I'm a recovering addict who has done just about every drug out there. In 2014 I was homeless and started smoking pcp bc it was around and the other homeless addicts I was hanging out with were doing it. I had heard of "wet brain" but didn't think it happened unless you did this stuff for years. After doing it for a couple weeks, I noticed a difference in myself. I know if I had kept doing it I probably would have caused some irreversible damage. One of my dealers that I met in September 2015 was completely normal. He was on parole so he wasn't doing anything but once he was off he started smoking pcp daily. Constantly. Im less than a year he became homeless and is, to this day, a completely different person. He wanders the streets in dirty clothes talking to himself just totally spaced out. Truly looks like a zombie. It was kind of sad to watch happen tbh. PCP is a scary drug. It's super unpredictable as well.

Just to make a point. I became pregnant unexpectedly at age 37. I was on Prozac and was taken off it when the doctor found out I was with child. That is terrible. All antidepressants are incredibly dangerous and they should completely be banned. I have seen and heard so many horror stories. One of my friends developed spinal damage just from taking them in her early twenties. Her body did not react right to them at all and she gained about 50 pounds in just a few months. My younger sister tried to kill herself multiple times in her twenties when they kept switching her antidepressants and mood stabilizers and all of that. Nothing was working and they were all causing horrendous effects, she said reality didn't even feel real anymore and she didn't know who she was. She barely got out of bed and her life got so much worse. She lost her job and everything. She finally came off of everything and it was like 6 months of torture still after that. I'm so glad I have never taken one of those things in my life, I got a terrible feeling about them from the beginning when as a teenager I saw how they didn't even listen to anything I was saying but they were so quick to try to force those things on to you. Red flags went up and I'm glad they did.

While I agree that mental illness needs a brighter spotlight, I am so tired of hearing these babies get abused/killed. We MUST do better protecting the children. I currently have temporary custody of my grandson. Both parents are addicts who struggle to clean up even though they had a child. My son has gotten clean and maintains a job but in no way is ready for daily fatherhood. The baby's mom continues to do drugs popping in and out of the picture 1-2 times a year. I worry about the state considering returning him or trying to. I'm prepared to fight to make sure that doesn't happen. But all too often the focus is more on keeping a child with a biological parent at any cost and all too often, the cost is at the child's expense.

@@sourgreendolly7685 Thank you. I couldn't have said it better myself. While raising children is a learning process that ALL parents must go through, having a parent that may or may not get high, may or may not feed/clothe, etc is not something I would consider part of that learning process. The most important thing to raising a child (outside of love) is a safe and stable environment. He has every opportunity to be IN his son's life (phone calls, visits, etc.) Yet he has this mentality that you either have custody or it's not important. My son will be the one that suffers from not being involved. It will catch up to him. In the meantime, my grandson will not be privy to it as long as I can help it. We just try to make sure he knows he is loved and wanted and that none of it is or will ever be his fault.

And they took her son away several times. When she wasn’t using that shit for weeks or months at a time she was clearly doing better with being on her Prozac. If she completed every class ect they told her to they are supposed to give her son back! Reunification is ultimately their goal. Mental health problems & addiction is not their forte’ all they can do is require her to attend whatever classes or counseling until she gets her son back because she’s done what she should, that’s the extent of it for them. She should’ve sought out help for her addiction and kept seeing a doctor regularly for her mental health! She’s an adult and a mother it’s her responsibility to stay clean & healthy.

As someone who's mother had issues with substances, and otherwise just not being a good mother, DCFS failed here. They fail all the time. They need to rework DCFS and the foster care system from the ground up. They won't. I'm the oldest of 4 sisters, and we needed to be taken from our mother. I took care of my sisters and my mother growing up. I made sure bills were paid and food bought before mom could sell our food stamps. People would call CPS/DCFS on my mother multiple times. As a child, I helped keep the family together. I lied and said things were fine. They should have seen they weren't. I was in elementary school. How good of a liar could I have been?? We were abused by my mother, her friends, her boyfriends, and sometimes their families when they lived with us. 4 adults and 11 kids in a three bedroom apartment at one point! The world fails people on so many levels, but the fact that it starts when we're children is super effed up.

No way her son should have been in her care. It's sad, because it sounds like she absolutely loved him and I understand why you'd think a woman who loved her son would be good for her son. She needed much, much closer care and intervention for much longer than they were doing. I have sympathise with both of them. And their extended family and even the neighbours. Discontinuing day-care is a huge problem. Day-care provides a point of contact and a reason to maintain a routine involving others.

So sad, I always wonder why birth control/vasectomies aren't incentivised with addicts, like higher welfare payments if they get an IUD etc. Legalising all drugs would be a great start too, could regulate production & materials then tax the profits and put it back into health care, especially Mental Health Services which is the root cause of addiction in most cases. Hurts to hear this kinda shit happening to innocent little kids over & over again & whatever we're doing now obviously isn't helping! Take care and I hope Ur both keeping well, listening to these cases can be hard so researching these cases must be really heavy on the heart✌🏽❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I am in recovery from opiates for 6 years now but before my oldest daughter was born about 15 years ago I smoked dust/pcp for about 2 years straight. I knew somebody who literally lost his mind and tied his girlfriend up in the closet and kept her there for 3 days. I had a friend who wound up in a mental hospital indefinitely and didn't even remember his name anymore. I know a kid who was high on PCP and was trying to be detained by the police and it took 7/8 super strong big tough police officers to subdue the guy and they barely had a grasp on him. I am thankful I did not have that severe of a reaction. But what I will tell you is 15 years later my short-term memory is horrible. I can't remember seeing somebody tells me 5 minutes ago and I 100% blame PCP for that. I have done lots of drugs in my lifetime, but that drug scares the ever loving crap out of me

My ex husband died at age 33 from serotonin syndrome. He was bipolar and prescribed several SSRIs and lithium despite being a known recreational abuser of over the counter cold medicine. The day he died he was normal, picked our kids up from school, helped with homework. Then he apparently took our daughter to Walgreens with him and got OTC cold medicine and went with her to visit his parents. His parents had dealt with his abuse of cold medicine a couple times a year since he was 16. He would hallucinate and sleep. This time was no different and his mother was irritated her son had relapsed and abused cough syrup again but never thought he was in danger. He had done this so many times before with no physical consequences. He spiked a high fever and passed out and was rushed to the hospital. He died shortly after arriving. I had never heard of serotonin syndrome before. I have since spoken with psychiatrists and pharmacists that know very little about it and how even the most benign over the counter meds can interact with prescribed meds and cause serotonin syndrome to occur. It’s terrifying. Please do research and don’t depend on anyone else to know the dangers for you.

It is sad the choices, people make. She started down that path and needed help making correct choices afterwards. Obviously, it isn’t as cut and dry as that. It’s behavior, environment, and thought patterns, that must be changed with intense therapy and willingness to try. Most people won’t admit to what drives them to seek altered states. Furthermore, someone can be clean for many years - and still relapse. I’ve seen it first hand as a child and an adult. Addiction is a disease and sufferers need psychological, community, and medical help.

I don't know if anyone will get this reference, but there's a part in the "Doctor Who" episode 4.9, "Silence in the Library," where they're listening to a dead person's thought patterns degrade, like a copy of the person's consciousness. The same phrases keep repeating, but it makes no sense, etc. It's the worst part of the episode, and it's exactly what the 911 call reminded me of. It was like Chevonne was already gone, and the dispatchers were just listening to bits and pieces of her that the drugs left behind. If you've seen it, you probably know what I mean. If you haven't, I probably just gave you a headache, which wasn't my intention 😌

I’m on Wellbutrin, which is a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor and it’s been a life saver. I didn’t even know that was an option. The state failed this woman, and her child. Yeah I would say yes I do hold CPS partially accountable because they've already been through this once with this woman why was there no caseworker why was there no one showing up on a constant basis giving her drug urinalysis and why was she just given full custody in the first place it should have been like visitation moving into custody because they didn't know what was going to happen I mean I'm sure she went to some kind of treatment the first time and that's fine but that doesn't necessarily mean that she's all better and that a baby should be left in her care 24/7. I don't blame the family at all they had no choice they had to listen to what CPS said so personally I think that the child should have been left in the care of her mother until she had gone through visitations and successfully had clean urine and showed up the visitations clean and not high and showed true love for her daughter then maybe she should have gotten some kind of custody maybe even just partial to begin with. It's a shame what people Miss because they just trust things from the outside even though it's their job to dig deeper and find out what might really be going on. I'm sorry though I don't think anybody in there craziest worst thoughts would think that somebody would do this to their baby. I really feel like during the phone call to 911 she's coming out of her high and that's why she's saying she needs money because she's realizing when she's saying I knew it I knew it that she did kill her baby and it wasn't just a hallucination. Otherwise she would have already killed herself so it sounds really creepy listening to her go from rationality to nope nope nope nope I don't want to deal with this I need more drugs I can't believe this is really happening and then taking her own life because she really truly finally realized she killed her only child and in such a horrible way! Just a really sad heartbreaking story all around and my heart and prayers go out to the family I can't even begin to imagine.

It's no one's fault but the 'mother' and her drug use. If you love drugs so much, don't raise a child.

most addicts don't 'love' the drug they're addicted too lol. drug addiction is a lot more complex than that.
