Really helps to make it concrete. I like how you make the THINKING process clear. Whether or not these are good examples of bias or not doesn't really matter. I think this video will be helpful to students in getting started with the process.

In regards to linking your objects to theprompt, I feel as if you could have possibly added more on the "production of knowledge" part of the prompt; because you did well on the "inevitable" idea.

Since it's majorly internally assessed, do all the exhibition samples get checked by IB?

No this is typically done through a sample set of the cohort. However, that sampling can affect marks for all other students.

Hey, I was just asking whether choosing paintings of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ in the different colours they are chosen for as an object to prove that bias can be driven by the desire to gain racial superiority under the question "is bias inevitable in the production of knowledge is a generic object or not?"

Re 7:21. They didn't just take a boulder and arbitrarily come up with a kilogram. It is the weight of 1 litre of water. That is 1000 cubic cm. A cm being 1/100 of a metre. A metre being 1 ten millionth of the distance from the North pole to the equator. It wasn't arbitrary; they wanted the measures to relate to life (water) and the planet itself.

Very nice video about the TOK exhibition with Example. One simple question to ask. All the 3 objects should be linked to each other? I am aware that all the 3 objects should link to the IA prompt.

I really appreciate the effort, but since many teachers and students are watching this, I would like to point out a few things. Bias is a 'cognitive attribute' resting on the epistemic agent /knower. An epistemic agent is not devoid of the influence of the collective epistemic agency (culture) that zhe is a part of. Acknowledging this 'bias' is important to maintain a certain objective or a universality to the knowledge produced or the agent's knowledge claim. Some AOKs are more prone to bias compared to the others. The exhibition, in my understanding, is trying to point at a 'perceptual output' to a 'conceptual problem'. Hence I don't think the choice of the second object is very accurate. Also, it is suggested that the students use specific objects with some personal connection as the objective of the assessment is to see if they can connect the concepts to their perceptual framework.

Thanks so much for the video. According to my understanding, bias is different from making mistakes. The mistake made by the calculator doesn't seem to reflect bias which is an unfair inclination towards sth/ an idea. I agree with theframework that the choice of second object is not very appropriate. A systematic mathematical bias may be better. And I think somehow the objects are still quite generic in nature. Instead of a general calculator, should it be specified that it's a calculator you used in IB lesson?

@@LSteaching perhaps if the analysis was focused on how humans are biased to choose easy solutions to complicated problems, thus our use of flawed tools leading to flawed answer and accepting that shows bias to simple methods over more complicated methods when pursuing knowledge?
@davidschalm1595

I agree that it is a fair point the calculator may not hold up. However, what this concept opens the door for would be looking at something like bias in programming and coding - like the new Netflix documentary "Coded Bias".

Are we not interested in human bias in knowledge production? Mathematician’s bias would to undertake research to earn funding, not the fault of a calculator.
