Thanks for sharing, it looks great! I just did my first shiplap project in a bathroom. I think it looks a little cleaner if you start at the bottom and nail through the tongue which is then hidden by the groove on the next board above. No exposed nail holes them to fill in!

Very cool video and great work! I am very impressed! I am going to hire a carpenter to do this for me. I have an important question-I am kind of paranoid about fire prevention-in other words, I constantly unplug my electric heater whenever I turn it off. So when I get one of these, can you unplug the fireplace whenever you don’t use it? It looks like you can pop the fireplace out easily…

We plan on doing something similar and already have the fireplace insert. However one thing to note is when running the electric fireplace it gets fairly warm on the top. We plan on putting cement board between the top of the fireplace insert and the wood to avoid any potential hazards! This looks great!

@@TheModernMann just wanted to say that my fireplace build came out beautifully thanks to you ( I wish I could send you pix) My outside frame was great and I assembled my inside frame first in place using very good clamps to see everything in place and then as you suggested reassembled it and attached it while laying it on the floor. Everything came out great re-attaching it to the main frame and then adding all the shiplap. The only difference was the fireplace I used, was an electric one that I inserted about 14 inches from the floor. After completing the job and as I said it came out very nice and complete, I do have a strange question, once the shiplap and trim are all nailed in and everything is painted, what happens if access is needed to the plug or if you need to change the TV or anything like that, isn't it kind of impossible since everything is closed off? In my case the people I built this for didn't have an outlet inside the area of this build but just outside the box on both sides, so we had a surge protector put inside the built box on the wall to power the TV & Fireplace and run the cord out of a small hole on the side and bottom of the shiplap, but either way, how can access be gained if needed without taking apart the wall? I thought about this afterwards when I was back home and it filled me with anxiety and nervousness, so I am wondering when my customers will call me asking this question, especially when they need to paint it and may want or need to remove the TV temporarily to do so. Sorry for the long message but was wondering if you thought about that as well. Thanks for your input, and if you would like to see pix of my build just let me know. Thanks again. D.

DOPE AF!! question though, how much heat does it actually give off?.. and for a ventless gas fireplace, would all the same material be ok?.. or would it catch fire?..

Ours puts out a good amount of heat! But for your gas question, I don’t want to give you a wrong answer that could lead to something catching fire or someone getting hurt so I’m just going to suggest asking the company who makes the gas fire place insert

I scanned to the comments and couldn't tell if this was asked already but I'm sure it has been.. but how do you reach any of the chords or the outlets? or put devices? I think this is probably the best build I've seen for a TV wall on KZbin but I'm just trying figure out how to incorporate cord access mainly..

Great question Jason! I didn’t show it in the video and I regret not showing it lol but on the side I made a “hidden door” using this hardware: www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Touch-Push-Latch-Black/dp/B07DNJNDGV/ref=asc_df_B07DNJNDGV/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309763090755&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=545103260008789654&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033389&hvtargid=pla-573575520691&psc=1 I just push in on the side and the door opens. It’s easy to hide because the Shiplap naturally has horizontal lines so you don’t even know it’s there. Hope that helps? The door is only 2 feet by 1 foot

Beautiful build! One issue I have with the tv/fireplace combo is that the tv is often too high for comfortable viewing. It's something I take note of because I'm a spine doctor. If you start getting headaches or a sore neck or just an uncomfortable feeling after a period of watching that tv, it's because the height of it is forcing you to arch your neck too much. The solution is to lower your tv. For my house, the center height of the tv's is less than 2 feet above eye level (while sitting). Unfortunately, that can mess with design plans when you have a tall fireplace below the tv.
@TheModernMann
@TheModernMann 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s what a few people have commented on however, we haven’t had any problems! We have a reclining couch so it works really nicely! We can recline to the perfect amount while we are watching a movie and our neck doesn’t have to arch! But I’m the future if I ever mount a tv in another house, that’s something I’ll consider!

It looks great. I was going to pay someone to do this for me but I’m sure I can do it myself. I just need the nailer. Question though, how would you add additional things to the outlet if you needed to add a firestick or cable receiver? Do you have to take part of it apart?
@TheModernMann
@TheModernMann 5 жыл бұрын
So I got lucky that there was an outlet right where my fireplace was going but some of you may not have an outlet there. If the outlet is on the inside of the fire place, which mine is, and I had to add something else that would be a permanent fixture, I would pull some of the side boards off, plug in a power strip and Velcro it somewhere inside and then you can plug 4-5 things up. Just be careful because the more items that you plug up. You are at risk of tripping the breaker

One more thing, I noticed you put the TV bracket on the back wall with what looks like some kind of extension so you could mount the TV on the outside of the shiplap. How did that work for you? And where are your cable wires, DVD player and wires etc...?
@TheModernMann
@TheModernMann 5 жыл бұрын
So I used what I call a “scissor mount” which allows you to pull the TV out about a foot from the wall and I did that so the TV would be flush with the shiplap. So behind the TV there is a 6inch by 12inch hole so the mount can move around smoothly and for any cables to be run. I have a smart TV so I don’t have a cable box or DVD player but if I did, they sell covers that look like outlet covers but it’s for cables to run through. I would mount one behind the cable box or DVD player horizontally along the top of the mantle so the box would cover it but then you could run wires from there to your TV from the hole where the mount is. I hope that makes some since? Lol but it has been working beautiful for me.

Awesome! I hope it helped! We love how our turned out but we were so nervous because there wasn’t a video on KZbin on how to do a Shiplap fire place so we just kinda winged it

Thank you for the inspiration, installed mine with your video. It really helped and stream lined the build. I got it done in a day and half. With first half day being prep work and getting the supplies!

Isaac, awesome! I’m glad my video helped! And isn’t it a super fun project? And not as difficult as it may seem?

Can you please give me the dimensions to the fireplace insert? I know you gave us the link but there are four different sizes & I'm unsure to which one I should order... Thank you 😊

Great video! Getting ready to start mine tomorrow. Question: I noticed you didn’t take out your baseboard. How did you do this without having to cut the shiplap or trim piece around it?
@TheModernMann
@TheModernMann 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I bought the same trim size for the bottom of the fire place so I was able to hide gaps left by the baseboard!

That looks beautiful. I am going to do this to my house too. One question, did you lay the tiles directly onto the boards? I noticed that that was not hardy board or anything like that. Thanks
@TheModernMann
@TheModernMann 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, late reply but yes, I used construction adhesive on the tiles to stick to the board behind it.
