Yeah, that's a possibility ... but I feel it's more likely Apple will relocate the button (or perhaps enlarge it). There's a lot of potential to be explored in a side-mounted touch control. First things first, you are one of the handful reviewers out there that provides the source of wallpapers used on the review! Thanks for that. I did an experiment a couple of years ago and left my iPhone 12 mini (awesome device/size, crappy battery) for a Galaxy Z Flip 4. I loved it from the first moment! The gigantic inner screen, the build quality (not of the screen) and the form factor made me use my phone even less and enjoy life. But there were issues... aside from the iOS vs Android ecosystem, the battery was just adequate when it was new and after about 2 years i had less battery even than the 12 mini (at the same age). And worse, the inner screen is full of nicks just by my fingers (the screen protector peeled off after 8 months and i can' find anyone that cant replace it here in Cyprus), and i am very very cautious about my devices in general. Long story short, i decided to switch back to a slab and the best one i could have picked the last May was the 15 Pro Max. Sure is a big phone but it solved all of my issues except the actual size: big battery, iOS, and a very durable screen (compared to any foldable)... As for the 60hz thing, i really doesn't mind. My wife has the iPhone 15 and i don't feel that the experience is inferior when i am using it. Its a matter of taste i suppose.

It's a little funny that you mention the desire to switch to Android at the end. I've been an Android user since the inception of the Xperia phones, but the arrival of the 16 made me switch to iOS. There's something about how well integrated the ecosystem is into everything out there that has its own little appeal. It's not even so much about the hardware, but the experience. Especially when traveling a lot. Apple Pay is more universally accepted than anything else, Apps have features on iOS that are simply missing on Android or heavily gimped in some ways, and overall it just seems like that when smartphone integration comes to mind with companies, iOS gets there first. It's mainly this that has finally tempted me enough to switch, and while I miss certain aspects of Android (namely on the multitasking front), I can't deny that my iPhone feels a lot more "usable" in day-to--day life.

That being said, the 16 series is not much different from the 15 series except for AI and the RAM (which I am sure, helps). I liked your discussion for the 60hz. I hear a lot of reviewers say it doesn’t matter cuz the average person won’t notice, and the other side being reviewers arguing how it’s disgraceful to even provide 60hz anymore. You on the other hand acknowledge that you yourself can’t really tell, but know others do. And you know what? I may fine it hard to imagine being in that perspective, but I know very well as a musician that there are people who are incapable of telling apart two very distinct tones. It’s just a thing that happens. With that said, I really appreciate your take. I am one of the many who can tell. I use high refresh rate panels on the daily. My iPhones and iPads are the only devices I have that are still using 60hz, and it’s bothersome but I tolerate it. Even so, apple has done a great job at making 60hz feel smooth as hell so it’s not the most bothersome thing for me during daily use unless I’m actively on my MacBook or Desktop.

Hey Phil is there 1:26 , remembering my days as an Ambassador on Mobile Nations, long time no see Phil, great review, I have heard many wrong things about this iteration of iphones (fixable with future software updates apparently), but if you are in the ecosystem you for sure will remain on it, maybe not updating to this version if not needed ... Well I am talking too much, nice video as always Captain

The way KZbinrs just say it is what it is when it comes to 60hz on base iPhones but I am sure if an android at that price drops a 60hz phone it would be international headlines

once they put a 120hz screen on the regular iphone there will be no need for me to even think of getting the Pro variant

Amazing video per usual but how did I just find out I can swipe the icons on Gmail to go in-between inboxes?? Mind blown 🤯 thank you!

Tbh I always wait for your review of new phones to decide if I should upgrade from my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Tbh I’m still happy with it.

Are you doing one on the Pixel 9pro?

I *really* prefer to avoid reviewing non-foldables where I can (Apple only offers slabs, so I had no choice here), but maybe. Ahead of it in line, though, are that ASUS folding monitor; Pixel Watch 3; Honor Magic foldables ... and some other stuff. Maybe in an ecosystem video!

First-Class review Mr.M. Still want a foldable....but in an iOS dominated home....this (or the 16 Plus) will be the one to choose.

While the upgraded camera and battery life are impressive, it honestly feels more like an incremental update...

They're weirdly tough to capture on video! 😄 Will drop a kitty-health update on the Captain2Phones Instagram once formerly-sick Steampot clears her observation phase.

After taxes and everything else the base iPhone 16 costs about $1800 over here in Turkey, so yeah :3

Been wanting Apple to do a galaxy fold like phone for ages. I appreciate apples approach to waiting until they think they can do it properly and a little less “cutting edge”, but I do wish they’d do it much sooner rather than later.

I personally don't think a high refresh rate is a deal breaker *per se* . But its just that in 2024 not having it is a significant compromise. And thats fine, but whats not fine is a significant compromise in phone this expensive

Razor phone was 5 years ago? Brother that phone released 2017 or 7 years ago. 7.

Bah, you're right. For a second I thought I mixed up Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2 ... but even the latter was six years ago. Time is wild.

Dude I can’t believe everyone is so gaga for a “shutter button” when we’ve been able to photograph in landscape and use the volume up button as a snapper since the iPhone 5.

I actually use 60hz on my 120hz phone because it's either 1080@120 or 1440@60. But the difference is night and day, although once you get used to 60 it's fine.

Like I have said for all these videos, if you've never had an iPhone or an older model then go for it. But if you have the 14 or 15 then save some money unless you have to have the latest and greatest.

9:59 I'm confused why Apple hasn't enabled Always-On Display (AOD) on all iPhone OLED models. It's interesting that even Android devices like the HONOR X6b, which has an LCD screen, feature AOD.
@goff2563 ай бұрын
Because Apple tied AOD to the ability to ramp down the display’s refresh rate. The ProMotion display isn’t just about going up to 120hz.
@NiceEyeballs3 ай бұрын
I think they are sticking to 60Hz is because of the battery life. I don't see any other reason.
