[APPLE IPHONE 16 REVIEW]
Seventeen years after its 2G debut, the iPhone has become “the default phone” for the anecdotal average American - and this year, Apple has brought enough Pro features to the base model that the cheaper iPhone is an even better buy for most folks. But this is the first time I've ever needed to run a Beta to fully experience what most people will encounter when they buy an iPhone - and it's also the first time my mentions have been crowded with commenters asking what it's like to switch to Android. Join me for the MrMobile iPhone 16 Review!
[ABOUT MRMOBILE'S iPHONE 16 REVIEW]
MrMobile's iPhone 16 Review was produced following three weeks with an iPhone 16 review sample provided by Apple, which also furnished MrMobile with Plus, Pro and Pro Max samples, alongside a customized AirPods 4 set. Pre-production hardware running Beta software (iOS 18 Beta 3, 4 and 5).
MrMobile does not offer manufacturers the opportunity to preview, edit or approve content before publication. Neither Apple nor any other manufacturer provided compensation in exchange for this coverage.
Michael Fisher is co-founder of Clicks Technology, the sponsor of this video, which paid a fee to Future PLC (the publisher of MrMobile) for its promotion.
Hobolite sent Michael Fisher free samples of its Creator Kit products, which are briefly featured in this video.

A German tech KZbinr I watch said, that camera control might disappear in a few years like the touch bar did on the Macbook. And honeslty? I believe him. It's a nice to have but the placement sucks and the control just doesn't feel right. If anything I use it to just launch the camera and then switch immediately to onscreen controls again on my 16.
@TheMrMobile
@TheMrMobile 7 сағат бұрын
Yeah, that's a possibility ... but I feel it's more likely Apple will relocate the button (or perhaps enlarge it). There's a lot of potential to be explored in a side-mounted touch control. It was fun to see HTC and Google try pressure-based solutions, but I think touch strips are possibly more likely to succeed. (Like I say in the video though, just give me half-press-to-focus 😄)

@@Mike-wp1mo Most people also wouldn't notice LCD displays or sub 1080p screens. Should they skimp on those? Most people work near a charger so let's cut the battery capacity by 25%! Most people use cases. Let's just use plastic instead of stainless steel or aluminum. See how silly this is? At some point you'd argue some things should be a given dependent on the rest of the market.

Apples and oranges. Everyone interacts with their screen any time you use a phone, but I don’t know a single person who still transfers data from their phone over USB. People buy an iPhone because it works well and they know what they’re getting. A majority of consumers don’t have any concept of data transfer speeds, and if they have iCloud backup then 128gb is plenty.

I think they are sticking to 60Hz is because of the battery life. I don't see any other reason.

I’ve never used android. I’ve always been an iPhone user since the iPhone 5 but I’m one of those who’s been thinking about picking up a Google pixel nine just to dip my toes in the water.

And I'm the opposite...I went from Blackberry in 2007 to Android in 2010 (mostly in the Samsung ecosystem but I just upgraded to Pixel 9 Pro) and got an iPhone 16 to dip my toe into iOS (second line primarily for work calls/texts). Still digging into the nuances, which should ramp up after 18.1 is out to the masses.

It's a little funny that you mention the desire to switch to Android at the end. I've been an Android user since the inception of the Xperia phones, but the arrival of the 16 made me switch to iOS. There's something about how well integrated the ecosystem is into everything out there that has its own little appeal. It's not even so much about the hardware, but the experience. Especially when traveling a lot. Apple Pay is more universally accepted than anything else, Apps have features on iOS that are simply missing on Android or heavily gimped in some ways, and overall it just seems like that when smartphone integration comes to mind with companies, iOS gets there first. It's mainly this that has finally tempted me enough to switch, and while I miss certain aspects of Android (namely on the multitasking front), I can't deny that my iPhone feels a lot more "usable" in day-to--day life.

Great review! When you say you can't see the difference between 60 and 120, you mean you literally cannot tell the difference between them? Or is it just subtle? I'm surprised given all the high refresh rate screens you look at that the 60hz doesn't jump out at you. Everytime I use my wifes iPhone 15 I'm like whoa this slow

I think your final point is the same reasoning for why Apple has opened up customization so much on its newest software versions. The Home Screen, Lock Screen, Dynamic Island and control center are much more fun, however, they are so prone to bugs it feels like they’re still a couple of beta updates away from completion. Hopefully next year will be an iOS 13 style bug fixes and optimization update

@Noname-km3zx
@Noname-km3zx 9 сағат бұрын
😂 if apple chose 60hz, they would not need to change anything, and they would save money, 90 hz would cost in practice the same as implementing a 120hz. That is why 90 hz is not a thing.
@michaelcorcoran8768
@michaelcorcoran8768 9 сағат бұрын
@@Noname-km3zxThe cost is negligible. The panels they're buying already have the capacity to use 120 so the lock is entirely software. It wouldn't cost Apple anything to let these things refresh at 90 HZ at least that's my understanding based on the sourcing of these displays. they are buying Samsung displays in bulk that support 120 so 90 be a software tweak for them. The only reason they do it is to create an incentive to upgrade to the pro model.

Mr. Mobile is obviously a folding phone champion, so his opinion is skewed, but for me he is absolutely right. I want a folding phone so badly but I’m so entrenched in the Apple ecosystem it makes the thought of migrating to Android feel overwhelming. Apple, if your watching, make a folding iPhone a la the Galaxy Fold design…PLEASE!

I went to the store to try the 16 and I was able to plainly see how slow the screen appeared. On Android, I felt like the 60hz phones were better and I at least I had the ability to tinker with the animation speeds and transitions. I think we have reached a point where some average consumers can see the difference. That being said, the 16 series is not much different from the 15 series except for AI and the RAM (which I am sure, helps). I tried the camera button and I hope it gets better with a software update because it felt...finicky. The cameras are what we expect, so is the update guarantee. It is a boring update. However, Apple isn't the only company with this issue. Aside from foldables, phones have become stagnant

Surprised how few people are talking about the AOD difference. Shopping for a new iPhone this year, and AOD is the single reason I'm opting for the Pro. The 5x and 120Hz are nice but I could take it or leave it. AOD on the other hand? Truly spoiled for me, turning an iPhone off and not seeing my wallpaper/notifications just feels like a waste of space.

I think people forget that iPhones do tend to have a higher touch sampling rate so the 60hz looks smoother than 60hz on a budget android device. With that being said I hope they update to 90 next year.
