I've been saying for the last 20 years that the original Black Christmas is the best Christmas Horror film by far, I enjoy some of the others but it's easily the best. Bob Clark made a pretty damn good Sherlock Holmes movie half a decade later in the form of Murder By Decree which showed he hadn't lost his Horror touch.

Nothing will ever be as impactful or unforgettable as when I first watched black Christmas in 2003. It left such a huge impression on me and scarred me for life because it was so ferociously unnerving and terrifying.

Another thing that happened was that at that time in theaters there was also Santa Claus The Movie and a lot of parents went into Silent Night Deadly Night instead. Good discussion and cool video Justin!👍

Black Christmas '74 sets the standard by which other films are judged. Avoid the 2019 remake; it's baffling to see a homage to the original made as a PG-13 film. The 2006 version falls somewhere in between, and I appreciate its "mean" spirit. However, the remakes tend to add excessive exposition, which is anathema to this type of horror.

Black Christmas is the first slasher movie. It should get just as much respect as the Texas chainsaw massacre. They both were ahead of their time and set the standards of their subgenre.

I enjoyed Christmas horror films, but I do feel that the whole killer Santa idea has been over used. As I've got older, I find that the tradition of telling ghost stories around this time of year. The old Ghost Stories For Christmas, is the best example of what I'm talking about. The works of M R James has strong links with Christmas because of this.

When I met John Saxon I had him sign my dvd of Black Christmas. He was a cool guy, exactly how I thought he'd be. I think Christmas is a more internationally recognized holiday than Halloween, maybe that's why it has been used more often as a theme.

I always think of John Saxon whenever I think of black Christmas because I couldn't believe that he was in two of the most widely accepted by horror movie fans as two of the best horror films ever made: black Christmas and a nightmare on elm Street.

You're wrong without the three ghosts you don't have the same movie. Christmas movies have to have a miracle and redemption.
@TheManiac666
@TheManiac666 7 күн бұрын
My comment said A Christmas Story by Bob Clark. Not A Christmas Carol. There is no miracle or magic in A Christmas Story. Just like there is no miracle or magic in Black Christmas, Home Alone, Silent Night Deadly Night, White Christmas, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Hell, Charlie Brown Christmas has no magic or miracles and that is one of the most loved Christmas specials of all time. Miracles and magic are not needed for a Christmas movie to be a Christmas movie.

@@TheManiac666 i was only taking rich eisen's take on it. Redemption is a big element also though aside from ghosts or miracles. And though home alone could be in the category of home invasion movie or children's movie or comedy it does have that essential to the story scene towards the end where Kevin helps out that old man and gets him to be with his daughter. So that's redemption. Without that home alone wouldn't be a Christmas movie. I changed my stance on it when I thought about that. I do think if the freaking word Christmas is in the title that alone almost makes it a Christmas movie. One thing that a Christmas movie has to have is enough big Christmas things in it and not just side elements that don't make an impact on the movie as a whole. Obviously a Christmas story has enough Christmas elements in the plot which without would make it not able to be the movie it is so that makes it a Christmas movie.

@@lukejbarnett1 The point I have been making this entire time is that just because your opinion on a film is different from others doesn't mean they are wrong. And it does not mean that you are wrong. People see and enjoy movies in different ways. For those who enjoy Die Hard as a Christmas movie, let them enjoy it as a Christmas movie. They are not wrong. For those who don't see Die Hard as a Christmas movie. Fine, let them enjoy it as a non-Christmas movie. They are not wrong either. Die Hard is one of those movies that walks a fine line between its genres, and it can fall on either side. Just like many Christmas movies. I have no problem with civil disagreement and civil discussion when it comes to movies. How does people adding Die Hard to their Christmas watch list effect you or Rich Eisen in any way? The answer is it doesn't. Just let people enjoy the movies they want to enjoy around Christmas. And understand why they have the views that they have. The reason Die Hard is a Christmas movie for me is because it has everything that I enjoy in a Christmas movie. Including the redemption that you say is needed. The entire reason John goes to California in the first place is to make amends with his wife and see his children for Christmas. There's that whole scene where John is talking to Sgt Pal on the radio. And he asks him to find his wife if he doesn't make it so he can give her an apology for John not being there for her. The reason he is there is because he was invited to the Christmas party. His whole reason for being there is to see his family for Christmas. The catalyst for everything in the film is Christmas. Christmas is all over the movie. Not just on the edges of the film. So, I will continue to watch Die Hard around Christmas and enjoy it. Just like you and Rich Eisen are allowed to enjoy it however you want to.

@TheManiac666 because it's not true and anyone who thinks it's a Christmas movie is wrong. I mean why else do you think it's become a debate in the last 10 years it's because they are foolishly trying to say it is a Christmas movie. They are just bothering people for the fun of it. How come we never heard anyone say that die hard Is a Christmas movie until about 10 years ago? And how come when you were a kid you never thought it's a Christmas movie? And how come when it came out in 1988 it came out in July? If they really thought it's a Christmas movie The studio would have put it out in October November or December. That proves it's not a Christmas movie. Also the video box has no indication it's a Christmas movie. So when you'd rent it from video store you never saw any objects of Christmas on the cover or in the title. All of these things cannot be disproven.
@lukejbarnett1
@lukejbarnett1 5 күн бұрын
@TheManiac666 it could have been a Halloween party or any day that is not a holiday and still worked as far as what the story is. That proves it's not a Christmas movie. If a movie can have the same unique plot without the Christmas parts then it's not a Christmas movie.

Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie! I love Secret Santa from 2015 but my top 3 favorites are Christmas Evil, Silent Night Deadly Night and Silent Night from 2012. I think Black Christmas is a bit overrated. I don't like the final girl or the abortion side plot. With that being said, I think the 2 remakes are trash especially 2006 because they ruin Billy and give him too much back story.

Not true. There are very few relatively Christmas horror movies, it's a niche thing. It's always been this way. It's not like Halloween where there are 100s of horror movies. There are maybe 50 well known Christmas horror movies so you really have to dig to get to a lot of Christmas horror movies to watch.
@lukejbarnett1

That's funny because rich eisen in that video says it's a wonderful life is a Christmas movie. He gives infallible and impossible to disprove evidence to why die hard Is not a Christmas movie. You could put the movie on any day of the year and you'd still have the same story and a great action movie. It doesn't matter that he has to do this before Christmas. That could be replaced with Halloween or any day.

So, one person say's Die Hard is not a Christmas movie and therefore it's true. But when there are plenty of other videos explaining that it is a Christmas movie, they are wrong? And when the writers of Die Hard say it's a Christmas movie, they are also wrong? Glad that one person knows more about the film than the people who wrote it. I watch the Rich Eisen video and no. He did not provide any infallible evidence. He stated and opinion. A very ridged opinion and he was given plenty of valid pushback. The man said Home Alone and Gremlins are not Christmas movies. It's a Wondeful Life could take place on any day. In fact, most of the movie does not take place on Christmas. The story would be exactly the same if you took Christmas out. Same thing with Black Christmas, Home Alone, White Christmas, You Better Watch Out (2016), Batman Returns. All could have Christmas taken out and be exactly the same. But they are all still considered Christmas movies. Miracles and magic are not needed for a Christmas film to be a Christmas film. My point is one opinion is not more valid than another when it comes to film. Just because one person agrees with you that does not mean everyone who disagrees is wrong.

@TheManiac666 6 күн бұрын
Dude, your whole argument was that Christmas movies need to have miracles and magic to be Christmas movies. That's the point I'm making. Yes, A Christmas Story is a Christmas movie despite the fact that it does not have any of the magic that you claimed a movie needs to be a Christmas movie. Just like how Home Alone and Black Christmas don't have any magic, but they are still Christmas movies. There are many films that do not have "Christmas magic," that are still Christmas movies. And there are plenty of Christmas movies that you could remove every element of Christmas from them and could easily not... be... Christmas... movies. But they are considered Christmas movies. Read what my comments have said and pay attention to the points I'm actually making. This is the second time that you have ignored what I have actually put in my replies.

Anyone who says die hard Is a Christmas movie I stop listening to them talk. You're wrong, die hard Is not a Christmas movie. It's an action movie that happens to take place at Christmas time. You know how you know it's not a Christmas movie? If you take all the Christmas things away from it would you still have a movie? The answer is yes. And it doesn't have any magical things happening like ghosts in a Christmas carol. It doesn't have the Christmas spirit. Watch Rich eisens video on here to prove it's not a Christmas movie. It's under rich eisen show die hard Is not a Christmas movie.
@TheManiac666
@TheManiac666 7 күн бұрын
That is some of the most flawed logic I've ever heard. So, by your standards It's a Wonderful Life is not a Christmas movie because you could remove all the Christmas elements, and the story would be the same. Black Christmas isn't a Christmas movie because if you removed all the Christmas Elements the story would be the same. Oh, and A Christmas Story is no longer a Christmas movie since it doesn't have any magical elements. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is now not a Christmas movie because of its lack of magical stuff. And yes, there are plenty of videos on KZbin claiming Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. But there are just as many videos explaining why it is a Christmas movie. Plus, the writers of the film say it is a Christmas movie. Look I have no problem with people having a different viewpoint than me. If Die Hard is not a Christmas film for you than continue to enjoy it as a non-Christmas flick. But what I can't stand is people acting like there need to be rules for how people enjoy movies. All that does is take the fun out of loving movies. For me Die Hard is a Christmas flick. And I get more enjoyment out of the film that way.
