thought that Tesla would set the standard by first cornering the EV market and then make a bundle through licensing deals with other car companies to use Tesla's charging design. That evil scheme did not pan out and now the EV market is full of competing plug-in standards. In the end, if EV cars survive, all will eventually have to choose one common standard. Look at the computer communication bus wars for comparison.

The top 10 selling cars in Australia are Diesel and Petrol. Telsa are 25% down on last year and are now discounting model 3 and Y by $3000. Toyota and Ford are up 30% on 2023. HEVs out sell BEVs by 2 to 1. Now. The bubble has burst. . A mate bought a MG4 last years for over $40k, you can now buy one for $27990 on road. Diesel sales are up 10% year on year. People that wanted an EV have now got one. The other 90% of us don’t want them. Personally I see a use for small EV city run abouts for under $25k.

I've had a letter from Sport England about mandatory transport to be used in 15 minute cities. The only allowable form will be space hoppers! This will increase exercise, reduce pollution and be sustainable. Regards 70-year-old with back problems hehe!
