Here is the video I said I wanted to do, almost a year ago. I dug through all 29 videos covering this build and put them together, here. I hope you enjoy the "Cliff Notes" version of the build ; )
If you would like to see the whole series, here's a link to the play list:

I don't comment too often, but this video warrants the highest praise for model making. Having watched all 29 installments during the build, this cliff notes version truly demonstrates the magnitude of this project and the incredible skill and talent to pull it off. Congrats and looking forward to further Titanic videos.

Nice build man. I say this every time I see one of these, my Dad was a huge time model builder. If you aren’t wearing breathing protection while using most of these chemicals, please start. He was diagnosed with AML (it’s a type of leukemia) largely caused by the benzenes found in a lot of modeling chemicals

I built the USS Missouri from a Sterling balsa kit, put R/C controls and engine, made the turrets go up and down and side by side, even a radar that rotated.

I am a Navy veteran and retired Army 1SG. I switched from the Navy to the Army and near the end of my career I was being sent to Korea. I PCS’d my family from Ft. Campbell, KY to Ft. Lewis and shipped out to Camp Casey, Korea for a year. Before heading out we went to Bremerton and got great pictures of the Mighty Mo in mothballs. When I returned to Lewis and retired, they were towing her out to sea heading for Hawaii. Many people were there watching and it was sad. During Ocean Safari 85… on an UNREP at 0300hrs., with my destroyer starboard of the USNS refueling ship and all of a sudden we saw something huge on the port side of the oiler. Got bigger and bigger and then a bunch of bright lights popped on and I immediately saw the number 61. I started to weep as I knew the history of the BB’s and to me, “they” were the US NAVY. Best UNREP of my time in the Navy. 🫡

Never in my life have I seen a model built with such painstaking attention to detail. What a beauty she is. I served with her aboard the USS Jack Williams (FFG-24) during the first Gulf War. She was a sight to see in battle as she launched her Tomahawks toward downtown Baghdad. I'll never forget that. Anyway, the Mighty Mo holds a special place in my heart and I loved watching you bring her to life right before my eyes. Thanks for that.

Saw this exact kit in store and almost bought it because of this series. Never built a boat before so that stopped me because I know I would have used your series as a guide. The amount of work you put into this thing would overwhelm me at my current skill level so I put it off. Maybe one day I'll take a stab at it, but for now I'll hone my craft until I'm able to take something like this on! Excellent work, keep making these videos as they inspire all of us to strive to do better!

I watched the whole series from the beginning, since I was also modelling the Iowa. Great to see how you handle things. It is most interesting to see how we differ in what is important to model. Once you decided to model the kamikaze strike, it would have been hard to not model the tin-canning too. Kudos to you for a great accomplishment.

Nice, clean work, as good as one can expect! Congratulations! I do not have the means to afford projects such as this, so I take great enjoyment in watching videos of genuinely delightful excellence, were technicality and artistry blend into true mastery. I can do some of this, though not to the extraordinary level you exemplify. Moreover, I have so many ideas for such projects, though even were I able to afford them, I could not accomplish a fraction of them. I wish I could hire hundreds (thousands?) of people like you to do them, and make videos detailing (and super-detailing) such build projects, and explaining how you accomplish each step. I personally would fully crew the ship, with all the defensive gunnery busily striking down air raid violators!

I am mainly a sci-fi modeler but I have built a few ships in my 50 years of model building. First of all I would like to say you did an outstanding job especially with all the hull details you did. We all make our little mistakes now and then but I must say this is the best build I have ever seen. Museum quality perhaps. I decided to change things up a bit as it's been a few years since I built a ship model. I picked up the Academy 400 scale Missouri and 600 scale Enterprise aircraft carrier models from Freetime hobbies as the size of both fit my bill and the price wasn't way out of budget. I did pick up photo etch railing for both as the give the model a more realistic look and not so toy like. Other than that they will be built out of box with whatever needs to be corrected using my own modeling skills. Seeing both kits reviews they seem to be downsized versions of the 350th Tamiya kits. The parts and the parts tree layouts seem to be identical. The Missouri measures 26 and 3/8 inches long and the Enterprise is 22 inches long. Perfect size for my space in my model room. My question for you is I mainly use Tamiya acrylics as the Model Master enamels are no longer available. I want to get the colors close and I mix my own paints many times which is not a problem for me. What Tamiya blue colors would you recommend I start with to get me close. I use the XF acrylics and I'm not worried about being exactly spot on to the measure 22 scheme just so it is somewhat close. I'm looking for getting the darker color on the hull close and the color on the wood decking. Any info would be greatly appreciated. You and your family have a Happy and Healthy New Year and stay safe.

So when I ran out of “Weather Deck Blue” I mixed my own out of other Model Master colors. I started out with a dark blue, I believe or a blue grey. Something along those lines. What surprised me was I needed to add A LOT of red to the blue in order to go the right direction for the weather deck that I had already painted. Looking at my small collection of Tamiya paints on the shelf….. I would start with a purple and add dark blue to it. The purple is “lighter” than the dark blue. But the dark blue should take you very quickly in the right direction. If it seems like it needs some grey or even green, just add them as necessary. I guess what I’m trying to say is start with just blue or something light blue. But don’t be surprised if a lot of red is the next base color.

@@TheMidwestModelShop No. I’m old, but not that old. Hehe. I have lived on Oahu all my life and have visited the ship at Pearl Harbor a bunch of times. Did they paint or stain the deck darkly during the war perhaps? Because it’s like a light silvery gray now (the deck is covered with teak planking so it won’t be slippery when wet).
@TheMidwestModelShop
@TheMidwestModelShop Жыл бұрын
During the war it was stained a dark blue so it wouldn’t stick out to enemy aircraft. After the war in late 45’ they took the stain off. It always had teak decks. It’s probably that silver color now, because of the exposure to the sun.
