Small detail at the beginning but... Tommy Lee Jones character, Colonel Chester Phillips was seen gunned down by the Hydra Agent after the explosion. I had to pause and look at it carefully. The one that Peggy screamed "No" when she saw him get shot. So this was the reason why we didn't see his character in this series and the SSR was taken over by Flynn, another military officer. Not only did Steve not become the super soldier, but we also lost the commanding officer that actually did enjoy Peggy's support and was one of the original founding members of Shield with her and Howard Stark.

Agents of Shield “Hive” episodes really tied into the Red Skull’s plan to bring the Champion of Hydra to Earth, just different inter-dimensional pathways. Beautiful episode.

When you already knew Peggy Carter was a badass after watching Agent Carter (everyone watch), seeing her as Captain Carter just leveled up the love 1000% .

Joss Keaton and Ross Marquand absolutely nailed their roles here in this episode. I kinda miss Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving as Steve and the Red Skull. But listening to their voices in this premiere literally made me think I was listening to Steve and Red Skull for real here. They sounded so cool and great! So happy when I saw that a large majority of the original cast came back to voice their characters. That was Sam L. Jackson as Fury. That was Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Stanley Tucci voiced Dr. Erskine, and Toby Jones was Zola. They only had a max of one or two lines, but I love that they recorded their characters for another go in the MCU.

The animation reminds me of the old Max Fleischer's Superman animation from the 1940's, though obviously "What If...?" has greatly improved upon it. Considering that series came out in the WWII era, I wonder if it was a deliberate homage?

As Doctor Erskin said about the serum "Good becomes great" and Peggy was good before but as Captain Carter she became even better. The serum took all she knew as a trained soldier and magnified it!! This episode went nothing like I expected and I loved it; all the little differences and the big ones were so good. I love bad ass female leads and Captain Carter was it!!!! I also love how it was just something as simple as Peggy's choice of not going back to the booth that created this story, confirming what the TVA said that even getting to work late causes nexus events and branch timelines. The multiverse is here and I am in it for the long haul

Pacing was good and the action was dope! Love how she didn't remain skinny - built like an Amazon / Pro Cross-Fit Athlete. Tentacle monster was likely the monster at the start of GoTG 2 or Shuma-Gorath (classic Dr Strange villain). Josh Keaton did a good job as a Chris Evans sound-alike.

Animation usually has a weak point...hard to make you feel the weight of everithing. But here you can feel C.Carter taking a prep position in order to kick a body. You feel the weight of the motion...SPOT ON! Everithing look like an oil painting come to life.

7:55 So, here's a bit of a fun historical fact. What is great about this is that there is an actual historical precedent for needing small soldiers. Early era Soviet tanks like the T-55 had really small crew compartments. Thus drivers couldn't be over something like 5'6. Over the course of history, there are quite a few vehicles that cannot fit anyone over certain heights. Without the more modern Tony Stark miniaturization, having a small guy like Steve allows for a smaller "crew compartment" and thus keeps the overall size/weight down for the Hydra Stomper suit.

So damn happy that not only do we finally have a What If? TV series but that the very first episode is of Captain Carter!!!! When The First Avenger came out I loved Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter so much that I always wondered what if she had gotten the serum and became the world’s first superhero. And I’m so happy we got this. I hope next season we see an alternate Avengers with her as it’s leader, plus the sword fits so perfectly with the shield, like the knight that she is.

I don't know why, but as soon as Jeffrey Wright started narrating I had the sudden urge to hear him narrate a nature documentary 😆. I really think he would bring so much more drama and action to ine just with his narration. If he already has, could someone reply with a link to it? Thank you! Lol I agree this was an awesome first episode! I can't wait to see T'Challa as Star Lord. I think/hope that is the next episode. And I can't wait for the Dr. Strange episode. The more I think about it though, I think his episode may be last and tie things back to Loki and/or Dr. Strange 2. I've seen some screenshots that possibly confirm that. Either way I can't wait!

When I was a kid, it wasn't the tesseract. It was the Cosmic Cube, and it was more of a wish fulfillment device. For instance, while struggling over the cube with an all-powerful Red Skull, Captain America was wishing that Bucky was alive, and Bucky popped back into being. There was no Winter Soldier. No infinity stones in the original Captain America story. That's all post 90s.

The action animation in this show was soooo good. The tuck and role in the air and the back lighting in the truck scene just looked like something out of live action. That said your right that Peggy Carter was the easiest to pull from because she became a shield agent and a hero in her own right. This just jacks her up to Amazon status and puts a shield in her hand the rest was the same Peggy Carter. Can't wait to see where this takes us.

I felt it was ok. I love seeing Peggy in action!! But I’d be lying if I said I loved it. I’ll definitely keep watching. I dug the comics, but I just haven’t been very excited for it, and generally just felt it was avg. But happy others are loving it. I may grow to myself as it goes on.

You guys should watch agents of shield that "monster " is the true form of hydra it's why they have an "octopus 🐙"lol as their logo . They covered a version of it on the show was actually very good 👌.I honestly Fucking loved this first episode of "what if " I'd give it a 9.5 /10 .some people are complaining about the pacing but I love the fast moving nature of it,it covers alot of key moments from the original movies and gives it it's own twist ,really refreshing .and the animation style is top notch if marvel continue like this DC's animation division better watch out aha !!

As an animator, with a speciality in fight animations, these fight scenes looked CLEAN ! Blocking and choreography as surgically precise like these are possible only in animation, and I loved every single one of them (especially the oners). Maybe a little more camera shake during impact would have made it even more brutal, and since we're in animation here, I wish they could have made some little callbacks to gems like the Marvel vs Capcom games, where Cap got some awesome animations (like his shield smears), but it was already fantastic as is. Now, as fun and fantastic it looked (and sounded, with most of the original actors returning), everything just breezed through all the checkpoints and we don't have much time to let the characters (and the story) breathe. It does make the First Avenger look that much better, though. I hope the pacing is gonna be a bit better with the next coming ones, but I don't have much hope for it. Although the thing with this episode is that it's a very faithful remake to Captain America the First Avenger, only gender swapped. Other than that, they didn't venture too far off from the original script. I guess the more we advance in the series, the more different and unexpected it's gonna get, so I'm hopeful for the twists. Looking forward to the next episodes !
