Yup - my 2020 MT09 gave me this exact problem - constantly wanted to go fast on it, flick it about, overtake everything, the grip was sensational, it was all effortless…. But that isn’t all I want from motorcycling. And I wouldn’t mind watching my kids grow up.

The MT-09 has the triple which is such an unusual engine. Yamaha didn't ruin their triple like Triumph did with their Tiger models. Triumph ruined their own engine by making it more "lumpy" and rough and coarse by changing the crank journal offset to a "T-Plane" crank. Triple engines have a dramatically different feeling (I've never ridden one). But they seem to be more linear with a more flat torque curve, not as much screaming top end.

Great review as usual Andy, thanks. Well done on the seat height/inside leg measurement relationship. I'm also 5'8" but only 28.5" inseam, so many bikes are just too tall for comfort. The Missenden flyer is like a fantastic soup...fulfilling and just about the right number of croutons

Seems like you've gelled with the new Yamaha switchgear indicator buttons after initially finding them a bit odd on the XSR900GP; is that a fair assessment

Yes - took a bit of getting used too...not sure it was a problem that needed fixing mind you!

@@TheMissendenFlyer I've not tried them yet but I feel there was a lack of haptic feedback in general with indicator switches.

dont know if it was a 9 or 10 i saw last week but it pulled out swiftly onto a main road and rapidly went up the gears, but i was so impressed by the nice 'crackle' on the upshifts as much as its turn of pace did this MT09 do it?

I didn't notice it - but to be fair i was more focussed on hanging on!
