Hi Andy good review enjoyed it. I recently took my bike in for a service, they loaned me the shotgun and i loved it. On return to the dealers to collect my bike i brought the shotgun there and then, I've done quite a few miles now and the brakes are more than adequate for this type of bike. It's only a bit heavy putting it in the garage but when riding the weight goes away. I love it, would recommend to anyone. I'm 73 years old and 5 foot 3, not a problem to ride and one of the best bikes to filter in traffic with. I have owned 66 bikes so far from 180 bhp to 20 bhp so have alot of experience. Keep the videos going. Dave from Essex.

I’m glad you said the same about the front brakes, not being bedded in yet being new. I see too many people, who are “experts” and used to 1200 cc bikes with dual disk brakes complain about the 650 Royals not having good brakes. My GT 650 took at least a few hundred miles before the brakes came alive and since then they are 100% fine and more than capable of stopping me as needed even when going well over the speed limit on daily street riding. Sure, you can buy better brakes, but for daily street riding and the occasional hooliganism these brakes are just fine if you know how to handle yourself.

Haven’t watched many of your vids for a while cos I’m not in the market to change but thought I’d watch this. Nice bike. May I say Andy you are a refreshing change from many KZbinrs that seem to only want to thrash the arse out of every bike they try and rate them only really in performance terms. Your real world ride in the wet at everyday speed is a lot more relevant. 👍

I test road the Shotgun 650 after I rode the Himalayan 450. I loved the Shotgun, it felt, as you say, a very relaxed ride. Plenty of power, but doesn’t push you to want to use all the power. I can’t imagine the long awaited Classic 650 will be much different to ride, perhaps a few cosmetic changes, instrument cluster differences and likely a different exhaust and respective tone. But all in all, I think this is a modern day Classic. A lot of bike for not a lot of money.
@johnDukemasterАй бұрын
Tested one of these in that green colour. The bike was fitted with S&S exhaust, modified from an Interceptor. Sounded so good! But my thoughts after the trip was the weight and the power. But if I would have tried it, not knowing anything about it, I would never have guessed 240kgs, never guessed 48bhp. My guess would be around the 200 kgs and 60-70 bhp. Absolutely a well made bike with really good handling. I don't know how much that exhaust did for the response, but the pickup was fast. Really fast! And so comfy! If there would be another bike in my garage, this would be it. Thank you mr Flyer!

Think you meant 648cc not 548 🙂 I love the Shotgun, I rode a Himalayan, interceptor and a shotgun and the shotgun was by far my fave! The demo bike i rode had aftermarket pipes and it sounded awesome! Would love one as a second bike! Hopefully one day! I never knew 47bhp could be so much fun! I think every biker should give the royal enfield range a try and ignore the spec sheets. One thing that never gets mentioned is the service costs. Absolute bargain service costs wise compared to other brands. My local dealer charges £240 for the big service and about £110 for the intermediate service

Personally i also like this type of bike, I had a Vulcan 650 year's ago but I never got on with this feet forward lark. Visiting my local Enfield/Kawasaki dealer in Preston i was shown an Eliminator in a rather fetching matt black finish. Its only a 500, infact a 451, but it's way lighter than the Enfield with a low seat, mid pegs and a sporting engine. The clutch is feather light, the suspension is good as are the brakes and tyres, i have to say for under 6 grand i was mightily impressed.

@trailingarm63Ай бұрын
Nice review. I'd call it a roadster - doesn't realky look anything like a cruiser. Because of the limited bhp I think the Meteor is the better option, you might as well just sit back, cruise, and enjoy the views. If you want a good roadster buy a 20-year-old Suzuki SV1000 (naked) for about £2,500. Fantastic bike, great engine, great handling.

I was able to demo one of these earlier this season. I was impressed at the value, at least. I'm confused as to why they would use an 18" front and 17" rear wheel, instead of using 17" front and rear. The steering was way heavier than it ought to have been and it was much less flickable than I'd have expected.

Thank you for this 1st ride review Mr Flyer, on a bike much like yourself, I wasn't that impressed by initially. But having seen one or two around it is starting to appeal to me. Definitely agree with the twin dials for the cockpit, that would really finish that front view off.

I'm not in the market for one of these, my next hoss is going to be an older Guzzi, but I did see one of these in the flesh the other day in the showroom. It's surprising good looking and definitely holds it's own in fit and finish compared to the trumpet's that were sitting nearby. I agree, they need to do something about re-dressing those cables behind the frame. I think manufacturers should offer a cockpit customisation on order option. Give the folks that like a TFT that option, give us old luddites the old skool clocks, and if you must, add the tripper above them in the middle, though I would like the delete option. The fact that the tripper is offset to the clock, looks way too asymmetric for my OCD 😁 At 240kgs wet, it needs twin discs and/ or linked braking. The factory tyres are probably good enough for most situations, you really don't have the power to lay down and break them free here, short of actually hitting something slippery on the road, and then it's a crapshoot no matter what rubber you have. I think this has to be my favourite RE yet and I think they will sell really well 👍

I'm totally with you when it comes to ergonomics. The feet forward pegs are uncomfortable to me and I just can't get used to them. The up and rear-ward pegs of sports bikes are what I have always used but at my age and physical condition today, they've become difficult to endure. This is why I love that the industry and riders have chosen 'standard' or naked bikes as 'the' category of the day. The mid mount pegs and up(ish) right riding position is where I fit best now. This bike seems to fit the bill near perfectly.

@sergentcolon1Ай бұрын
Morning Andy, great review as usual. I love the look of the Shotgun but the big downside for me is the weight. My Kawasaki Eliminator 500se (similar styling) has similar power and is only 174kg some 66kg lighter) which makes it a lot sportier and more nimble. Its also far easier to move around for me as I have to move the bike sideways on a dolly then pull it backwards out of my bike shed down a 1 foot wide ramp onto a gravel drive and then turn it round. At 62 with a duff knee and tennis elbow, 240kg it’s both hard work and too easy to drop.

The fat rear mudguard gives the bike the look of a scooching dog, and is unbalanced from the front end. 18:39 - See I prefer the looks of the Vulcan S personally, though it is ~£7.5k to get a colour worth having. The Rebel I blow very hot and cold over on looks, but it is worth saying the base model is £6399, a good saving over this, and for £6799 you can get the Special Edition which is a very handsome thing, with bronze wheels against black paint, a nice little cowl, and a brown diamond-stitch seat. If people are after a classic-looking cruiser there's not a huge amount of choice in this pricepoint, but in general I do think the Rebel is the biggest competition. If I was buying in this segment I believe I'd take the Rebel SE.

Good review Andy,, When I rode the Shotgun my main complaints about this bike are the weight and the colour options. The weight puts it in the same bracket as a large 900cc capacity andventure bike and the 120cc bonnevilles which have twice the power. It was a friends bike, compared to my early 1980's Honda at the time it was 4 or 5 times heavier to pull

240 kg!!? For a bare bones 650 - does it have lead ballast!? 🤔 Good review in poor conditions 👍
@TheMissendenFlyerАй бұрын
Thank you - in its defence, it doesn't feel that heavy.

Cos it's all metal! Plenty of light weight plastic bikes in the market, this just delivers on different ways.

My 2002 Kawasaki W650 weighs 195kg and it's all metal (even the handlebar switches) and it has a kickstarter! 😂
@jimmyjam8795Ай бұрын
@splodge5714 something doesn't add up then, because my "tiny" 2023 cb500f is mostly plastic and even it weighs 190kg. kawasaki probably just cheaper thinner metal.😂

I like the looks and the paint scheme. The weight is a bit off putting for me. At 240 kg it is the same as my old Honda cbf 1000. But overall it appears to be a good bike.

Yes it is a bit on the heavy side I agree....

Am waiting for the Classic 650 next year. Thinking about buying it and put a sidecar on it!
@sd3457Ай бұрын
My local dealer (in NZ) reckoned that we'd be seeing the scrambler version before the Classic.

I like the sound of both of those!

@@sd3457 classic 650 has been seen in testing and rumors that it will release in 2025. Regardless I’ll wait a year extra if needed but that’s the bike I want

They are ok engines but I can tell you from experience, avoid the 2021 and 2022 models unless they have had the gearbox fault repaired. Gears were not hardened correctly so the gearbox breaks, and if it’s a 2021 your very much at risk of being outside of warranty….should have been a recall. I like that they have coated the engine on this…my 2022 does not have a clear coated engine….frankly I wish the bike cost a grand more and had stuff like that and the headlight chrome done properly.
