Most of the residential areas in Greater Kuala Lumpur and other states in Malaysia have their own town within their own area which means you do not have to travel to city centre all the time.

My wife and I have lived in Mont Kiara Astana for 17 years. There are wide sidewalks in every direction - most walkable area in KL. We rarely decide to drive. It's a 7 min walk to supermarkets (4), fast food, shopping malls (4), post office, banks, excellent restaurants. Best restaurant in the area (Porto Romano) is literally across the street. 30 seconds from our back door is the 5 star MontKiara International School. 12 minute walk to another great 5 star more economical Garden International School. I have a smallish 13 year old Toyota SUV that is only driven for pleasure trips to Singapore, Thailand, Malacca, or the East Coast . In 2005 we were surrounded by only 3 or 4 mid-rise condos and a jungle full of monkeys and birds. Unfortunately(?) that has all changed.

Mont Kiara looks very nice but I don't think I would want to live there. As someone who doesn't drive, I prefer neighborhoods with good public transportation and/or walkable pedestrian streets. I realize Grab doesn't cost a lot but having to drive everywhere doesn't seem very pleasant to me.
