Finally, Midnight Special!! We have been waiting for those Bowie's video performances for YEARS!!! Guys, that was 50 YEARS AGO! There are some of those videos here on KZbin and in other bootlegs but not with a good image quality. THOSE COME STRAIGHT FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPES! CONGRATULATIONS! When Bowie recorded that in London in 1973, it was recorded after many hours of rehearsals. Why not release some of this extra footage too?

I never missed the Midnight Special back in the day. Watching this is like being in a Time Machine. It transports me back to my Junior year, sitting in my bedroom, watching this in rapped attention thinking how cool it is to be living in this time with my whole life before me. And what a life it’s been. I only wish today’s youth have the same outlook. But I don’t think they do. So incredible to think this performance was so long ago, when it seems so fresh still. Thank you .

This Folks is the VERY DEFINITION Of a genuine ROCK STAR ⭐️. Bowie defined what is was to be an ever changing, ever evolving chameleon who excelled at every level of his evolution. This performance showcases what a mesmerizing and dynamic live performer he a was. His vocals in this performance were 100 percent top tier and Ronson is the quintessential rock guitarist whose vocals blended beautifully with Bowie. And THE BAND. THIS is high level musicianship here!! No one comes close to Bowie in terms of just how influential and eclectic he truly was. RIP Mr. Bowie. You leave behind a legacy that will stand the test of time!

I finally got to see Bowie LIVE in 1991. He opened with this and had this incredible visual trick where he raised on a clear platform in the air making it seem like a 50 foot woman (on a vid screen) was lifting him into the air in the palm of her hand. Entire show was epic. He played for almost 3 hours.

On November 16, 1973, David Bowie made another appearance on "The Midnight Special" TV show. This was his second appearance on the program, and it provided him with another opportunity to showcase his music to a wider audience. During this particular episode, Bowie performed several songs, giving viewers a taste of his eclectic and evolving musical style. The songs he performed on this episode of "The Midnight Special" were: 1. **"The Jean Genie"**: "The Jean Genie" is a song from Bowie's album "Aladdin Sane," released earlier in 1973. The song is characterized by its gritty guitar riff and energetic rock sound. It became one of Bowie's signature tracks and was well-received by fans and critics alike. 2. **"Panic in Detroit"**: This song also comes from the "Aladdin Sane" album. It features a blend of rock and soul influences and showcases Bowie's lyrical storytelling style. The song's title and lyrics reflect a sense of urban anxiety. 3. **"Space Oddity"**: "Space Oddity" is one of David Bowie's most iconic songs. It was originally released in 1969 and tells the story of Major Tom, an astronaut who becomes stranded in space. The song's ethereal and spacey atmosphere contributes to its enduring popularity. Bowie's performances on "The Midnight Special" were notable for his dynamic stage presence, distinctive fashion sense, and the unique blend of rock, glam, and theatrical elements that he brought to his performances. These appearances helped solidify his reputation as a groundbreaking and influential artist of the time. Overall, Bowie's participation in shows like "The Midnight Special" allowed him to connect with a broader audience and further establish himself as a major figure in the music industry.

I have been watching bootleg videos of this and other Bowies videos from this particular show for years and most with a lot of quality flaws or missing spots but was happy to see them and could live with them! ...But finally, it's so great to start seeing very high-quality original TMS videos here on "The Midnight Special" channel from Bowie's 1980 Floor Show that aired back in 1973 and I remember it like it was yesterday! ...I sure hope eventually the whole show will be shown in its entirety! ...As there was nothing else ever like it ever since as it was almost the end of his Ziggy-Aladdin persona! ...Absolutely Bowie fantastic! Thank you Midnight Special for releasing it and the many other shows and artist you have been sharing as I have been praying for many, many, many years for this musical history day to come from you!

@mark240862

The band is the Spiders from Mars. Bassist is the late Trevor Bolder who later spent 30 yrs playing for Uriah Heep after he stopped working with Bowie. The Drummer is Aynsley Dunbar.. Who has played with the likes of Jeff Beck, Journey, Whitesnake to name but a few... He wasn't the original Spiders from Mars drummer who played on the recordings... That was Woody Woodmansey. The lead guitarist is the late Mick Ronson who has a very long list of credits to his name. The rhythm guitarist on this is a mystery to me. And as for the keyboard parts... I can't see them on this but on the original record it's Rick Wakeman of Yes. Hope this info was helpful.
