I have simplified a little bit, but after this video...I am going to do it again. I already have items in quarantine, and I think it's time to get rid of those. I truly only wear 5 or 6 shirts in my closet and about 4 of my house shirts. I won't even discuss pants. 🤫 I have fluctuated from a small to an extra large over the last few years...back and forth. Trying this time around to stick to a healthy life style (it's been a year and a half, but still fluctuate between med and large.) Thank you for this encouraging video.

I always remember so fondly when I moved to the UK from Australia for a working holiday when I was 20. I had 1 large suitcase and a carry on bag. Those contained all of my possessions, including clothes, shoes, accessories etc. It was a true capsule wardrobe. I went to the laundry mat only once a week. Life was so much simpler and many times I’ve reminisced about how living out of a suit a case made life simple. This video has inspired me to simplify my wardrobe once again and regain that peace I once had all those years ago.

I cleaned out my clothes and mentioned to my fiancé that I had a bunch of stuff with holes, stains or just didn’t fit that I was getting rid of. I agree with you about only keeping clothes that fit properly. Another great tip to declutter your wardrobe is to do a personal color analysis test. It's not cheap, but it will help you to keep the clothes that make you shine and get rid of the ones that don't look good on you. And it makes shopping for new clothes waaaaayyy easier!

I had a color analysis done ten years ago and it really cut down on me buying clothes that weren't flattering on me color-wise. I take my color swatches with me when I shop so that I'm sure to buy my best colors!

I know, I'm 2 years late, but nevermind... 😀 I had a colour analysis done a couple of years ago and had an identity crisis after that, because I wanted to be the autumn-type, but I ended up being a summer-winter-mix.Thankfully the frustration only lasted for a couple of days and now I LOVE my new colours because they just make me look so much healthier 🙂 It helped me a lot with creating a more minimal wardrobe because I realised that not everyone has to or can wear black, white and beige as neutrals. Instead my basics are dark blue, wine red and forrest green and I love them 🙂

Aprons - do we know why our moms and grandmothers wore aprons? They didn't come from such a throw away, buy, buy, buy society. My mom only had 3 outfits she wore around the house and 2 dressy outfits for church or funerals or going out. She wore an apron over her clothes to protect them because that is all she had. I am thinking to have fewer clothes of better quality that I love wearing and to take better care of them. I will use my aprons!

Thank you Dawn! I saw one of your videos (I don't even remember which one) a couple of weeks ago and it has truly sparked change. I was starting to go through some depression and was constantly trying to "escape" my stress and clutter. It was just too overwhelming. I still have a long way to go and am only on my first onion layer, but already I feel like I can breath again and am finding a rekindled contentment in my home. I will watch a video and then declutter one space or drawer before I allow myself to watch another. I feel like you're a friend cheering me on along the way. =) I have gone back and watched most of your previous videos now and even though I tend to be on the more serious side have caught myself laughing out loud and something you (or Tom) say. My favorite was your 100k subscriber video where Tom and Diana were talking about you going into other people's homes and you started listing the entourage it would take to make that happen and Tom says "That doesn't seem very minimal" hahaha I actually spit out my water laughing when he said that. I just wanted to tell u that I’ve suffered from anxiety/panic attacks and depression for many years. There r ways to help put it in remission. As u know, it never truly goes away and everyone is different but when my anxiety was at its worst, I learned from different KZbinrs to b mindful of your space. For instance, keep your countertops cleared off. I tried to make around my bathtub like a spa w/Epsom salt in a pretty dish, fancy soap etc... I bought a really beautiful crystal vase and every week I pick up a pretty bouquet of fresh flowers from the grocery store. These tiny changes have really helped me and I also have had friends that come over say how relaxing and peaceful it is in my home which really made me feel good. Be patient with yourself and do what u can do when u can and eventually u will get there. I wish u the very best☺️

I somewhat did this two months ago. I removed all of my too small clothing and clothes I knew I wasn't going to wear. Then I washed all of my dirty laundry. I sorted from that what I had to have and put it away. Without looking at the rest, I put them into tubs, just dumped it in tubs, and put them in our "catch all" storage room. If I don't need them next year, I'll donate. I only own a week and a half worth of clothing. I have 1 decent dress so I'm ok. If I have to work outside of the house, I'm sunk. Thank you so much for this video. Yesterday morning I wanted to get dressed but couldn’t find anything (I’m four months postpartum for the fourth time, been here before 😅😅). Had such a meltdown, it was terrible. And I spent last Saturday thrift shopping for clothes thinking my problem would be solved- it wasn’t. I saw a recommendation for you on Cas’s Facebook page from a commenter this week- I loved your stuff immediately and have been watching a video for encouragement everyday. We recently moved and now that we’re unpacking I really learned how I had TOO MUCH to deal with. I finished your wardrobe method yesterday evening and I felt SO MUCH PEACE afterwards. It makes so much sense and even though I have the same clothes as before, and actually less even though I’d already gone through them several times, I don’t feel stressed. I have a list of a few things to fill in the gaps but I’m actually excited about it, knowing what I actually want and need for a wardrobe I’ll wear! I actually made a list on my phone of my whole wardrobe because I am a words person and I don’t have to try to remember what I liked in my wardrobe for later when my sizes are changing again. 🤷🏼♀️ Anyway, thank you again, this was seriously a lifesaver. I will be recommending this video to anyone struggling to declutter their clothes. Oh and a tip for anyone like me, I actually had to hang all my clothes because the separation of certain pants or shirts in a drawer instead of with the others hanging would make me feel all over the place.

I crave variety and so I might start by doubling your numbers, but I like this idea and I know there’s definitely many things in my closet I only have for certain occasions or things that I put on for 10 minutes and change out of every single time because it doesn’t feel right when I have it on. The best part about this is that I know I’m not ACTUALLY getting rid of the stuff and so it’s still there if I need it. I will be trying this method out! Thanks Dawn!

I love your earrings they are sooo pretty!! Still working on simplifying and I have done my closet several times. I just redid this week and I feel like there is more I can get rid of.

I think this approach will be very helpful. This year I have been purging 1 garment every time I fill a garbage bag. Sometimes they go in the bag, sometimes they go in a laundry basket I keep in the car for donations. Being 72, some of my clothes are sooo old. Last week I pulled out a pair of capris. I decided to try them on and when I pulled them up the elastic disintegrated into dust. I did not feel bad about throwing those away. My sister teased me about this approach and then she said, "That's the only way you can let go, isn't it?" Guess the answer is yes. Thanks for your insights!

I am on a weightloss journey and I am constantly keeping clothes that are too big and saying these are my comfortable jeans, or keeping clothes that I think I will fit in one day even if they are WAY too small.

I watched this video a month ago. I loved the KonMari folding method but going through each item of clothing was overwhelming. I do wear my favorite items over and over and the rest just hang out not getting used. For a year I told myself I would do the KonMari method of cleaning out clothing as I found her method so helpful for the rest of my house. Loved this video because I followed your method with some modification and in 1 hour I was done with sorting. I just ask myself " Do I wear it?" if not it . As I did a second pass while folding items to donate, return to closet or put on hold for a while I found just a few items that I wasn't ready to let go. Another few items have been hung in second space where I can see them as I wasn't ready to get rid of them, and the rest were donated that day. I usually have boxes of items to donate sitting around for months to a year. The whole process felt wonderful! YAY

I have actually already done this and carry a list on my phone. However the things on it are pretty elusive I find. Plus, well I haven’t been shopping much lately lol. It is really nice to only have things you like and are comfortable!

Yes I've been doing capsule wardrobes for three years and yes you learn what you need in your closet instead just splurging. I keep a shopping list on my phone that way I know what I need after three years I'm still curating I don't think that stops! We go through changes either body wise life style wise. If there is something I don't wear during that capsule season I either donate it if I know I will never wear it or put it back for another seasn. New subscriber!!! Great video

I've actually been working on this because I'm in between my "notmal" clothes and maternity clothes. I'm trying to be really intentional (and have a list) about my new pieces being both maternity AND nursing friendly so that I will get the most wear out of them in this ever changing season of life. Thanks Dawn for yet another simple made easy video❤❤

I just have to say I am so happy to have found you! I am really waiting until we move from our fifth wheel into the house to really minimalize but honestly, I went into my PJ/workout drawer the other day and ditched so many tshirts I dont wear or like! I dont even know why I held onto them! You have given me so much inspiration. I was such a chronic clothes holder my husband told me the other day that he was cool with getting rid of stuff and I HAD CONVINCED HIM NOT TO! WHAT!? SMH. Thank you for your inspiration! I also watched a Christmas video you did and while I had already done all my Christmas shopping, you totally inspired me for next year to go easy! I am so excited to implement all I am learning.

Question: would you do this type of wardrobe per season, us with all four seasons (winter/summer)? How do you overlap, do you store out of season clothes in bins (out of sight/mind)? Thanks so much!

Try swapping out a few items as the weather changes. Then you'll keep your choices narrow. Store your summer clothes separately than the quarantine clothes.

I think this is easier if you live somewhere with defined seasons. Here in Scotland we can have three seasons in one week. I’ve worn a summer dress then thermals and woollens two days later. The wardrobe you chose I would be able to wear for about a month in the year

the idea of quarantining some of your wardrobe really resonated with me! I recently decluttered my closet and found group of things that probably needed to go... but I couldn't. I used your idea, They were quarantined. I wrote note in my calendar to donate the quarantine box in 6 months if I havent even thought of them. Good idea!!

Omg. I watched this an hour ago and now I have two large bags of clothes (and hangers)for donation. Surprisingly it only took 50 minutes to become free from my endless closet. Yesterday I went thru half of my cabinets. You have really inspired me. Thank you very much.

I donated my wedding dress after 30 years of holding onto it to a group that makes the dresses into burial gowns for babies that passed away. Or just donate to any thrift store. I gave my veil to my neighbor that has 4 girls to play dress up with. Only thing I regret is not doing it sooner.

3 days back I came across your video and have been decluttering a bit everyday. Have completed my clothes, paper clutter, few drawers. It feels really good. I keep in mind that if I don't feel like decluttering, I can give myself the option of 5 minutes and that makes it easier. Happy to declutter !!! Thank you. Keep the videos coming !

This is so great! A couple of years ago I got rid of 3/4 of my clothing and shoes. I didn’t miss anything and it made everything, from picking an outfit to doing laundry, so much easier! It’s about time for me to do it again.

Thankyou!! My husband and I just finished the ideas you shared with us. What a difference in our clothes closet. We have buckets on the floor instead of dressers, so we minimized those as well. His clothes he choose to keep, archive, and give away only literally took 10 minutes, but mine was the rest of the hour to finish. Love the way it looks and especially how it feels!! Again thankyou for sharing!!

Plus, if you have all your favorites in your closet and everything looks FANTASTIC on you... why not wear them more often??? Show them off! I've got this one lovely flowy floral top that I thrifted for like $4 back in like January... and I'd wear that thing 7 days a week if I thought I could get away with it!!! 😄

Try buying solid color pieces and changing the look up each time you wear it by using scarves or fashion jewelry. People will notice the print on the scarf or the color & style of the necklace (or brooch or earrings) more than the plain blouse/dress under it. Scarves and fashion jewelry can be (lots) cheaper than clothing and take up much less room.

In a previous video, you said something addressing expensive items, that could potentially be sold/consigned. You stated something like, do you know how excited you are finding an amazing deal (great item, at a great price), and that you could be that for some one else. That offhanded comment, was KEY for me as I went through my clothes. I keep thinking this item was expensive (still had value) and someone else is going to think they scored! It was worthless to me, and actually negative to me... Took up space, guilt, bad feelings... But to someone else it was a major find! Seriously girl, thanks. Blessings.

I went through all of my clothes and accessories using the KonMari method and got great results, including losing 30lbs. I had so many clothes (including ones with tags still on them) and nothing to wear, just as you said. It has been two years and I have managed to accumulate a closet full again. I’m glad you discussed this today to remind me that I don’t need to keep purchasing random items just because it’s cute or on sale. I’ve ended up with a lot of items that don’t go with anything I already own. I plan to tackle these items this weekend. Thank you for the motivation.

Retail stores entice us to buy more! Being home, it’s where we wear them Now. My older sister, now age 81, dresses up for church in her living room each Sunday. Ha! But also dresses up to go get groceries. It’s an interesting thought of how we are now being ‘forced’ to look at the use of our wardrobes differently. We both swap jewelry. Don’t donate items. Try giving items/accessories to friends, family first. I save earrings to give as birthday and holiday gifts. This will save you $ this year. Great you lost the weight! Congratulations!
