Hey look, a cartoon about kids and a dog solving mysteries! I didn't think they had any of those in the 70s.

David Gee If only they could change up the formula. Like, instead of a dog, use a ghost, or a talking car, or a shark, or a time displaced caveman. They could even use an all Asian or all female cast if they wanted to. But I don’t think Hanna- Barbera would do something like that.

@@0supermoose804 Nah, those couldn’t work. They should use a couple of guys on a motorcycle partnered with a pair of genies, one a female and the other fat and bad with spells saying gibberish. Sounds like a different genie themed show on live action tv, but nah that’s just a coincidence, right? Or how about a mystery group with TWO dogs who speak perfect English that only we the audience can understand. We’ll call them Clue Club! But perhaps whatever the idea we must remember, whatever the new mystery group, they need to be a rock band. Cause that’s what people want nowadays. Everyone loves rock with detective work against weirdos. Like maybe a pussycat themed band of women who operate on Earth, but then next for a while we set them in outer space meeting a cute alien mascot character along the way repeatedly failing to get home, too. Yes. I think we’re getting somewhere.

Debuting on Sept 8,1973 on NBC Saturday mornings, "BUTCH CASSIDY" was an unusual Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, because it dipped into the "High Tech" format that was used by the previous NBC series, "SEARCH" (1972-73) and stayed pretty true over the exploits of a globe trotting rock group doing secret assignments for the government. it actually wasn't a bad cartoon series, given the annoyance of the "Elvis" dog, or voices by former "MONKEES" co-star Mickey Dolenz, and obviously a little more realistic than "JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS" (1970) it was still a good cartoon series to watch!

Butch Cassidy was a show ahead of it's time. Picking up some of the elements that held Hanna Barbera's other shows together while also be a rousing teen spy effort. A show that has been badly misaligned by it's not being shown as much as it could have been. The kids who ate up Kim Possible could have easily eaten this show up on CN or Boomerang. It also has perfect lines to have the characters be put back to use in future productons. Certainly not headliners but whenever they need a spy caper, these are the kids to cameo. Plus they could make Steffy more relevant today by giving her a cannon story fans have long since speculated on. Warner Archive thanks for helping us give shows like this a new life. I always enjoy when I see you put out another, although maybe a little sad that's one less we have to still be released, but given there's still countless ones still to go, that may be a little silly of me lol.

Back when Cartoon Network started and re-played through the entire Hanna-Barbera canon, Butch Cassidy aired weekly on Saturday mornings at midnight (because it only had a short run of 12-13 episodes). I was 2 years old and too young to watch TV or remember doing so when this series came on. I discovered it on USA Cartoon Express during the 80's. I actually liked it. Looking at it today, Butch Cassidy reminds me of Ashton Kutcher from That 70's Show. Even though Mickey Dolenz voiced over Wally the drummer, I can't help but wonder if Dolenz was the singing voice of Butch Cassidy on the intro and songs in each episode. Although Elvis, their laughing dog got on my nerves, my favorite source of laughter for me was their boss/agent/super computer Mr. Socrates who was allergic to dogs. Okay, I can't resist. "AH..AH.. AH..CHOO.. GET THAT DOG OUT OF HERE....AH..AH.. AH.. CHOO!!!" John Stephenson was awesome. Of all the cartoon shows and characters, I wished that Scooby Doo and Mystery Inc could have had a crossover episode with the Sundance Kids and Butch Cassidy.

I see Butch Cassidy and Stephanie joined in wedlock at a church; possibly the Arlen First United Pentacostal Church in Arlen, Texas. Wally is the Bestman, Merilee is Maid-Of-Honor, which about rounds out the main portion of the wedding festivities. Usher-Groomsmen are as follows: The Chan Brothers (Henry, Stanley, Tom, Alan, and Flip because Scooter Chan was asked by both Butch and Stephanie to be the ringbearer), The Devlin Brothers (Ernie and Todd because they’re maternal first cousins to Butch), Gator Barksdale (apprentice of Inch-High, Private Eye and cousin to the Barksdale sisters that includes Helen Morgendorffer), Larry Banister (one of the members of Clue Club, and another one of Butch’s maternal first cousins), D.D. (Dexter Donaldson) Duncan (another member of Clue Club and distant cousin to ABC newsanchor Sam Donaldson), Tinker Finkerton (Speed Buggy’s personal mechanic and nephew of the head of the Finkerton Detective Agency), Mark Bagley (close friend of Speed Buggy and nephew of Sheriff Bagley of Cook County, Minnesota, home base of Clue Club), Woody Boggs (one of Butch’s maternal first cousin from Fenoke County, and the owner of a hound dog named Buford), Alan Maxwell (aka Alan M. from “JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS”), Alexander Cabot, III., (manager of Josie & The Pussycats), Skip Duncan (a paternal first cousin of D.D. as well as the BFF of Jonathan Muddlemore aka Mudsy aka The Funny Phantom), Fred Jones (fiancée of Velma Dinkley), Norvell “Shaggy” Rogers (owner of Scooby-Doo), “Race” Bannon (bodyguard of Benton and Jonny Quest), Jonny Quest (a maternal first cousin of Merilee), Hadji (Jonny’s BFF), and Auggie Hale (another friend of Jonathan Muddlemore aka Mudsy aka The Funky Phantom). As for the bridesmaids, well, that’s easy enough as follows: The Chan Sisters (Suzie, Anne, and Nancy, especially since Mimi Chan is the flowergirl), Laurie Hyacinth (niece of Inch-High, Private Eye), Sandy Devlin (younger sister of Ernie and Todd), April Revere (a personal friend of Jonathan Muddlemore aka Mudsy aka The Funky Phantom), Cindy Mae Boggs (Woody’s sister and another cousin of Butch’s), Pepper Mapleton (Larry’s fiancée and first cousin April and Laurie), Dottie Mapleton (Pepper’s younger sister), Daphne Blake (close friend of Scooby-Doo), Velma Dinkley (close friend of Scooby-Doo), Debby Rorchak (close friend of Speed Buggy and fiancée of Tinker), and assorted friends of both Merilee and Stephanie. Now all we need is to have a fellow fan step forward to use the elements above in a good crossover story for submission to www.fanfiction.net in order to let fans know that this is one story worthy of being read by all.

(Kids, you might not know this, but back in the dark ages, a TV show aired in a "time slot" on a "channel" and you had to be physically sitting in front of the TV when it came on and stay there until it was over, and if you weren't there, you couldn't see it later or add it to your queue or download a copy or buy it in a store or ANYTHING! It was just GONE! (Except for reruns, which had the same problem.) (Also, your TV might only get a few channels, depending on where you lived. And you couldn't just nag your parents to spend a little more to "get ABC!". If there wasn't an affiliate close enough for your antenna (kind of like a wifi router, except you had to keep moving it around) to pick it up, that was that!) (A *very* few rich kids *might* have cable... if they lived in the areas where it was starting to be installed... but that meant you had to be friends with a rich kid. And they were usually assholes. That hasn't changed. OTOH, if they had cable, they probably had a pool, too. So it could be worth it.) Those were dreadful days, indeed. I miss them not at all.

Why weren't they guest stars on Scooby-Doo and Guess Who or The New Scooby-Doo Movies????!!!!!!!!
@redpyramid96972 жыл бұрын
That's a good question.

I would suspect because while Hanna Barbera made both shows, this aired on NBC, While Scooby at this point was on CBS and the network with Scooby wasn't going to plug an show airing on another network. You noticed that the ones that had other Hanna Barbera characters meeting Scooby and the gang were on CBS as well.

I swear every cartoon during those times was a Scooby Doo clone
@rickytimonio63448 жыл бұрын
While we can already ascertain you probably only read bad articles on this or have a bad history background by use of the word "clone" But this is a terrible series to be making that comment on. Given the only real major connection between this and Scooby is the design of the main characters. If you go and watch an episode of Scooby Doo Where are You and this and come back telling us they are very much the same show, I'm going to recommend you get yourself checked out.

The great thing about this show was Lloyd "Chip" Hand III, he was an actual voice teacher in California that did all of the actual lead singing on ths show, unlike Scooby-doo that had other singers and bands hired to do the music on those shows.

If you watched the show carefully enough, you noticed that unlike Fred Jones, Butch NEVER said, "Wally, you and Elvis are the bait." Instead, he willingly took all the risks himself.
