You know what makes me angry about this? the HDMI port only exists here because of lack of proper integration of the full USB-C spec, because USB-C *is a video port* It's more so the USB-C standard used on phones is incapable of acting in this manner, mostly down to software and hardware. nothing is stopping that single wire from charging, broadcasting video, receiving video and anything else you need that cable to do.

Finally, someone did this review of the Xperia Pro! I was waiting for this since the release of the Sony Xperia 1 II. This is honestly more exciting for me than the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Samsungʼs Galaxy S21 Ultra-and I am a huge Samsung fan myself. LOL I love how Sony considered overall functionality for most of todayʼs tech. users with this phone. It will find great use if utilized right especially with vloggers. Thank you for doing this, man! I loved the whole review you did here as it was honest and clear about the pros and cons. It is worth its price, to be honest with you. Watching a Mr. Mobile video is like using an iPhone. Everything just fits, is seamless and works. There are little touches that make all the difference, and it's as beautiful to look at as it is to consume. For example, the little marker in the corner stating that the sponsor message is playing is such a nice touch. And hell, I appreciate the videos so much I'll gladly watch the sponsor message even as a youtube premium member. Because any small giveback that costs me nothing but 30 seconds is something I'll happily give to someone who's put the care and thought into the videos in this manner. And I LOVE how the subject of the video is never the sponsor. So we know we can TRUST Michael's content. Unlike some other channels that I will not mention......

Man, kudos to this review for keeping it super honest and I totally agree. The problem with that price range really puts it at odds with other dedicated pro equipments like the atomos monitors which usually costs less than half of the phone with more display features like peaking, false color, and recording externally with higher bitrate & better codecs. None of which the Xperia does. And the problem with HDMI ports being finicky is an age old tale with the tech tbh, since HDMI in whatever form (normal, mini, or micro) doesn’t have a securing mechanism unlike SDI ports. Which is why many filmmakers support the shift in mirrorless cameras like Panasonic’s pro video camera, the S1H. The way I see it, the pricing’s really far from the reach of your average content creator to make the whole investment to the Sony system feasible. It feels like a case of either jumping in without proper outreach to potential demographics like content creators, streamers, and their platforms, or doing so when the technology infrastructure is not there yet. That being said, I recall Sony striking an exclusive deal with The Associated Press to have their journalist exclusively use the Sony Alpha mirrorless line for both stills and motion pictures. In that sense, maybe that’s the target market Sony is aiming for, especially when launching the Xperia together with the flagship A1 which is Sony’s cream of the crop, jack of all trades mirrorless line that supposedly can do it all now
@SonyEnthusiast4 жыл бұрын

I get it, this is a phone that justifies it's price by it's features. I'm pretty sure there are people out there that actually will benefit from these features in their workflow and that's why they call it "Pro". It's just not targeted for mainstream consumers, and I'm pretty sure that's Sony's intention. Compare it with Sony's PVM's or mastering monitors. These things run in the $30k+ territory for just a 25-ish inch monitor. No one is gonna buy that unless they need it for their professional workflow. I bet many people still won't get it logic wise, but still nice to see a review from MrMobile on this obscure little piece of tech! :)
@Punisher2all4 жыл бұрын
The problem is that companies like Samsung and Apple have convinced us the "Pro" just means more mega pixels or more memory or an additional camera. This is what a real professional phone looks like. It doesn't have a true competitor. And compared to a RED Camera display which costs close to $3k, this xperia is reasonably priced believe it or not.

A built in HDMI in is amazing, unfortunately (as you say) it is too pricey and limited. The idea is great tho, imagine using this as a mobile capture card or as a reliable livestream camera, but it just doesnt seem to be working all that well. Also, it is not something i'd call professional. Where's the screw mount on the side, so I don't need to use spring-loaded clamps? Where is the removeable back cover, so I can directly swap batteries during a long working day in the field? And (I may have missed it) but good sd, maybe even dual sd support would be fantastic in a professionally camera oriented phone. Thanks for the video, it was a great review as always!

Good points! I think those asks (plus my own wish for a brighter, lower-res display) just weren't possible given Sony's apparent decision to use the Xperia 1ii as a basis for the Pro. Some things are too major to be added without a ground-up redesign (same for Snap 865). As for SD: yeah, there's MicroSD up to 1TB alongside the 512GB of internal, so it's well equipped from a storage perspective.
@MichelPostma4 жыл бұрын
@@TheMrMobile 1,5 TB total is great to work with, so that is good to hear! I really like the concept and I hope it will do well enough so that we see a next generation. That may either be designed from the ground up or, just like the foldables, be cheaper in this new segment.

Something really weird I feel it's happening, some companies are not considering losing today to win tomorrow, it's not like sony can spare some money in lowering the prices of some products in order to catch the attention big the public and once the tech is adopted and refined, charge the right amount. I was able to plug an HDMI capture device directly to my Sony A7SIII and to my Samsung S20+ with USB-S. It actually streams fine. It's just a little more clunky because it uses 2 cables and a small box.

With the reviews and cons about it, I'm sure it isn't hard for Sony to roll out an update for the Zebra and Focus peaking in the future. And since this is a new software/phone it is bound to have inconsistencies software side. Hopefully they can stabilise it within a month or 3. 4k might sound outrageous for the average stranger but doesn't if it is targeting big companies that streams live at 4k. Since 5G's improvement and rollout is inevitable, it won't be a problem in the future. It is a very niche product for sure.

They took out the Qi wireless charging when the Xperia 1 II had it? I'm actually enjoying using the wireless charging from time to time and it has saved me on some occasions when a restaurant has a Qi Charger for guests. Side note I've had the Nokia Fatboy since 2014 and it Qi charges perfectly fine, so I'm not a new consumer that demand Wireless Charging, I'm a hay-day Sony consumer that kinda expects and doesn't understand why they took it out and then re-establishes it; but in this case, takes it away AGAIN. I really like the coating of the Xperia Pro, it looks so nice with that camera magnesium blend look, I want to touch it.

I've been telling, asking this idea (not anymore) to the programmers, coders, nerds “of using [Second hand] smartphone as wired monitor thru USB cable for DSLRs, for beginners”. My idea popped when i started using my OnePlus One as monitor for my DSLR & get irritated when it lagged. So I thought of why not get a (second hand) phone that can be bought anywhere & use it as wired monitor. I figured it might work since the HDMI & USB are digitals (i assume this statement is correct).
