Got myself a 2013 version of the R due to all the positive reviews I've seen for road use. Absolutely love it, don't plan on ever selling it.

I have 2018 Street Triple R (U.S. version if there is such a thing), both headlights illuminate on mine. I decided to get this bike after riding my son's 2012 Street Triple R. Both he and I think this 2018 version is a bit better in performance. Since I do not plan to run this bike on a track, I feel the R version is the best of the three for my purposes. When I hit 8,000 RPMs this bike really produces power. Thanks for another great video. I look forward to more on this Street Triple R. I also have a 2017 Bonneville T120 Black. I have to remind myself not to try to ride the T120 the way I ride the Street Triple R, or I scrape foot pegs and brake pedals.

I ended up getting the 2020 striple R. I wish they had the TFT displays on mine but I mean the quick shifter is nice. I think I would have rather had the TFT display because you can always buy a quick shifter after the fact you can't upgrade the display. Seems kinda dumb of them to literally down grade something.

Hi Mr Flyer another great review as always. Just wanted to add that you never mentioned the 765 S base model in your review, only the R & Rs. As the owner of an S model I want to add that it too is an amazing motorcycle. Even though it hasn’t got all the whistles & bells of the the other models. It still has that beautiful sound track and handling & would make a great choice for anyone on a lower budget. I’ve had loads of bikes (mainly Yamaha) but this is my first Triumph and it’s the best bike I’ve ever owned. It just drips with quality & doesn’t rust and fur up like yams! Give it a go if you get the chance 👍🏻

I bought a black one in October (OEM options: bar end mirror in black, CNC machined front reservoir, tail tidy and quickshifter). I removed all the safety stickers, changed the tires to the M7RRs, got a lighter battery from Antigravity and fitted the Yoshimura Alpha-T works. It's absolutely insane... Oh, and that left bulb is defective, man.

Another great review TMF and keep up the great work. Picked up a Street Triple 14R ABS this year (1960 miles on it) and absolutely love the bike. Tail Tidy, Bar End mirrors and Shorty Levers have definitely improved the looks after changing them. Quickshifter and aftermarket can next year 'should' complete the mods. Sadly my Kawasaki ZZ-R600 will succumb to the ULEZ so another sports tourer will be on the cards. Radiator guard for the STR is also well worth the investment. Keep riding safe!

Revzilla did a review and showed the power curves of the two bikes. It's not just that the RS simply has an exponential portion toward the end of its powerband. That comes at the cost of a midrange power dip that the R does not have. It has a different cam. The R makes wonderfully linear power right up to its peak, which is just a little shy of the RS's. I agree that's a far better response for someone riding on the street who isn't going to be riding around at 10k+ rpm for long periods of time as they would on a track. Just too many great bikes out right now. It's driving me crazy! The worse part is that nobody rides motorcycles anymore, so they sit in the shops taunting me. I love the white. Nice sparklies in the sun.

Sir, you ever find yourself in Alberta Canada you have a place to stay here in Alberta. Only 2.5 hours away from the Rocky Mountains and a 2 day ride to the NW USA. We headed to Montana last year on our Trophy SE and absolutely loved it. I even have a spare 2012 V Strom if you need something to ride. Lots of open roads with little traffic. I moved here 22 years ago from the UK the views on a bike will take your breath away. Thanks for the videos you are helping me get thru the winter months when the bikes are tucked away in the Garage!!! Ride Safe!!

Thanks again for another excellent review. Remembering when 750cc were the big bikes. Always interested in Triumph 'new tech'. A number of issues came up recently on my Trophy SE - appear to be related to inadequate pre delivery setup. Finally going in for the initial 600 mile service this week. A number of oriental manufacturers have introduced naked triples; want to see a head to head comparison between them and the Triumphs. Keep up your good works.

I heard the single light on dip beam is a "Euro" thing, apparentely so car drivers don't confuse a bike with twin lights for a distant tractor. I've never seen tractor lights that low mind you lol. My 2008 CBF600S had the same arrangement, but the left one was dip beam. Great review as always, RSMF

Excellent review as usual! My 2010 STR currently has 50,000 kms on it and I love riding it now as much as when I first bought it. It has benefited from many performance mods over the years such as Arrow 3-1 exhaust, KyleUsa linear linkage with Ohlins TR805 shock (an amazing improvement in handling and ride). I replaced the terrible stock seat with a Sargent sport seat which was a huge improvement in comfort. With a Supersprox 520 conversion with a +2T rear sprocket the bike's performance is now not too far off the new ones. The only nasty bugaboo to develop was an intermittent broken wire in the ignition harness, causing loss of starting, which was difficult to track down. IMO the ignition key should be in a stationary spot (to prevent wire breakage) with a separate key for the steering lock. Do my own tuning with TuneEcu and recently did a throttle body balance which made the engine much smoother. A fantastic street bike; mine is so fast it can easily hit 160-170 kmph on an 80 kmph back-road around here just rolling on the throttle in top gear and the handling is simply effortless. It is definitely a keeper but one should remember to keep up proper maintenance.

Good review sir! I had the chance to ride the Street S when it first came out back in July. I also felt the seat was a little hard when I first sat on it, but it did not get any worse over the 150 or so miles I did on it and the induction roar from 6k is intoxicating! Yes the headlamp bulb is definitely blown. The S returned 51 mpg over fast A & B roads and the Nissin brakes were more than up to the job when an elderly driver pulled out very late on me on a roundabout! Bet it would be a great Bike on the Gran Canaria rods!

Have to agree that something like the street triple or any mid capacity street bike is really more than enough for road riding, especially in the UK, the roads there are perfect for mid capacity bikes, lots of corners and narrow roads. My big gripe with lots of newer bikes is the lack of decent size pillion seat - subframe, so much harder to strap gear onto, they need to be just a bit bigger then you could strap on a dry bag with all your gear and do the bigger rides without a problem, back packs become a pain after awhile. You need to take your street triple and do that run around Scotland, I think it would be much more fun than the GS.

Hi TMF, Love the blog been watching since end of 2016 since I finally got around to getting my first bike (Mutt Mongrel 125). So, 3 years and around 25k later, I'm ready to jump to a bigger bike. I've got a budget of five grand and I'm looking at either a SV650 (2017-9) or an older Street Triple (2012-15). I probably know the answer to this which would you recommend, bearing in mind that this'll be my go-t bike for the foreseeable future. I live in north east London and commute to central London each day unless it's icy/snowing, obviously), scratch around the Essex loop on the weekends and do the (very) occasional trip to Cornwall and back to visit the folks.

Every single thing you've noted agrees with me. I have a '13 Street Triple R that I have fitted heated grips (Oxford) and the quick-shifter to; it's my pride and joy, I love my bike. Everything you say about the new version is spot on. I've never noticed 1 headlight though I have not looked. Seems an issue to me; I have fitted Cyclops LED (which are made for halogen reflector housings) and having both headlights on matters to me. I had my own '13 bike's seat redone by Spencer's seat modifications (down in Florida) last year and he did wonders with it. The new bike - if I bought one - would get that done right off the jump for me. He's a genious.

Nice review TMF, can’t wait for your review of the 2018 Tiger 1200, particularly the XRT variant. This bike ticks all of the box’s for me, in particular shaft drive and the new TFT screen. I still blame the speedo on my GS1200 TE for making me attend a speed awareness course for being caught doing 36 in a 30 zone. I find it very difficult on the BM to see the speedo reading. Well, that’s my excuse.

Excellent review as usual, TMF. Although I now live in Somerset, it's interesting to see my old stomping ground of south Buckinghamshire on the videos. Being an owner of a 2009 Street Triple R, I'd be inclined to modify that head lamp so that both bulbs came on for dipped beam. It would take only a couple of feet (that's 600mm for the metrics out there) of wire to connect the other light. I've actually modified my '09 model, such that the head lamps do not illuminate until the starter button is pressed and released - easy mod.

I've owned the 765 R since June and i love it. The front bulb is out on that machine as both come on on mine on dipped. I tend to get about 120 miles per tank in winter and about 140 in the summer but that is with lots of small journeys, i have got it up to 150 miles per tank on a long trip in September. Lastly to screen is changed by ambient light as when i start the bike in my garage it always comes on in night mode but when i turn it on outside it comes on in daylight mode

Again a great video. I'm taking it this was shot a few days ago. Just watched the news here and the weather in Blighty doesn't look too conducive to motorcycling at present. Not to gloat "much" but we have just broken a 60yr record for the number of days without rain here in Canterbury (NZ) and have had another 30degree day. They are getting a little tiresome actually as riding in this weather is a wee bit uncomfortable to say the least. Hopefully your present bad weather doesn't last too long and you get some nice days for riding soon. Nice bike. Funny to hear you giving torque and power specs at revs that my Beemer can't even reach. That ice warning is insane. I just get to use the fact that my face and fingers are numb as a means of judging the outside temp. The less face and fingers I can feel, the colder the weather. Stay safe.

YES YES YES. Your occasional revelation of personal nuance makes it clear we have much in common. In this case it's people who don't use turn indicators; professional drivers indeed! :) The Triple sound is fantastic but Triumph needs to do some thing about the Frankenstein fly-eyes headlight; it's horrendous how they just hang onto the bike like that.

Just rode one recently, same model, same year (short video on my channel) and mine has the heated grips button on the left wrist. Only other difference that I could spot is that it didn't have the LED turn signals unfortunately. Sweet bike, having a tough decision deciding between this and the KTM 790 Duke, which already comes with the up/down quickshifter but doesn't have adjustable suspension or as good brakes.

Great review, I'm hoping to get a new bike in 2018 all being well and I've narrowed it down to the Street triple R or a MT 09. I briefly rode the RS at Hughendon's thought it was a great machine if a little focused but a lot of bang for your bucks. Will hopefully be able to test ride the "R" and the "MT" on a fine day sometime in the new year to decide. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ride safe

This is what biking is all about for me. Fun all the way but useable on a daily basis. If you add quick shifter the price would be up there with the RS I guess and you’d get the ohlins . They know how to price these. I like white. Is red an option this year? It’s very nice.

Great review. Very informative indeed. I test rode one over a month ago. Loved the bike. But was concerned on how it would do on an interstate in that it is so light. How did you find it in that situation ? My test ride was not all that I wished it would be in that I was unable to take it on all kinds of roads/riding situations. I plan on going back to the dealership at some point to take it out for another test ride. It seems a fitting evolution from Triumph's 1960s era legendary Triumph Bonneville 650 (the then Super Bike of a generation) more so than their other current motorcycles just saying.

Fantastic stuff. One thing I do not get is how much of a difference the quick shifter makes (I understand it’s only up not down?) compared to clutchless upshifts? I only used clutch on 1st gear on each bike I owned. I mean road use not shaving 10ths on the track... now for a blipper... this I would definitely have.

I hace the RS and QS is really nice thing. Everyone who has one loves it. I just.. like it :) I'm not using it all the time, from 1 to 2 you should use clutch anyway. But it is FANTASTIC thing when you're fully accelerating (e.g. overtaking, not even speaking about track riding). You still have FULL throttle and just - bang - next gear - bang - next gear... and you feel constant PULL/acceleration.

Hi TMF, thank you for this great review. Watching your video, something struck me. This autumn, I test drove the street triple RS and noticed a bulb was out. If by any chance you had the opportunity to speak to someone at Triumph it would be interesting to know if they have issues with bulbs. The RS I drove had about 3k miles on the clock so nearly new and certainly too new for a bulb to burn. If Switzerland is on your list for a trip don't hesitate to ask, I'll be more than happy to help!

TheMissendenFlyer I’m looking to but a street triple shortly but can’t decide between the R and the RS. I don’t do track days but do do a lot of town riding and commuting, plus I’m a shorty so would probably go for the low ride height version of the R if I picked that. Problem is if I did pick the R would I always be thinking I picked second best. It’s one of those head and heart situations. Heads saying R is cheaper and more suited to the type of riding I do. But my heart is saying get the fast one and quick shifters are cool 😎

TMF, I'm looking at this new Street Triple R and have test ridden the bike earlier this Fall. It was definitely faster than my 13' Street Triple S, but what are your thoughts comparing this bike to the FJ-09? I'm using the bike mainly for commuting to work and weekend rides occasionally. I did not like the seating position compared to my Street Triple, feeling as though I was sitting on top of the bike, compared to sitting in the bike, as with my Street. I also test drove the FJ-09 in the Fall as well, feeling that the bike was similar to a supermoto riding position, with the powerplant of a street bike. Cool machine, but the Triumph seems like a much better equipped machine. I know we are not comparing apples to apples, but any thoughts? Thanks and I love your page! Greg-Pomona, NY

At 13:16 when you were saying only one light goes on low beam that is not true the bulb is burnt out both bulbs are H4 or 9003 depending on what country you are they are dual filament meaning that they have a high and low built into each bulb (For some reason the low goes out first i would assume because it is on more often). I have a 2017RS and have had plenty of problems with it blowing bulbs. In 5,000 miles I have gone through 8 sets of bulbs. I have no idea what the problem is but in a number of press releases I have seen these bikes running with one bulb burnt out. They must know of the problem but keep telling me that they have never had one person have a similar problem. I love every part of this bike accept for the headlights but I have no idea why they cant put a set of killer bright LED lights on this bike at its price point. Going back to triumph on this Friday to have another specialist try to fix the problem. Also the TFT display has started(in the last 100 miles) to shutter or cut out when at high revs just before redline. Thanks for the video I hope this helps you out with the light problem!!!
@ryanbrown7240
@ryanbrown7240 7 жыл бұрын
Also after 5,000 miles the reflectors inside the headlight are cracking from the heat of the bulbs I do not know if this is related to the heat of the bulbs or the problem with the bulbs blowing from over ampage but none the less it is happening.

As a guy that has ridden a street triple 675, a 765 RS and a 765 R, would you say the additional pricing for the 765 RS is worth it over the 765R for a fairly casual rider coming from a 2015 675 RX? OK, found it. Good observations but my experience of the two bikes was a bit different. I'm a good bit larger than you and i found the Street a little cramped and busy. I could see taking it out for a track day but maybe not riding it all the way to the track. I have taken my speed on several 1000+ mile trips as well as track days and the usual back road blasts. For me the speed is the perfect all-around bike. I guess that's why Triumph makes both :) BTW, A set of Arrow cans does wonders for the Speed, has it snarling and popping like a thing possessed.
