It's been a long time coming. We stumbled upon the opportunity to purchase this off grid cabin in remote northern Maine. This will be a huge project to improve the road and renovate the cabin inside and out.
In July, just before I bought the cabin I was hospitalized and diagnosed with diverticulitis and an intestinal abscess. This infection made me lose weight and strength and I'm still slowly recovering.
I hope you guys come visit me here ‪@feenerproductions‬ ‪@Fishin4Adventure‬ ‪@JoeHollandFishing‬ ‪@JeremyTGrant‬

Your videos are very interesting. I am learning a lot about construction from you. Obviously you know quite a bit. I own a home built in 1918 so any knowledge I can have with construction and structure of a building is beneficial to peer. It is also very exciting to see the progress. You’re a hard worker and you’re doing the majority of it by yourself. Impressive.

That beam not being flush with the exterior isnt that important and intact would protect it better if is pulled in from the exterior wall. The bigger issue is a 6x6 beam looks big and heavy but they just have no business being used horizontally. A doubled up 2x10 would be way stronger and wont bend in between each foundation block. The foam under the pads wont do anything as with out heat insulation dosnt do much at ground level.

You should not feel guilty about taking breaks- you are still healing and need to help that process. I’m also wondering if you are eating the correct things for your problem. I have had diverticulosis for years and it only bothers me when I eat the wrong thing so you should try to be careful with that. I have been a nurse for 50 years so I am speaking from experience. Sometimes it is hard to be a good patient … I know that from experience also. Thank you for sharing your life - I love Maine and I love watching it through your eyes.

I would spray something like Timbor all over the underside to protect it from future decay and insects. Cheap insurance. If the plywood is sound but just smelly, you could just put Advantech on top and screw it down to the joists for an even stronger floor and that will block the smell as well. I did that to a large room in my house and it feels like concrete now. You have smells coming from everywhere inside because it's been closed up for so long. Time and ventilation will fix that. Don't worry too much over little details particularly underneath because it's a cabin and will never be perfect. A few gaps and such won't hurt the structural integrity. I was shocked to see how rigid it is when you jacked it up! It's got good bones.

What an amazing eBike! Great work again Cory on the foundations. Your persistence will pay off - perhaps shortly! Also, the constant tidying away of the rubbish and garbage will make you feel really on top of things once it's all away. By the way, the thing that would really make a dent in the road clearing would be a Bobcat (or equivalent) with a heavy-duty brush cutter on the front. How much would one of those costs for a day's hire? Anyway, you'll get there and we love to be with you on the journey.

Cory-watched you pulling sled of gravel out of your truck-I will ask an obvious question:why have a cap on your truck? Been there/done that. Unless you have a VERY specific need (theft/tools) I have found leaving your truck bed accessible to be much more useful. Looking at how you use your truck makes me think perhaps you are limiting the utility of truck.Anyway-God Bless to you and Gracie. Bill

I would give more thought about putting a poly layer under the cabin. Your porcupine dung is an example. I have had animals that urinate and deficate under homes and it will just sit and pool under there. You will roll in puddles. It will smell more. I had this happen with raccoons. Not en expert, but wanted you to consider the downsides.

Here’s a tip. If you want to spread gravel under the cabin I’d do it as you tear the floor out. Just make a ramp and wheel barrow it in and dump where needed. Don’t forget your vapor barrier. It will help with moisture and root. Especially if you later under skirt it.

Cory, I'm a builder, you're spot on first cleaning up the work site, then tackling the foundation and floor joist. There's a reason it rotted in that corner, it looks like no building wrap or flashing. You can kill the mold smell with 50/50 bleach & water. Let it air out as long as needed. BTW, I'm not a fan of crawling under ANY house! 😂
