I believe the 5 ATM thing is really a "traditional watch" marketing thing. That means 5 atmospheres of STATIC pressure or 10m/33ft (good for superficial swimming in the most extreme case). I think that it is the same as the IP ratings normally seen in some devices, like IPX7.

@shibiskumar13068 жыл бұрын
One thing that holds me from buying/recommending a smartwatch is the lack of ease of the interface. tiny screens and touch being the only way to do almost 90% of stuff makes the experience more of gestures and a cumbersome experience. the only good thing about these are notifications.I feel that smartwatches need a different interface for interaction. loved the video though, a perfect review. waiting for the next one.
@TheMrMobile8 жыл бұрын
There's definitely an interface problem facing most smartwatches today. In fact there's a line I had to cut from this video to save time, wherein I lamented that Casio didn't code a special "wet screen" app that lets you use the buttons to navigate the interface instead of the touch screen. But I consider that more an Android Wear limitation than a Casio failing, so I dropped it.

$499 for a watch that won't stand the test of time or will quickly become dated within a couple years of tech advances? For $499 you can get a solid mechanical watch that will always function as intended and outlive any smart watch.
@SpiderMan-ni8ek7 жыл бұрын
Casio has always been using "outdated" tech. You numbskull. They said calculator watches wouldn't stand the test of time too. Now who's laughing? Casio is still going strong. Plus. This watch functions as a "normal" digital watch when it's low on battery.
@mightza37817 жыл бұрын
The mechanical watch industry was almost killed off during the "Quartz Crisis" when cheaper, more reliable and more accurate quartz watches came onto the market. They survived by marketing themselves as luxury goods and stopped trying to pretend they were making the best time keepers. Don't pretend that the mechanical watch is the best tool for keeping time, since they're not. Like horse riding and calligraphy, a small subset of the population will keep a tradition alive regardless of practicality.
@Sergei__v7 жыл бұрын
Apatthetic Man a good mechanical watch now can serve as a piece of jewelry for men - a status symbol. Smart watches have a hard time doing that as they age rapidly and belong in the utility category
@Envinite6 жыл бұрын
$499 mechanical watch outlive any smart watch? Yea right. Mechanical was only good for its looks and bragging right. A mechanical watch lacks of accuracy compared to digital and requires more maintenance as it's way less durable due to more components compared to digital ones. Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy smartwatch and only buy mechanical watch. But saying that it will outlive smart watches, is a bunch of customer pride bullshit. Besides, mechanical watches at that price point basically use an 'outdated' tech for its own category.
@NeoPortaPotty6 жыл бұрын
Envinite I think he means outlive any individual smartwatch not smart watches as a technology smart watches get outdated easily so its not like you'll want to use one for more then a few years before you want or need to upgrade whereas a properly maintened mechanical watch can last forever I have a few 100+ year old pocket watches I've inherited that outside of needing a good cleaning still work well.

This and the Gear S2 are the only two watches which have come close to being "Smart". Well done casio!
@BloodAsp8 жыл бұрын
The S2 has a depressing lack of applications. Upon my review so far, the S2's only claim to fame is the phone capability. If you want a exercise tracker, get a fitbit. If you want a computer watch, get the gear S1, if you want a wrist phone, get this. Stupid proprietary operating system. The sad thing is, it has the potential to be the ultimate combination of the three, but they had to use this funky OS that I guess no one is porting apps to. :/
@TheDark-Knut8 жыл бұрын
heyou Cmon.. i think most of the usual one's are present which you expect from a smartwatch. Although i do feel samsung should launch an android variant also. I do miss some of the google apps!

Ah, Casio! The brand I grew up with, synonymous to me with packaged efficiency and utility. I even wear a $20 Illuminator series watch right now. Frankly, if I had the money, I'd be tempted to buy one. It definitely breaks the norm of the smart watches I've seen, and the geek in me has always wanted a watch with an altimeter (let alone the virtual suite of sensors available). I've owned a very cheap smart watch, so I understand that some utility and connectedness is expected from what you wear, but I'm also not a user of heart rate sensors at all (and since I carry my phone with me often, I can live with a watch not having a GPS sensor). Hopefully, the watch will come down somewhat in price in the future, if I get the opportunity to purchase one. All the same, it's a great-looking watch to me, and a more solid reason to consider buying one in the future.
@TheMrMobile8 жыл бұрын
Solid feedback! Also a note on the altimeter: it's really fun to use during air travel. When the cabin pressure drops to 6000 ft the graph plummets. It's awesome.
@ryuhaneda8 жыл бұрын
Ok, now I really want one of those. :) ...makes me wonder: will Casio ever brand/produce another smartphone like the old Verizon Commando series (of years and years ago)? Sounds like a potential pairing... to build a new smartphone, and then throw in some built-in software that works real well with the smart watch sensors. (I don't know if that would qualify as bloatware, though, and all the same, I'm glad they poured their energy into a watch instead.) I'm already a fan of it (and ignoring the yellow and red flags that say "wait for version 2.0!!!"). There is a sizeable benefit to having a watch rated to the levels of durability it has. Not that I'd just be tossing the thing around, but buying that would almost make me want to go camping more. Art imitating life? More like art beckoning me to go live life. :) Btw, keep up the phenomenal job. Your videos have been great, and your presentation is absolutely excellent. The ballad of Michael Fisher continues... indeed.

5 bar or 50m water resist is does not mean you can dive 50m down with it. its a static pressure test. when you actively move around the pressure is much higher. at 5 bar its fine in shallow water and splashes/shower. but for anything under water for more than a few minutes and more than half a meter atleast 10bar/100m wr. which is fine for surface swimming and a pool. if you want to dive go dont go under 20bar/200m wr.
