As always I enjoyed your excellent review. I owned a 2014 str and now have a 2018rs. The two are definitely from the same concept, but to my meager skill the new bike handles much better than the old in all ways. It is more stable at highway speed, it doesn't feel like it wants to flop over at low speed turns like my older one did, the new one pulls much harder and longer than the old motor which sometimes felt lacking, and the suspension was like there was none-very rock hard shock. The older bike was a great one, but the new one really is a big step up in my observations...especially the tech and components (no comparison really) but then, like you, I am rather fond of my new girl ;)

Owen Laing is the arrow can much louder than stock? Im looking for a new exhaust n not too sure what to get
@OwenK667 жыл бұрын
red hiney I went for the “US Spec” with the removable baffle, I wouldn’t say it’s significantly louder however it has a much deeper tone and you hear the distinctive triple noise a lot lower in the Rev range. It also sounds crisper in my opinion. If you’re looking for decibel levels I wouldn’t go for it but if you just want to emphasise the noise then I’d go arrow.
@aimeYM17 жыл бұрын
HI Red Hiney . Compared with the old street, the 2018 Arrow exhaust with the baffle out is muted. Compare with the stock exhaust, there isn't much difference, eve though Arrow is slightly louder. But it looks so good, really good. Other aftermarket exhausts such as Yoshimura or SC project sound far better, but they are so ugly on the bike as the catalytic converter isn't present. If you want a good sound, forget Arrow. If you want a good looking bike, Arrow is the only way to go.

Great review as always, I’ve seen a few, I’m commenting for the first time as a 50 something yr old midlife crisis male who was all set for a KTM Duke 890 R ….. then I came across the Street triple, had a spin on an 2015 model and it blew me away, went in to a dealer a couple weeks ago, he said we got the launch for the new 2023 model in 3 days, say no more back we go and put an order in for the R model in Crystal White, collection due for mid-March, can’t wait .

I just got a 2013 triumph Street triple S in the beautiful blue color. She only has 1819 miles on the bike, and never been in the rain. I had concerns about the bike but after watching your video I am very very happy. It's my first road bike I have been riding dirt bikes most my life. But I don't recover from injuries like I used to I'm getting old. I will be picking her up this weekend from the dealer and I am so excited. Shows you how much triumph got it right first time and that they know it. No need to upgrade if you have the older one. This bike would be not so good over here due to every road being long and dead straight. Perfect for UK though. Think I’d only look at this or one of the BMW air cooled jobs, enough of everything for normal road use with a bit of fun.

Had a 2010 'STR' and to be honest I thought the 2012 model was the one where they'd lengthened first gear from the one I had. Bike I owned is certainly the best I've ever had and seriously keen on returning to the Street family this spring. One thing I will miss is those under-slung exhausts that first got me really excited about the looks of the STR, but in today's world the new STR is hardly an ugly bike given the competition! Nice review mate, lovely to see a genuine comparison of the two. Might have to replace the exhaust with something with less weight though - even if the noise doesn't need it.

Woohoo 50k, well done sir! Personally speaking, having never ridden a new Triumph model, (last one was a 70's Bonny 750) I have to say forget the tft screen, I prefer the looks of your bike. Especially the upswept exhausts, being twin cans, looks more symmetrical. Anyway, just a silly point, have you upgraded your brake hoses as is supposed to be done at 4 year intervals? Might help the braking difference! RSM8, keep the content coming.

Great comparison, thanks. The one good thing about being impoverished is that I can be very happy on someone else' cast off older model without ever knowing how much better the newest model is. Unless I'm foolish enough to take a 'joyride' on a dealer's demo model.

More Triple goodness! The under-saddle exhausts were a big reason I got the 2012 Street R rather than a newer version a couple of years ago (also agree that personally I prefer the 2012 lights outline to the new shape). Still loving it! If I was going to 'upgrade' then I guess I would have to consider the Speed with the under-saddle exhausts rather than a new Triple but the 2012 Street R is so good at giving the fun factor and performance that I'd have to agree that there's no real reason to swap!

Love my '16 STR but the two things I'd change, if I could, are the restrictive cat and the narrow profile seat. Ye old bike looks MAGNIFICENT with the gold wheels and black body. Reminds me of the 1972 John Player Special LOTUS 72D. Undertail xhaust was all the rage when I started looking at bikes with "bad intentions and ideas" and still is when done well. The headlights on the new one wouldn't stop me from buying it but in between the 2 I rather prefer the 2012. Less Insectoid looking.

What impresses me is the tightness and build quality of these, vs. the 1960s and 70s Triumphs and Nortons. I had both, and had to fiddle with both endlessly. The electrics (Lucas) were marginal as was the metallurgy. Even the old bolts and screws were soft and cross-threaded or stripped very easily. Funny that in those days a 650cc was a big bike. Now, it's practically a starter. If I heard right and they upped the Street to 765cc that's a good size for me. I do like a liter (-re) bike though for inter-city fun. I am bikeless now, but am studying the Speed and Street Triples intensely. Nearby, there's a beautiful used 2012 Speed for sale for only US$6800. PS Love your "round the block" ride. Are those what you Brits call "estates?"

The 2012 bike is great, wife owned a beautiful purple one its biggest downside was lack of ABS which sadly contributed to her crash in the wet in 2015. Once her broken arm mended I'm pleased to say she bought a 2015 Street (The model between the two in your vid) Its proved to be a great bike although we went one tooth down as first gear was so tall. Fuel consumption was much improved on the 2015 compared to the 12.

Many thanks MissendenFlyer for this great video. it is informative and cool. Keep up the good work. One thing: you didn't compare the sound as you normally do.I have a 2018 Street R and I have an impression that even though it has the new Arrow exhaust, the sound isn't good at all. The old Street sounds far better and louder. I wasted my money ; and if I knew that Arrow was too muted, I wouldn't have bought it (but i must admit, Arrow exhaust looks awesome). Also I find the ABS a little bit intrusive. Will you agree with me with the above impressions? What is your experience if you compare back to back both bikes. Thanks

Right in my wheelhouse. It's a shame I could not lend you my 2013 Street Triple R so you could do 3 generations of comparison. I would have to agree with everything you said, even most of your subjective opinions. I've fitted the quick shifter to mine, bar end mirrors, anodized brake reservoirs, retrofitted the headlights to LED (Cyclops, *massive upgrade IMHO) and fitted lots of other upgrades (more than I could spend hours carrying on about!), tweaks and absolutely love my bike for all the same things you note. One thing I noticed between your '12 and my '13 is on the front calipers your's have the brake lines running to the right caliper then 'crossing over' to the left; on mine, they are arranged more like the current gen one line to each for the brake lines. Now given that the Nissan calipers on your '12 and my '13 (I've upgraded the pads to EBC Sintered) are the same, I wonder if they'd feel/behave any differently. I suspect marginally so, but it's interesting. Between you and I, there is one difference of opinion - I prefer the lowboy exhaust over the dual config your '12 (I have a Leo Vince Factory S can fitted to my bike, which I love). But it is remarkable how similar in taste you and I are and especially on Triumph Street Triples. Your Street Triple videos are how I actually found your videos on KZbin and your channel overall is one of my absolute favorites - your general manner, your humor, your experience and attention to detail you put into your videos have made it a clear 'notification squad' check for me every time you post one. Many a lunch has been spent here watching your uploads and I thank you for putting in the work! When was the last time you bled your brakes? The link hose that runs over the mudguard can accumulate air in it. When you bleed them you need to remove the right hand calliper and elevate it by tying it to the handlebar. For the record, ABS brakes can be a nightmare to bleed.
@nigelren37197 жыл бұрын
If you want better braking, try double lines that run straight from the master cylinder to each calliper.

Had the same setup on my Tiger 800. The garage had 'serviced' the brakes, then I took the calipers off the bike, cleaned and greased them (they hadn't) and changed the fluid (properly). Also took the glaze off the pads with a wire brush. It was night and day.

Nice video, a massive street fan myself, I've got a 14 R and have only ridden the new RS from the 765 reincarnation, I was very impressed and thought it was a reasonable step on from my 14, the biggest difference for me was the handling, I found it a lot less top heavy than the older models, and the ride a lot more composed on the roads (the 14 R is quite known for being a little harsh) also i love that engine, much more similar to the daytona. I believe the RS actually has Supercorsas. Slightly off topic and i know it's not a current model but do you have any intentions doing a video on the Daytona 675r?

Very interesting video. I haven't been hankering for a test ride of the new triple to be honest, I rather think I'd have pretty much the same reactions you've had. I could argue that the changes made aren't radical enough to make me want to trade in but the counter point would be why change a winning formula. I can't agree with the your headlight view I'm afraid, older school round headlights owner here. I think the current style is more appealing than the Dame Edna style. P.S., just took the likes to 500. ;-)

Funny how this video drops on the same day MCN does a Monster 821 Vs Street Triple R review... You must be psychic 😂 Never ridden one - Perhaps I ought too?
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
Yes I saw that too - nice to see the Street Triple won as well :0)

TheMissendenFlyer It’d be hard for the triple not to win; Ducati seem to be pumping out ‘box of bits’ street bikes at the moment (IMHO of course...)

Thanks again for another cracking video - Subbed at 50k - well done Sir. Your electric bike video shocked me with your enthusiasm in relation to a tripple purchase.! How was your right heal near exhaust, any heat ?

looking at them side by side, for me, your black and gold 2012 knocks spots off the new one. Cracking looking bike, guess it helps with me being of the JPS Lotus vintage.

Nice comparison, as Mr Flyer. So there have been improvements, but not night and day. Looks like it's down to how much you like the styling over the previous versions. A tough one would be, do you go for the R or the RS should you be looking to buy new, given the price difference vs the ohlins suspension, bigger brembos (I think) and a quick shifter? No plans on changing my 2016 but do have a quick shifter to go on...must do that soon...
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
Every Street Triple deserves a quickshifter - and the Triumph one is a pearler - stick it on ASAP!
@Vernon2407 жыл бұрын
well, the sun is shining, so it should be done...and it is the triumph one, so I'm anticipating little trouble (famous last words) so yes, instructions downloaded and it will be going on very soon.

Looks good in the Blk & Gold. Do like these Street Triples, tried the RS some months back. There are just so many great bikes out there these days. Most unfair !!! Can never be satisfied with just one

Exactly - always room for one more eh?

Nice one MrF. I’d take the new bike simply because of the ABS, but as you rightly say in the title, it’s evolution (not revolution). My 675 Daytona brakes were awesome. Were they different on the Street?
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
Not sure - think they are the same. The Nissin's on my Street are excellent, just that the newer Brembos are even better!
@SteveInskip7 жыл бұрын
TheMissendenFlyer yes i have Brembos on the Morini. Quite incredible as you say; and it’s very nice to be able to do a direct comparison. Good work sir!

I test rode Street Tripple R 2013 a year ago and found that steering is quite stiff when turning almost resistant in comparison to my Cbr500r. After reading few threads it seems to be common and was reason for not upgrading. Is this Triumph specific standard setup on a headstock bearing tightness and do you find this on your bike? And Thank you for videos they are ACE!
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
No I have no such issue Mari, I've ridden several Street Triples and none of them feel any stiffer than any other bike I've ridden...???
@marimar88416 жыл бұрын
TheMissendenFlyer thank you for your reply. As soon as I’m back on my feet, I am now eager to give it another chance, the above issue not withstanding I very much loved the bike.

2012 every time for me. Owned a 2007 675 in roulette green with the round headlights for 4 years.... still prefer the original version, just so pure looking in my eyes. Sadly a big mistake letting her go... pound for pound the most fun and enjoyable machine I have had the pleasure to own.... WA08MMO where are you now?

Am I crazy or when he did the light test, did the 2018 headlight start with both headlights on for about 1 or 2 seconds but by the time he squatted, it dropped off? Maybe it's just the camera.

Thanks TMF, another enjoyable watch. Do you think it's time Triumph scrapped the ridiculous stock mirrors they add to the Street Triple and add bar ends like they do with the Street Cup? Bar ends look so much better in my opinion.
@Sabre1ewan7 жыл бұрын
The bar ends are definitely an option on the new ones, and I think they might come as standard on the RS or whatever the top spec version is. As does the quickshifter he mentions.
@colindeans59727 жыл бұрын
The naff mirrors made their appearance on the previous model, I took mine off the day I got my 'R'. It's almost like Triumph are using up the old bits before changing them for bar ends of a similiar cost.

Good comparison of a great bike, the conclusion I came to, buy a low mileage 3 year old and save a lot of money. Are the old and new Street Triples both made in England?
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they are yes....it's the Street Twin. Street Scrambler and T100 I think that come out of the factories overseas....but don't quote me on that!
@splodge577 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the Thailand bikes are fantastic, Street Cup being my cup of tea, but its good to know some Triumphs are still made in England.
@hermitmonk527 жыл бұрын
Hi TMF. I do hope you're right about component quality improvement. I certainly have not found that with my S Twin. Am thinking of returning to STR but it's the component quality question that puts me off. Why, for instance, is the chain lube interval now 200 miles and doesn't this effectively render Triumphs unsuitable for touring or long trips? And have the new LED light shells eliminated the lens steaming up problems? I have an uneasy feeling we will be discovering what corners Triumph has cut on this model a year or two down the road.
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
Well only time will tell - personally I’ve never had an issue with triumph build quality or reliability....
@hermitmonk527 жыл бұрын
No, my pre 2013 Triumphs were bullet proof. 2013 marked a decline, I think, with another lurch in 2016 with the latest Modern Classics. I cant understand why no review ever queries why the chain lubing interval suddenly became 200 miles, a third the distance it used to be. I'm guessing it's not because the latest chains are more robust!

TMF - Love the black/gold paint scheme on your '12 - reminds me of the 1999 limited edition 1200 Daytona (still lusting after one!). Was the quick shifter standard on your '12 or did you install it? That could be an excellent episode by itself. Wanting to install the 18T front sprocket (19T stock) and the Healtech Quick Shifter Kit on my Sprint but it appears more complex than anticipated due to the android phone requirement for programming the processor.

Nice comparison TMF. What’s your take on the Triumph badging on the tank? I’ve always prefered the original look with the uppercase lettering and sweeping underscore. The italics lower case always seemed a bit contrived and flacid in comparison. I was glad when Triumph went back to using one logo accross the board. I must say though, if was to choose...it would be your oh-12 hands down! The ‘18 is cool, but yours, it oozes cool and charm too. 👍
