I personally don't struggle TOO much with Washing my hair, I find the wetness satisfying (until the tangles show up) But goddamn I hate the ACTUAL washing part itself. My hair gets VERY greasy, and I'd wash my hair with shampoo, and then I'd notice the hair on the sides of my head behind the ears is still bunched up (how I first identify if my hair is greasy) and I go thinking "is my hair ACTUALLY greasy or is this just Because it's wet???" And end up putting shampoo in those parts WAY more than I need to

I'm sitting with greasy hair. I'm dreading showering. I hate the transitions and the sensory issues of coming out of the shower, especially in the winter.

Sadly to say it,but I'm strongly agree...And I hate,when water unpredictably ends in the middle of showering,it feels life all of the soap still to be,or when water from the hot goes to the icy in the 10 minutes 😦 🥶 😢.@@theminiadhdcoach

I hate having greasy hair, and I feel really self conscious if I don't feel "clean" when I go out into public. I always think someone is going to be talking badly about me or offended by my smell. At home, I don't even think about it. I also will put off showering until just before I have to go somewhere. That means I can never just run out to the store. I have to go through the whole process of cleaning up before I can just pop out for a loaf of bread. I sometimes end up getting delivery, just so I don't have to deal with the process of getting cleaned up and presentable.

It's the shedded hair STICKING TO ME. Not just between my fingers, pretty much everywhere below my scalp. So everywhere. I also tend to ruminate when showering/bathing. It can turn the bathroom into a torture chamber.
@mothdust16342 күн бұрын
if you ruminate it might help to put on a positive podcast so it overwrites your thoughts and you have nothing else to think about while you shower.

I've been following your Instagram for a little while now. I started following you, because my now girlfriend has ADHD. Your posts are super informative and a great resource, and learning more about ADHD has allowed me to better empathize with my girlfriend's situation. I love this. I have long locs and I swear... the struggle is real. I just saw this video on Substack and had to subscribe. The worst step is actually washing it, then conditioning it. Then doing it. Uggggggghhhhhhh. I will clean my scalp, but the hair is a process. I only deep wash my hair like once a month or every other month, if I have it styled. I keep my scalp clean and use rose water to keep it clean. I need to wash my hair now. Ugggghhhhh. Thank you.

Agreed that washing hair and taking a shower can be really difficult and for so many reasons like the ones you mentioned and also including the sensory sensitivity of transitioning from hot to cold when getting out of the shower to dry off.
@gingerauburnredhead80343 күн бұрын
Agreed, at some point I found I do better putting a hook/towel bar in the shower too ensure I stay as warm as possible while I dry off as quickly as possible

ALL OF THIS IS ME. Actually, after I identified that my ADHD might be contributing to my dislike of washing my hair, especially the wet sensory part ... I cut my hair very super short and can actually cut it myself so I can keep it short without having to get a haircut at the barber (perhaps the one thing I hated more than washing my hair)... and that helped a lot. Everything takes less time, hair drying takes about 30 seconds (or you can just let it dry on its own if you can tolerate the wetness), you don't have long hairs getting tangled, don't need to brush it really, you can get away with using one product, and on really bad days where you can't bear getting into the shower but still need to be presentable at work-you can wash your short hair easily in the sink under the faucet! Best hack. And you will never have hat hair again lol. I understand this isn't an option for people who like long hair, but it's the best quality of life decision I've ever made for my ADHD. Also, short hair turned out to be way cuter than long hair for me, and boosted my confidence tons.

Lol,I also have ADHD and short hairs(bcs i doesn't have enough time,to make the hairstyles),but I likes to go to the hair-salones.The my favorite part, when I'd to sit down on the chair,close my eyes and can feel the sounds of the every touch hand-massage,hair gels and masks,and skissors,to cut my hairs, it's make me so relaxed...Mostly,of the time I'm on the nerves,bcs of the study, family and job in all,but wonderfully it's only one way to calm myself and feel better soon,so I'd say it's depends by the person😅.

I never knew why I hated showering so much until I saw posts of other people... I absolutely hate the wet feeling and I have long hair. I don't like going in the shower because of all the small steps and I'm not looking forward to being wet. I postpone it as much as I can. But when the hair is greasy I know I have to be strong and just do it. And I hate to get out of the shower, I could stand there a very long time. I love the warm water running over me and I really Don't t want to step out I hateThe cold and start the drying process. I also don't like to use all those products. It's minimal care. It needs to go fast. My long hair takes a long time to dry but I have no patience to blow dry it. A good squeeze with the towel will have to do. But I hate drying it with the towel cause it's keeps dripping and I have to do too many hand movements. I try to make it as enjoyable as I can. Music, lights, warm bathroom nice smells. I also hate it when my hair tickles my face, I mostly do the same boring ponytail style, I can't have my hair loose, it needs to be out of the way. And then I see people doing very beautiful things with their hair and I wish I was the same too xD my hair is a big deal of my day to day 'troubles'. When I go outside and have to wear a hat, or my helmet or when it's windy and it blows in my mouth. I look at my boyfriends short hair and I think you don't have to deal with all this! And I do keep my hair long as it's girly and I don't want to miss it. And I'm saving it up for think pink 🩷

I have ADHD but I don't suffer like this. But I think if I did, I would just cut all my hair 😂 I mean, it's pretty short already and the amount of water and shampoo I save when it's short is substantial. 😊

washing hair is fine, but showering in general is whole other thing. I can't multitask in the shower, which is annoying, also I only shower before I get dressed or before getting to bed because getting dressed multiple times a day seems silly. I have to think to put a hair cap on if I dont need to wash my hair. Chilling in the shower is fine but doing the actual washing feels like a chore to me. And also try to remember to do my face wash there too, since I wouldn't do it otherwise but also I forget. And getting out of the shower and its cold! horror.

I always forget to wash my hair. I have to plan to wash my hair so I can accommodate all the extra sensory stuff. A few years ago, I decided to cut all my hair (going into hospital for treatment) because it got so matted in a depressive episode. I hate the feeling of the loose hair in my hands, I can't stand how I'm basically playing DJ to get the right water temp. And the moisturising, treatment, scalp care is so much. But, my hair being so short is causing so many sensory issues - temperature changes, scalp exposure (sun, wind), texture of short hair (I've always worn a hat, so I know that's always been there). I want it long again, but I'm not sure I have the bandwidth for that yet.

welp i just watched this while avoiding washing my hair 😗😗 i have curly hair which is good because i don't need to wash it very frequently but it adds a million extra steps to the routine (curl cream, detangling, finger twisting, etc etc). i've managed to cut the routine down to the most essential steps to save time (and because using gel to hold the hair and then using the blowdryer is a nightmare for me), but it's still something i need to plan ahead and i simply Don't Want To 😭

Thank you! I detest washing my hair!! I can't bear water on my face or the feel of hair dripping down my back. So I was my hair bending forward over the bathtub. I still find it boring, and painful to bend over - my hair is thick and takes a long time to wash. I dread washing it then drying it. I use a rotating hot brush (BaByliss Big Hair) so I only need to use one hand otherwise it hurts my arms and shoulders.

The more often you wash your hair, the more oils your scalp will produce. Which is why people who wash every day feel extra greasy if they skip a day. I rarely wash my hair two days in a row, and it seems I can get by without conditioner. I just use Dr. Bronner's liquid soap for everything in the shower, I start at the top and go from there. Also, I'm a man and a dirty hippie LOL so it's probably easier for me to get away with this.

I discovered that less is more. No heavy product, no blowdryer. Just use a little bit of light product to smoothen your tips, knead your curls and let it air dry. That does the trick for me and it's way less work

I started to get suspicious if I have ADHD last month, and I’ve been trying hard to learn more about ADHD. The more I learn about it, the stronger feelings that I surely have ADHD, yet none of them calling out me as much as this video before. Like, THAT’S LITERALLY ME. I always have been someone with greasy hairs all my life, bc it’s so hard for me to washing it. While I also really love my how my hair look, even though I finds it hard to properly take care of them. I also love to keep my hair long, despite my mom always tells me to cut it, since I’m not like washing my own hair. I’m also absolutely HATE going to barber shop. It’s just not comfortable to have someone do something with your hair, not to mention when they use the hair dryer. The things I’m so hate and even scared to use. It’s just too hot and I’m confused how everyone else just likes: “It’s not even that hot” Well, for me it’s like burning my head. I’m probably the type of person that would rather deal with ten cockroaches than use the hair dryer 🥲 Yeah, and bc all that. I’m in a weird terrible loops all my life. Loving my hair being long -> Find it hard to wash it regularly -> Others (usually my mom) tell me to cut it short, so I can wash it easier -> I’m hate barber shop, one big problem from they love to used hair dryer (even when I’m telling them not to use it) -> Keep my hair long, and end up love the looks of long hair on me -> repeat again 🫠🫠🫠 Anyway, thank you for making such a beautiful video!!! I’m really feeling valid and happy by knowing it’s not bc I’m just lazy. I’m plan to get diagnosed soon, but until then. I guess I’ll try to learn things more from your videos, and understand how ADHD work more!!
