Thanks, The class was wonderful but i have little problem turning verb and noun to adjectives
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher2 жыл бұрын
It's easy. Try and make the word into the infinitive form - 'to' + word to see if it works. If I have nationalise or sensitise - both will work with 'to'. If you have a subject to these forms then they are verbs. The government nationalised the banks. Noun is an idea, a feeling. Normally abstract. Nation or sensation. It can be prefaced by an article or any determiner. An adjective is ALWAYS followed by a noun. Just put a common noun like 'man' or 'idea' after it. nationalistic person; sensational movie.

@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bindu. In your sentence, you are right if you ask the question what? to the verb 'gave' But if you ask which? "everything" ? then the answer would be the adjective clause 'that I asked for' - telling us more about the noun 'everything'. So both are correct. Understand the functions.

Nice video mam, have few doubts while practicing. In the sentence "I have forgotten to play chess". I asked the question what have I forgotten which should be a noun phrase. However the answer is Adverb phrase. Can you please help me
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher Жыл бұрын
For noun phrase you ask the question who or what to the verb. Here the verb is 'have forgotten'. What? 'to play chess'. This is a noun phrase. To get an adverb phrase you need to ask the verb questions like when, where, why, how, although what?, what if? Do you get the answer 'to play chess'? No. Hence it is a noun phrase.

Ma'am I have a doubt , after classification of particular type of clause is done then while classifying it's type should we look at its subordinator ?? For Eg. = While classifying type of adverb clause should we look at it's subordinator? Also Ma'am you teach very well, I was in search of experienced and we'll versed teacher like you, Thank You.
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Soham. By subordinator I think you mean the marker like when, where, because, if, although etc. right? Yes you can look at them but they are not reliable. You need to ask the question when? where? why? how? what if? although what? etc. to the verb to get the clause as your answer. For noun clause ask the verb who? or what? to get the clause as answer and for adjective clause ask which? or what kind? to the noun (not verb) This is the acid test.

Thank you ma'am for your wonderful presentation... ❤️ Just one doubt...the sentence on the board "He went where no one went before" should have been, in my opinion, " He went where no one had gone before" if we follow the sequence of tenses. Correct me if I am wrong ma'am.

Yes you are absoluely correct. It is the better structure, though 'went' uses a bit of poetic licence and is not terribly wrong. But I agree 'had gone' is definitely more suited.

Madam, your explanation was excellent. I have a doubt. U said that the sentence the reason why I was sad is unknown is noun clause. Here I got a confusion. As u said it is an adjectival clause know. Pls check your video once. Pls clarify.

Ma'am , please discuss about transitive & intransitive verbs.
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher2 жыл бұрын
I have done this in this video:kzbin.info/www/bejne/noHLkphogLSqa7c Transitive verbs transit from subject to object position, intransitive verbs do not. Transitive verbs must have a subject and object (not complement) e.g The cat killed the rat. The rat was killed by the cat. (transitive) The bird flew in the sky. (intransitive - no object) 'in the sky' is an adverbial phrase. I am a teacher (intransitive - no object) teacher is a subject complement. Remember subjects and objects must be two different entities.
