I was born in 1960 and I started listening to music in 1969 and what a wonderful time to be alive and experience the beginning of Rock and Roll. I went to my first Summer Jam at Arrowhead Stadium in 1974 and saw Rory Callagher, Linda Ronstadt, Robin Trower, and Jethro Tull I was only 14 I'll never forget about it.

@@anthonyboerio4955: You mention Nancy Wilson in the same breath as Clapton, Van Halen and Berry yet she was the 3rd best guitarist in her band. 1. Roger Fisher 2. Howard Leese 3. Nancy Wilson. Who do you think played all those rocking solos in their early songs? Sure wasn’t Nancy, why, because she couldn’t. Nancy is okay on acoustic, but she wouldn’t come close to the top 50 guitarists in the world. As long as Roger and Howard were in the band, Nancy was regulated to rhythm guitar or a few acoustic riffs. Roger and Howard wrote and played the heavier stuff. And I’m willing to bet if you ask Nancy, she would admit she is no Clapton or Van Halen. I see where you are coming from. Nancy is a good looking woman and blonde! But Lita Ford would roast Nancy on electric guitar.

@@virgildailey1970 Yes, Nancy is no Clapton or Hendrix but she is a pretty good guitarist. That opening of Crazy is pretty tricky and you could see she is even a little loose with it live. I played it years ago and it was pretty tricky so my hat is off to her.

@@MarkTubeG You are absolutely correct. There was a time when musicianship and talent truly meant something. Now, it's all about appearance and presentation first, with talent ranking pretty much at the end of the list, since they can just "fix" it.I absolutely despise listening to an artist sing while having no idea whether or not they can actually sing. The worst part is that the public is so conditioned for perfection that the industry auto tunes absolutely everything, whether it needs it or not.

@russk1971
@russk1971 9 ай бұрын
@mwfmtnman that is not what I said. I am stating that today's music is less about knowing how to play a musical instrument and sing on pitch. The music of today is more about the "glitz and glitter." The riff is a computer generated loop of mimicked sounds. The "beat" is an electronic click of vering frequencies. Live performers sing into a microphone, and the pitch is corrected before it is heard by the audience. I am calling out the so-called artists who use other people's work and either splice or "remix" it with different lyrics and call it new. Poetry is poetry. Being a wordsmith takes talent. The skills to use a computer to "cut and paste" and edit audio files are above my ability. The ability to actually use a musical instrument to create a pleasing sound scape is a much different level of skill. The ability to reproduce what you created with a musical instrument in front of a crowd of people on a regular basis takes a much higher skill level. Today's artists due to whatever? Do not reproduce what they did in the studio without computer generated assistance.

Heart had other hits later, but Heart never surpassed this period, this band lineup, this level of songwriting, helped by the band members' input.

@donwarrington4916 I have to agree with Mark on this one. The quality of music by the band during this period was the best ever created under the Heart name. If you measure your music by sales and charts Don I guess you have spent a lot of time listening to Taylor Swift.
@donwarrington4916
@donwarrington4916 11 ай бұрын
@@Zoetropeification it's easier to take a bigger piece of the pie when you don't have any competition . The mid 80's was still quite competitive in the industry .. That being said most of their hits in the 80's were not written by them and it's hard not to be successful when the likes of Jim Valance , Diane Warren and Bernie Taupin are writing your songs ..lol
@AnthonyStJames
@AnthonyStJames 11 ай бұрын
@@donwarrington4916 True; doesn't necessarily mean the music was better though. That later Heart era was over-orchestrated and not really rock & roll, like this performance above. You can't even hear any guitars on those later hits. They became a MOR (middle of the road) act by the mid-80s. I can't fault them for their success, though.
