Freddie’s adoration and exposure to all kinds of music definitely helped the band create unique music. That Freddie was born with a glorious voice with a four octave range, perfect pitch and a natural ear that allowed him to compose music and teach himself how to play guitar after having had only 4 years of piano lessons as a child, his large jaw, wide mouth, and double jointed fingers all helped. Most of all the fact that Freddie was ambitious and like each member of Queen, a perfectionist that took their jobs as musicians seriously helped too. Each member had high levels of education and true musical talent which made their band destined for success.

I think Freddies flamboyance was his defense mechanism against his deep rooted feelings of lonliness. In order to be accepted he was extreme in everything that way if someone didnt agree with how he did things he could shrug it off and keep going. Of course his extravagance was his legacy but also his downfall. The band did not care for Munich which led to all kinds of bad behaviour for Freddie as the club scene was much more available and accepted. New York was similar. Too much freedom and risky behavior. RIP Freddie. On another note I watched that 74 Rainbow concert last week. Amazing performance. Enjoy.

@deborahcornell1715 жыл бұрын
When you paused "Spread Your Wings" to talk about its simplicity I burst out laughing because, even though every word you said was true, I knew what was coming next! You really picked two exact opposites to do together. I think you're right about Freddie's creativity. The first two trailers for the movie (BohRap) said "Fearless is forever." And that's true. Freddie had a vulnerability about him in some ways, but his drive and creative genius made him unafraid when it came to performing, on stage and in videos. And a meticulous perfectionist in the studio. I'm still hoping you'll do "Gimme the Prize" and the studio version of "Dragon Attack". Pretty please.

@@bethford6007 Shitsville? Lol! I think I've been there a few times myself! I plan to do a little collecting too. I have the first five Queen albums stored away in pristine condition, each bought as it was released. And later albums on CDs of course. But I cherish those old albums. You might've seen me say this before (repeating myself), but when they released their 1st album I was a little teen Zeppelin fanatic. I read a review that favorably compared them to Zep. That was good enough for me. I rushed out & bought it sight unseen (& sound unheard) the day after it hit the record stores. I then was stunned at what I heard coming out of my stereo speakers and suddenly found myself with two favorite bands. Anyway, a lot of youthful happy memories go with those early albums, times spent listening with friends etc. I wouldn't take anything for them. I definitely plan to supplement them with the kind of goodies we've been talking about. I've loved Queen & our dear Freddie all these years, but the past few months it's been like a resurgence, with the movie and watching new fans come into being. And these reaction videos & reading all the comments by my fellow fans. I'm enjoying the hell out of it!

Oh I'm so happy when you do these double features! Actually nobody was thinking about music videos before Queen period. Artists would do telly and get their music on radio but before Bo Rhap there were no music videos per se. It's a Hard Life is my favourite music video from Queen. It's so hilariously over the top and just the absolute hatred Roger still has for it makes it the greatest. "Mediterranean prawn", Bri being "dangerously close to acting", John as unicorn, Roger not giving a single fck walking around in his white trainers and mouthing fck at one point... The greatest 😂 you really need to check it with Bri and Rog's commentary!
@Chinachik5 жыл бұрын
Regarding the music videos, you're partially right. Queen was in an innovator in the fact that they shot a lot of them, but even in the mid and late 60s some bands like The Stones and The Beatles had music videos shot specifically for release on BBC television or to be shown on variety shows to promote their new releases.
@dresden1234565 жыл бұрын
@@Chinachik ah interesting, thanks for the info! I was always under impression they were performances filmed for telly rather than music videos in the more modern sense of the term (not sure if I'm explaining myself correctly 😅)

@@dresden123456 you're doing okay. Music Videos as stand alone entertainment were just coming into being (invented). Music groups were trying to find outlets to get their music heard/noticed. Radio was original and first mode. But how else can you grab attention to bring people to your concerts or to buy your album? And yes - tv shows helped (here in US 2 songs on SNL were quite important (imo). Then tv started noticing ... hmm we can develope this into a show and MTV was created!!!

@Chinachik5 жыл бұрын
@@dresden123456 I think that was mainly the case for The Rolling Stones, as far as filming performances that could appear on television. But if you want to see the earliest music video by The Beatles, check out one for the song Rain. It's hard to find on KZbin now, probably due to copyright issues, but it's one of those rarities in that it wasn't first featured as a part of one of their movies or anything. It was just a video of them filmed and set to the newly released song that was presented to the BBC and also specifically sent to the variety show host Ed Sullivan to appear on his show as they couldn't make a personal appearance due to being elsewhere on tour, but still wanted to thank him for properly introducing them to American viewers. And you're explaining yourself just fine. I get that you mean "music video" as being more of a production rather than simply a band having themselves filmed performing one of their songs....because sure, there were lots of those filmed songs before Queen, but there were very few actual short "films" that were specifically created and used as promotional material set to the soundtrack of a band's song before the early 70s. Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the first in that regard. :)

This is what I like so much about your reaction vids. You don't just look at it from an emotional perspective, However their music has plenty of that to suit anyones needs. But you educate folks, you research the music. Your introspection and insight about the musical motivations of the band are really spot on. You as well as many other people are coming to realize that the One Key ingredient missing in (Much, Not all ) of todays music is what you are finding in the talents of these greats from the past. A great deal of the canned music today lacks the spirit, the integrity musically as well as lyrically , the passion and the depth are gone today.when you hear greats such as Ray Charles or Aretha sing a ballad. or hear Freddy with Queen , or even groups like Yes or Kansas..we were listening to people who were relating Life to us ...not just momentary pleasures...they were giving us truth , and even wisdom in poetry and real music, and not just appealing to our modern need to live fast and die young. Keep up the good work ...you are really hitting the nail on the head with all of your reaction vids not just Queen

Great reaction, probably the best ever! Thank you!!! I really like how you have come to appreciate Queen. In answer to your question, I think you answered it yourself. Freddie never cared what others thought of him. His creativity was pure genius. We, the public, will never truly understand pure genius like Freddie's. But I also really wanted to point out that English humor is/was way different from American humor. If you watch any English comedy show, most of it goes right over your head. Dressing in drag is a very English thing!! It dates back pre- Shakespeare. Boys have always been tutored at home or gone to prestigious boarding schools!!! All boys schools!!! If they put on shows, half the guys had to dress in the girl's clothes. The English don't see anything wrong with this. They also are much less puritanical than Americans. Therefore, as we saw Queen dressed up as women in the 1980's video, most people in America were shocked, and Queen never toured America again. Such a shame. It truly hurts my heart that we make the outside more important than what is inside a person's heart. I will never understand how judgements can be made on looks instead of content. We have come a long way, but we have such a long way to go!!

He joined his first band, called The Hectics, at 12. They were very popular playing for school audiences. At school he also played hockey, boxed & sprinted. It’s a hard life, such a beautiful song, one of Freddie’s best. Sadly overshadowed by the video which Brian & Roger hated. They thought that the director Tim Pope was taking the piss 😁

hey, you should do a q&a. I know its different from what you usually do but I'd like to get to know you more. All the love!

Thank you. Lamar's enthusiasm and new enjoyment for Freddie & Queen - I just couldn't sit back and not do something. I think I'm also impatient - hahahaha. But I truly do *love spreading Queen joy* around. Got an executive to go see BoRhap (after 1.5 months of hounding) and he said the movie is in his Top Five, downloaded lots of Queen music, and was going to see of his son wanted to see it again. Hounding is a delicate balance - you can kill it if you don't reel it in just right. I guess alot like Deep Sea Fishing!!! LOL

@@bethford6007 you are exactly right it's a deep sea fishing. It's also so awesome that you spread the queen love around. That music is so amazing and timeless. A lot of people just don't get that it's not just music of a lot of people's lives or that it's music that was before its time it was music that was created by someone who truly love music and wanted to share his love of music and the love in his heart and it makes it so much better music because it's music with true feeling and meaning not just sitting down and banging out what sounds good and what might have a good field to it. Everything about it was love.

@@teresadutson3121 you know how everyone speculates who he's singing about for this song and that.... well, *You Take My Breath Away* (while it _may_ be About or For someone else blah blah blah) I have assigned it to *MUSIC* He could live without woman. He could live without man. He could NOT live without MUSIC. He was a _slave_ to music's demands and Music needed Him just as much!

Spread Your Wings is a beautiful song. One of my favorite things about the video are the 'sketchy ' gloves a roadie gave Freddie to wear (duct tape, 😂😂)

"It's a hard life". Not my favorite Queen video. But the song is great! Have you done "Breakthru" already? Give it a try. I think you'll like it.

Thank you for reacting to some of their best tracks! I’m just reading Peter Freestones book and he describes how Freddie shot the video after injuring his knee. You can tell by the way he sits down in the last shot
