I used to play a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh, but a year or so ago, I finally quit, which I think was a good decision. Here's why.
If you want to buy cards off me, I’ll be updating this description with an eBay link so that people can buy stuff on eBay.

As someone who watched and played Yugioh from day 1, I could not handle when they started playing on motorcycles. Thats where both the card game and the series fell off for me. And Yugioh is a card game that is very, very much dependent on its anime series. I feel like this is where it went downhill for all long time fans.

When I returned to Yi-Gi-Oh, the only thing I really enjoyed was playing against AI, because I can actually create a deck I think might be interesting and make it work. Compared to playing against people where if you don't meta/countermeta-slave you pretty much get to watch someone juggle cards for a few minutes and instakill you.

not true tbh, i paid maybe 50 bucks for a speedroid core and was still able to get around 3 wins at 5 round tournaments and have fun. it’s not like every single deck is the super giga mega meta deck that costs 600 bucks and makes a ton of interruptions. it’s returning players who use their old decks and expect to do well that always complain about losing when they can build a half decent deck with less than 100 dollars
@Mr_Doughkage
@Mr_Doughkage Жыл бұрын
@@gremlin1634 link, synchro, xyz, and pendulum summonings absolutely killed off the enthusiasm most original players had for this game. Those instakill decks absolutely exist. People who encounter these tend to emulate those decks and perpetuate the problems. Because "if you can't beat em, join em" is the new unofficial slogan for this game. Old heads aren't always the issue. Impatient youngsters who can't even sit still for 20-30 minutes to play a card game tend to turn gold into shit on a regular basis. Yugioh is just one more casualty of their war on fun.

Sad to hear that you decided to quit playing Yu-Gi-Oh. That said, I totally understand why you quit playing this game and I honestly see a lot of those issues and how they can drive a lot of players away. It's such a multi-faceted problem and there's just no easy fix at this point. I can only hope things get better. Otherwise, I can see this game going away sooner rather than later. And that's coming from somebody who makes videos about it all the time as my livelihood! Also, thanks for giving me a cameo in this video! Much appreciated! 👊🏾

It really is heart breaking. I love strategy games, so of course I love Yugioh. Now the game isn't about who has the better strategy, it's all about who can negate more. I wanted to play a game and instead I end up watching someone summon 50 times and have 10 negates on the field, hand, and graveyard. Cool deck bro. You literally just laid out cards like you were at home by yourself. No game was played. Heart breaking noises...

Yugioh’s a weird 1 where the game is either 95% luck based or 95% skill based, there’s rarely an inbetween. For a lot of games you’re better off just saving yourself the 10-15 mins and instaquitting But yeah at this point the “game’s” just a chance for collectors to show off their rare cards to 1 another

Dude I wish I could have talked to you before you quit. The reason you kept loosing is because Your competing against meta. Dont do that. Tournaments are set up to win you bragging rights. Yugioh and Pokemon are similar. With Pokemon you can breed Pokemon for competitive play. Yugioh also has this. You can buy a meta deck that will be good for a week. But theres no point. With Yugioh. If you go against meta. Your gonna loose every time. You can still have fun but dont take this game so hard. You need to understand 2 things. The game can be expensive but it doesn't have to be. And the meta is a pain in the neck. Its like Whitney from Pokemon. Its only hard if you make it hard

I was in the same boat. Played yugioh when i was a freshman in high school years ago and it was fun. years later during my final year of college , found a place that has yugioh and other tcg's and to my surprise after people laughed at me bringing in a rubberband full of cards that i had, that the rules and plays have changed so much since. long story short it was too daunting to try to catch up on everything and everyone with their supped up decks with all kinds of effects and plays that seemingly chained together effortlessly. I was outclassed if it wasn't made clear enough. summer of 2018 after bringing an ancient gear deck that i made using 3 starter decks that kept bricking during a local tournament. Lost against SPYRALs due to so many effects and whatnot, and I think the most demoralizing moment for myself was getting OTK'ed by Zoodiacs twice in a row. They had a losers bracket but I decided that enough was enough, i wasn't having much fun at all and I just quietly packed up my decks, and left. I haven't played Ygo or anything related to the tcg since and honestly, I've been pretty happy with paintball for the most part and on occasions RC hobby racing.

Probably the most balanced way to play, buy a structure and a few boosters every once in a while. I don't trust the game with erratas and bans for the expensive stuff. 5:36 is why I never do tournaments too. I want to play 3-5 games in a couple of hours, not the whole day. I do recommend deckbuilders as the games are self-contained. To arms on Android is free and awesome.

You represented the cons of playing Yugioh tremendously well and this is why I'm happy I don't play at the moment as well. I always come back and know I will but it's mainly to try to win with an old deck and then I of course realize that old decks needs to rely on new support to be good and that's the only reason it's "good again". I also play for nostalgia i guess as well cause back in high school this was like one of the few games a bunch of my friends played that I liked a lot, but the meta just was too bad too many times and then my friends stopped playing so I pretty much have to resort to the local card shop and the closest card store is pretty toxic of a place. I used to be cool with the one employee until he told me not to sell cards in the store which would've been fine if everyone abided by that rule but there was this dude that was always there setting up shop at the tables that was not with the store and he also ripped people off. There were many others who sold cards too and the only reason I sold my cards was because no one wanted to make a trade or I needed bus fare to get home lol I wasn't making money by any means or stealing business believe me, most of my money went back into the store of supplies or cards. But yea overall Yugioh is pretty gross of a scene but the game itself can be fun and if you find the right people it can be a great time, but even then you'd need to deal with Konami's lack of competitive support and weird banlist choices.

In modern Yugioh, you can summon 3 blue eyes, an 8* XYZ, syncro, Link AND fusion your dragons into a bigger dragon... all in the same turn. For all the flaws of pokemon, there's no way to win in turn one. Yugioh is all about winning on your first turn now; you lose instantly if you clogged. @@billyp4352 you CANNOT win in one turn in HS. There' literally no possible way due to the mana mechanic. The few infinite dmg decks that have existed through the years have all been due to a combination of cards post turn 10. They are not very consistent because you can get rushed and killed quickly if you don't establish board control. Anyway, HS might not be completely balanced, but I can say with absolute certainty it's the MOST balanced of all popular card games. Especially since cards get nerffed and buffed all the time. HS is also the only card game with a large prize pool for championships. They try to be more balanced, because they are really trying hard to keep it as an e-sport and make money from there too. YGO business model is about selling more paper, that's why they powercreep every single set. In HS, many of the original cards are still viable, powercreep is slower.

@@mariosblago94 Oh, I never said anything about winning turn one. And the video I saw was like about maybe 1 or 2 years in to the games creation if that and there were a decent amount of decks showcased winning with broken combos mid-game. Idk why Blizz bailed on their old WoW card game in the first place. I will say HS seemed kinda fun at first but the app installation was the only thing free about it. My one friend spent a bit on it cause he started to enjoy it a lot so he had way better cards and we all got rolled. Granted we didn't play super long but I know I read every dang card I had and tried my best to shut him up and stop braggin lol. This was of course all for nothing cause the cards he had were just superior, really gave me a buy-to-win vibe after that and I just stuck to Yugioh and Pokemon TCG as my card games from then on.

The "purpose" of links was to bottle neck the extra deck to require new cards. They also made the summoning method as stupidly easy as possible so its literally impossible not to be able to splash these new cards into existing decks. It IS the link format because konami gutted the field and extra deck rules to make links more valuable. Its obvious as fucking day they intended to "slow down" the game by limiting extra deck monster to one zone. But because they wanted to shill links they made it so links where the only way to get more than one extra deck monster on the field at a time. So now the meta is just as fast as it was but now its all centered around links. Go figure.

Casual yugioh is some of the most fun shit ever . Competitive is just boring I came back to the game after a long long while and playing comp is just tedious since you'll run into the same few op decks over and over again that destroy you in the first few turns if you don't play the meta cards that cost a huge amount of money. Building a deck for casual is fairly cheap too, as you don't have to have every single expensive card to have fun with your friends, for example I put together a pretty fun deck that only cost me around $17.

When I finally got my Dragon Deck ready, I quit playing the game, never got the chance to duel anybody and try it. Now, years later, I remember that and I'm like "man, I wanna play some duels with that deck I built", but it scares me to just try and get destroyed in the first turn by some Link-Syncro-Shit combo, with no time to even have fun. I'd like to have some friends to play casual duels with no restrictitions, which is why I got into the game the first time, and the real reason we all fell for this thing.

As someone who attends competitive events regularly, I agree with several of your points. It's addicting, annoying bad support, but the price is player dependant. It is true that meta decks are usually expensive, but there are counter strategies, as I have been playing an off-meta deck for the last 2 years and been topping regionals and winning big local tournaments. However, the initial commitment matters, as I believe you need to have some "staple" cards, which are now much cheaper then before. If you are commited to spend 150 dollars or so initially for staples that will last several years whilst constantly bending your strategy to counter the meta, it may not be as expensive as it seems.

It can only be summoned by using “Dark Omega Beast servant” while it has 3 Omega tokens and is in defense mode. When this card is summoned, look at your opponent’s hand and discard one of them. If it’s a spell, destroy all their monsters. If it’s a trap, your opponent cannot activate any effects or trap cards. In the main phase of every turn, you may banish a “Dark Omega” Monster in your graveyard, summon a fusion monster from your extra deck. This monster cannot attack your opponent directly and is destroyed at the end of your opponent’s turn. After that monster is destroyed, you may discard your entire hand, summon as many “Dark Omega” monsters to the field as possible and deal damage equal to the half of the square root of 3 times the total attack of all your monsters. This card can’t be targeted by card effects or spell or trap cards. This monster’s attack increases by 1000 for every link monster on the field. Back in the day: Pot of greed: *D R A W 2 C A R D S*

I'm really tossing around the possibility of quitting. I lose like all the time after spending 100s and 100s of dollars into cards. Competitive yugioh out around our local group has a few people that have know it alls, toxic people, and people that say "oh you're just mad cause you're losing.". It's so frustrating to sink money into a game where in one turn someone can do a million things and sucks the fun out of you even playing.

What kind of killed the game for me is that there's barely any interaction with the other players, you just do a big combo set down some cards and try to stop the other person from playing the game via hand traps of traditional trap cards.

Few tips and pointers because I've been playing yugioh for a while 1. Buy cards online don't "maybe I'll get is if I buy packs" The odds are against you 2. If you can't buy cards, try trading, you never know who is willing to trade :) 3. You don't have to spend a lot of money for a "good deck" You have to be smart and creative with the type of deck you can make. 4. Join local tournaments, that's the best way to experience yugi and be able to learn to combos and tricks! 5. Lose more than you win? There is always room for improvement! Also gives you time to learn your mistakes and know what to improve on. #getgoodkid jk also because you win some, you lose some. 6. Never be salty, no one likes salt on their cards. 7. Look up KZbin deck profiles for ideas and new ways to strategize :) 8. And most important tip... *SHOWER* *AND* *WEAR* *DEODORANT!!!!*

I've played Yu-Gi-Oh since elementary school, then I stopped for a few years until just recently. I guess the only reason I don't feel as bitter towards the new stuff is because the archetype I used to play (if you couldn't tell, it's Galaxy-Eyes) got some decent support for modern play while I was gone. Arc-V came out when I had already stopped so I never knew about the Cipher stuff until I came back. I don't win every duel, but I think I still manage to win a good amount of duels, online and offline. I can't say much since I haven't been to anything higher than a locals, but I've been able to play around with my side deck to counter some of the higher tier decks that I see. It's an expensive hobby at times, but I still enjoy dueling for the hell of it and believe there's a good amount of skill required.

Your points are very valid we got a shitty community in yugioh who are desperate to win when there is nothing to gain from it. the priceof cards is insanely expensive and konami has done nothing to compensate players I've been playing MTG, a game that does not have as much power creep if any. Wizards has done a good job at trying to accomdate as many people as possible. From standard to modern to legacy or any format you prefer to play in. I don't know too much about the competitive format but with the mythic championship, players have a reason to compete and aim for the top. You don't even need the best deck in the format because the game takes so much skill. Last but not least, the people in the community are really humble from what I know.

dont firget the reason for cards being insanely expensive, konami tcg releases sets month or even months later than their official release kn the ocg which means they can tell which cards from each set is going to be sought after which in turn they then short print.
