Man I'm a Canadian and have been singing/playing since I was 10 ( I'm 55 today ) and every time I place this song up here in Canada, I "ALWAYS" get huge applause, there's just something about this song ( I suppose all songs of Merle's ) that touch people and makes us feel like we're all just one big family who happen to live in different country's. We're not all that different and I'm sure if you googled our Canadian singing hero Stompin Tom Connors ( Which I happen to play dozens of his songs too ) you would love him just as we Canadians love your Musical greats. God bless you, Merle. This song is so relevant today, when we have no leadership in this country. It makes me so very sad to see things headed to hell in a hand basket. Well said Kimberley. Most ppl that I know are really hopeless. It’s hard to come from having a leader who finally works for our Nation and her citizens and then being told that half of our fellow Americans voted him out at the expense of our ruination! It don’t make sense. Now look what has happened. Are we helpless to hang on to America for our young when they themselves are not willing to fight for it? Should we fight harder for their future than they do?

You know I’ve spent my entire life angry at my father. He wasn’t good to me, my mom passed away at 22 years old when I was 4. I miss her everyday and as a 38 year old man today I’ve realizing more and more that it affected me as much then as it does now. I never really did get any help with dealing with that. But I remember a brief time of my father, mother and me sitting in between on the bench of and old car. Driving down the road everyone screaming this song at the top of their lungs. Only until this moment, do I now realize how happy I was. Only now do I understand how much I miss my mom. I lost my dad back then too. I can’t blame him though. The good times have been over a long time ago, but listening to this song transported me back to that day like it was yesterday. I’m thankful for that….I love you Mom and miss you everyday. Dad even though we’d never say it to each other. I love you too, I wish you and I could forgive and forget. 🥹

Sounds like a real tough go, Ryan. I feel for you. I think we are all wounded by our parents to some degree. At least that's our perception. Sometimes a parents role is to teach us what NOT TO DO. I can tell you that now as I reflect on my life at 46, I see the lack of approval from my father drove me to prove myself to everybody and myself for years and years. It did lead to a ton of "success" in carnality terms. I now realize he didn't do it on purpose and I have forgiven him for it. Ultimately, I wouldn't be the man I am today without that lack in my life as a child. I hope you can reconcile with your Dad. He'll be gone before you know it.
